Really appreciate you for taking the time to record and post videos like this. It's an immense help to folks like me when you take the time to go through it slowly so I can get the fingering correct. It's not quite as intimidating when somebody walks you through these licks. Thank you!
This is the best Jimmy Page video I've seen. I would like to add that another is when Page double picks the b string bend instead of picking and bending the g string in the Chuck Berry smear. Page does this on the album version of Dazed and Confused.
I've been looking all over for lick 12! I heard it in a live version of how many more times, and ever since then I've been wondering how to play it, I didn't realize it was so simple.
This is great! And another subscriber made an excellent point that there's no need for talking all the way through it. Anyone that is good enough to learn what you're showing doesn't need to have it explained. Just watching is enough. Very well done!
Bro... take it from an avid guitarist who has watched MANY youtube vids & tutorials... you dont need all the fancy lighting, guest speakers, pointless rambling, corny jokes and who dont teach well, but rather rush through the tuts....i love your tuts/vids brother. straight to the point, no bs. you seem to know what youre doin. AND you play the licks normal speed, slow speed, super slow speed (for learning) and then cap it off at the end with another nornal speed. You got my thumbs up & subscription my good man! 🤘🏼
flwns I'd love to cover that one, but honestly it would probably take me a year to learn the whole thing LOL. It has crossed my mind though. Thanks for watching!
That really fast descending type lick he does in dazed & confused (tsrts) just before lick 12 in this is fucking me over at the moment. Trying to figure out how and what he plays in it.
For a long time I've wanted to know these licks that Page used quite often when playing live. Thanks! I be happy with you doing dazed and confused from tsrts just up to when they start playing the San Francisco part :-)
Hah, I'm a long way off from playing something like that. I'm not even sure I have the endurance to play that right now, let alone the skill. But maybe one day!
I love this tutorial. I know many more experienced guitarists may not need this but I would love if you put up what key you are playing in. Some of the licks I can see, some are not as clear. Great job and many thanks!
Thanks! I don't remember what my amp settings were as it's been a while, pretty sure I had a bit of reverb, all volume and tone knobs at max on both the amp and guitar, with certain licks being played on the bridge pickup, while others being played in the middle position. As far as distortion goes, I use a Fender Champion 20, and I'm pretty sure I had it set somewhere between Tweed and Blackface at 8-10 gain, and it was played on a 2006 Gibson Les Paul Standard.
How much distortion have you got on your amp here? It doesn't like too much - which is perfect, a lot of people turn it up way too high when playing Jimmy's stuff
Please do another one of these, this is the only video that goes over some of the more obscure live licks he would do. Everyone always just plays the same couple licks that’s on the recorss
great, thanks! great sound coming from the pickup selection, good amount of gain, great playing of course and well demonstrated. Oh and georgeous binding, Gibsons look ten times better with the white lines around them
When you think JPP, think Mixo. But he also uses other cool scales too. There is a reason why at the end of Dazed & Confused live in Seattle 3-21-75 Robert says "Master Guitarist 🎸 Jimmy Page". To me he has been the greatest guitar teacher. Nice video. If I had the patience to teach what I learned and accomplished, I would. But I don't, so I won't. Good to see someone can pass the knowledge on. LedHed Steven 🎸 🎹 🎸
Best Page Lesson vid I've seen! Excellent job. One question, though. On that first lick, on your right hand, are you using your fingers for the third and forth note? (the e and the d pull off) That's the only way I can get it to sound right. Any response would be much appreciated. Again, superb job. More of the like would be welcome! (the licks in houses of the holy (song) come to mind.)
Sorry for being a year late, haven't been active on YT in a while, but I'll answer anyway. I'm assuming you're asking if I'm finger/hybrid picking? If so, then no, just simple hammer ons and pull offs. Page usually picks every note but I don't do it that way often because I can get pretty sloppy if I'm not bringing my A-game.
Yes, if you want to play nice clean licks using distortion, better learn how to mute unwanted strings... that are tons of lessons on TH-cam about this technique
can you do a video about lick 11. I heard something like it on the bbc heartbreaker solo but I just cant figure it out. But it sounds very similar to it
hey great video :) i think it would have been helpful to give the key to some of those licks.. i know most of them but still... just a little constructive critisism ;)
These licks are great. There is a bunch of JP stuff on YT, but this is the most comprehensive pile of licks. It would be really helpful if you gave a small explanation ie. what key? A root - E root blues scale, minor etc. This would add huge value to future lick stuff
I agree, but unfortunately I don't do it because I don't want to accidentally give the wrong information. I'm entirely self taught and learn everything by ear, so I don't usually know the names of notes, chords, or what key some licks are in. I just know how they sound, and how to play them (at least my own interpretation of them). I know there's more information I could give here, but it would be disingenuous and unhelpful to give information that I can't guarantee is correct. Hope that makes sense.
I am coming back to this video every now and then because it's so cool to see all these licks ! The N°12 is my favourite, in this video : th-cam.com/video/PAPTiH75fqY/w-d-xo.htmlm43s you can hear Jimmy Page playing it, starting like you do, but then (I guess ?) he's doing the same lick on the 3rd and 5th fret of the G and D string before going back and doing the rest of the lick, am I right ?
A phrasing of a few notes, typically scale or chord based that just sound good. Frequently, they can be played around on the fretboard (different positions), albeit with different fingerings.
Tritnew1 Alt Yeah, until 1972 Jimmy used the stock pickups, which are what Iommi used on his LP. If we are talking Iommi's SG, Page's post 72 pickups are one T-top (found on SGs and LPs from that era alike) and a Stock Seth Lover Neck. With a setup like his current #1 (PAF reissue in the neck, Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta Humbucker Bridge) you should be able to play just about anything created from 1957-1984 pretty easily.
Great job. No pointless talking just a great selection of licks. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the feedback!
ss33094 yes honestly, straight to the point, love it! Thank you!
The first lick we've been calling "wanta-diddle-uh" since the 70s. XD
ShaggyDawg should I mention it’s “wanta-diddle-uh” minor?
Its funny how cant read that without hearing that lick in your head xD
Perfect way to learn it, now I hear it when I'm playing. Thanks mate
Hahaha😢 that's so good
I freaking learned a lot, no Talking just kick ass playing bro . Best tutorial period. Thank you .
Glad I could teach you something new. I appreciate the kind words.
you can hear a lot of these during the "song remains the same" concert.
Very few people can capture Pages feel and be accurate with the notes. Salute dude you're a master!
Thanks so much! Some of Jimmy's greatest, hiding in the scales I play every day.
Really appreciate you for taking the time to record and post videos like this. It's an immense help to folks like me when you take the time to go through it slowly so I can get the fingering correct. It's not quite as intimidating when somebody walks you through these licks. Thank you!

It is pretty simple, though playing it totally clean isn't, at least for me. I'm not the best player in the world, I still struggle with it at times!
Maybe it's time for Another 14 Jimmy Page licks video. 😀
Excellent job! I'm going to steal a few of these. Thanks for posting
Nice tone from yer electric twangy. Spot on licks and great examples of execution for better understanding. Thx!
Great video lesson! The various speed licks are a big help thanks!
You're very welcome!

very cool
, i'd really like to see if you can cover dazed and confused live from TSRTS
flwns I'd love to cover that one, but honestly it would probably take me a year to learn the whole thing LOL. It has crossed my mind though. Thanks for watching!
That really fast descending type lick he does in dazed & confused (tsrts) just before lick 12 in this is fucking me over at the moment. Trying to figure out how and what he plays in it.
THANKS SO MUCH !!!
Thanks to you I can finally complete my collection of Page leaks ! Btw you're amazing
nice vid mate - to the point, no yab yab, and nicely played. Keep them coming!
this is gold, thank you so much
Appreciate it, and you're welcome!
Nice Page -like tone! Fun licks to play and listen to.

My favorite is the one where he's all like duh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuuuh duhduh
For a long time I've wanted to know these licks that Page used quite often when playing live. Thanks! I be happy with you doing dazed and confused from tsrts just up to when they start playing the San Francisco part :-)
Hah, I'm a long way off from playing something like that. I'm not even sure I have the endurance to play that right now, let alone the skill. But maybe one day!
Excellent, very useful, thanks a lot. I need to keep those fingers moving.....
FANTASTIC lesson! great job
Very very interesting, I wish there were more of these videos !
I love this tutorial. I know many more experienced guitarists may not need this but I would love if you put up what key you are playing in. Some of the licks I can see, some are not as clear. Great job and many thanks!
This is awesome, and very useful, thanks.
Lick 7 is so unique and wild .. I thought nobody noticed it in the live version of No Quarter
No frills, to the point tutorial. Thanks f sharing!
lick 3 0:45
lick 6 1:54 (since i've been loving you)
lick 9 3:22 ⭐
lick 12 5:26 (thunderstruck)
lick 13 6:06
___
lick 11 4:46
lick 1 0:04 "slash wanta-diddle-uh"
Thanks for the vid,great job
Great video! Very easy to follow!
The first lick on here I learned as Randy Rhoads lick (Mr Crowley), and didn't realize it was a Jimmy page lick until later.
Matt's guitars honestly everyone has been doing that since forever I’d say chuck berry is a huge pioneer of that lick
Nice selection. Thanks for the video
You're very welcome.
Great lesson. Tasty licks. Thank you!
Really nice lesson, thanks very much!!
Excellent enjoyed that, started using it as a practice tool already. Thx
Jimmy Page did lots of cool stuff with the BB Box
thanks for this video man... is great!!!!
No problem!
Fantastic sample of JP licks. Excellent choices. What exactly are the effects used and amp settings, especially the verb and delay? Thanks!!
Thanks! I don't remember what my amp settings were as it's been a while, pretty sure I had a bit of reverb, all volume and tone knobs at max on both the amp and guitar, with certain licks being played on the bridge pickup, while others being played in the middle position. Thanks so much just found Ur Show Awesome!!!!
i had no clue but this video is exactly what i needed rn for my learning
Straight and to the point good tutorial
Please do another one of these, this is the only video that goes over some of the more obscure live licks he would do. Everyone always just plays the same couple licks that’s on the recorss
great, thanks! great sound coming from the pickup selection, good amount of gain, great playing of course and well demonstrated. Oh and georgeous binding, Gibsons look ten times better with the white lines around them
Appreciate it!
dased and confused of the song remains..................... great,,,,,,,,, You helped me!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Hey, i love your licks! Do you like Niko Slash? I would love that you could make something about Slash licks
When you think JPP, think Mixo. But he also uses other cool scales too. There is a reason why at the end of Dazed & Confused live in Seattle

LedHed Steven 🎸 🎹 🎸
Really awesome! Just added to my guitar essentials playlist thx by the way which amp do you use?
Thanks! Nothing fancy, a simple Fender Champion 20, though I don't remember the exact settings I used here.
Awesome video!
Thanks!
You just saved me from a 15min talk thank y so much
Haha I can finally play the first one right! Sucks having arthritis.
Great video.

As someone trying to learn these, how do you make the licks sound so clean? Do you mute the strings immediately prior to play the next set?
Yes, if you want to play nice clean licks using distortion, better learn how to mute unwanted strings... that are tons of lessons on TH-cam about this technique
nice vid, thanks
1:30 or good times bad times, is very similar the lick
Excellent licks. But I think Lick 5 is from "Good Times Bad Times"
yes it is that fast run he does a few times in that song.
It's not. It's from communication breakdown
@Todd Maitland, starting at 2:02 on "good times, bad times"
Thanks dude
he uses a lot of sliding ascending licks as well as much more raked arpeggios that I had realized.
Great man!
You made it exactly! and with feel!
Thumb up!
excellent presentation
Tks !!!
can you do a video about lick 11. I heard something like it on the bbc heartbreaker solo but I just cant figure it out. But it sounds very similar to it
you got tabs for these? Great job by the way!
No tabs, all learned by ear. Sorry! And thank you!
THANK YOU!!
Awesome man
Do you have tabs plz? great job!
No tabs, all learned by ear. Sorry! And thank you!
thats badass
hey great video :) i think it would have been helpful to give the key to some of those licks.. i know most of them but still... just a little constructive critisism ;)
Luv it,Thks!
0:50 great lick, Major and minor mixed
These licks are great. There is a bunch of JP stuff on YT, but this is the most comprehensive pile of licks.
It would be really helpful if you gave a small explanation ie. what key? A root - E root
blues scale, minor etc.
This would add huge value to future lick stuff

Nice. Lot of interesting licks to pore over in a very short space of time
That was the idea! Lot's of material, no time wasted. Thanks for the feedback.
what is the scale for the lick nombre 9?
Very Nice!
Thanks!
What's your neck pickup tone/vol at?
THX man!
Post more Jimmy Page please
Nice job...thx!
I am coming back to this video every now and then because it's so cool to see all these licks !

nice tutorial. thx,,,rr
how do you specify lick 13
what amp arre you using?
Fender Champion 20
Thanks
I wish I had tab for that
New to guitars! whats a lick?? Anyone
A phrasing of a few notes, typically scale or chord based that just sound good. Frequently, they can be played around on the fretboard (different positions), albeit with different fingerings.
+Randall Yeager Usually defined as Lead, while a Riff is the same thing but used for rhythm. This is often the case, but not 100%
Tabs?
Groovy man
I THINK THE LICK 4 WAS FROM HOTEL CALIFORNIA SOLO.
With this video i can be the greatest guitar player of all time
Lick 6 is the best in my opinion
Agreed. Love the muted notes before it
One of my favorites as well!
sehr gut
Show !
It makes me wonder, honestly, how would a Black Sabbath sound on Jimmy Page's signature guitar?
Tritnew1 Alt it's a Gibbo with humbuckers. you'd be able to get most 70s rock sounds from it, from zz top, the free to black sabbath etc. :)
Love Love love Lick #2! A lot trickier than one might think...
Nice!
