If you ask me... that corn varietal is just corn. All the flavor notes on these bottles are very down the middle of the road. Nothing unusual or new. Each of these bottles drinks like a 5-6 year bottle with nothing special. The Wheated is probably the best of the lineup followed closely by the rye. I'd say the Wheated is probably on par with a Makers 46 Cask Str but still a half step below Weller. If this was a normal release at $65 and 750ml it would do better than Larceny BP. It doesn't have the sharper notes you sometimes get on Larceny.
That was an outstanding episode - I've watched MANY of them! Thanks for all the great insight - definitely plan to grab one of each offering based on the taste profile and uniqueness!
These sound great but being a limited release I’ll probably not see them in my area. One can only hope. Maybe it will be shelf stable in a few years. I'm a big fan of the 7 year bib from HH. Great review. Enjoy!!
I hope you enjoy your experience. I enjoyed it. Especially the pour your own. I wonder if they'll offer the grain to glass for tasting. I'm enjoying it right now. If they have the Bernheim...pay attention to that one. Always super good.
Big fan of Heaven Hill (7yr BIB, ECBP, LBP) and looking forward to these. The wheated has my main interest, especially after seeing the praise it’s received, but the rye would probably be my second. Hope to try these soon!
IN NC visiting. Stumbled on the Rye about 30 minutes ago at local ABC package store. We’re from CT and not much Heaven Hill makes it our way. Thanks for the review looking forward to cracking this baby.
I have the rye blend. It smells and tastes like dry grass and wild flowers. It’s well executed, but quite different from my usual reach. I don’t find it to be super minty thankfully.
Let's hope that Binny's receives a decent size allotment here in Chicago. I'd love to grab a bottle of that G-to-G high rye bourbon. If it weren't for the proof point (> 110 is normally too hot for my blood, ) I'd also go for the new wheater.
I just picked up a bottle of the GtG Wheat and was debating opening it. Interesting it is sweet. I think I will open it. I love Weller 12 and OWA but I am not a fan of SR or even Lot B 12 Year. I hate anything Larceny. Was worried this would be like sucking on a old sea chest. Your review is enticing. I will give it a whirl.
Just cracked open the wheat impression. Wow!!! Amazing and delicious. Thank you for your continously reviews. I have been watching you both since you started 8 yrs ago. Keep the passion of whidkey going and looking forward to see more.
It's weird that in whiskies that supposedly accent different varieties of corn than Heaven Hill uses, they chopped the corn percentage down to barely legal. 🤔 16:58 Is that choice or one money? Or for those who don't know Southern auction lingo, is the $99.99 price per bottle, or for all three together? 🙂
I saw this release on Breaking Bourbon. I asked my guy about it but he hadn't heard anything yet. This is great to see so I can get my feelers out there. The $100 price tag doesn't scare me at al. I definitely want the Wheated as that's usually my favorite. Thanks for a great review!!!
The only way to beat the price hikes is to pass on these type releases. It didn’t suddenly cost 5x as much $ to make a bottle of bourbon in the past few years.
So did i. They were on a locals allocated list for $100, but also had to use points. The wheated was gone instantly/before i even checked the website. Then i seen all 3 today at total wine for $115. Total wine, at least here in MA, their prices are getting ridiculous. They used to have the lowest prices, now they are one of if not the highest around
@@jacksmith2315 I stopped by a allocated drop in VA and they had a few of these. Not sure which ones. I picked up an Old Forester barrel proof rye for $80 ish.
Personally, I like to just be CLOBBERED by rye spice and flavor, so I know which one I'm looking for! (The wheated one sounds interesting as well, so maybe that one too)
Marketing spin and not actually grain to glass, not that these things have definitions from the TTB, they just mean KY Grain to Glass. But when I think Grain to Glass I think Single Estate like Frey Ranch or Jeptha Creed. So my guess is that HH's traditional mash is not wholly KY grain to glass.
Appreciate the video! Why are these distillers wanting to be farmers? Heaven Hill does not need to be awake at 4 am praying for more rain on the corn, they should be worrying about distilling bourbon. Let the farmers farm. This virtual signaling does not work in bourbon market which has already peaked. Grain to glass my @ss!!
You can't go wrong with HH. "Supply and Demand". Demand for bourbon is on the rise, prices go up with it. Bourbon is becoming popular again, bourbon websites and TH-cam channels appeal to the younger generation, and trends appeal to Hipsters. Again, the demand creates an increase in prices. Marketing is big business. Now it's time to crack open one of those "triple fruit-loop, citrus infused, bourbon barrel finished, IPA's".
I’m impressed that Heaven Hill changed up the mash bill and I appreciate it with it being a special release
Have been enjoying these
This is premium whiskey content.
Weird that they wanted to highlight the corn varietal by...using less of it.

I like sweet, so I’d keep my eyes open for the wheated bourbon. Enjoyed the video.

@@paulgrace1279 Thank you!!
I’m on the fence about paying 100 for a 700 ml bottle but I’d consider that wheated bourbon if I saw it on a shelf
Same
Not wild about the $100 price tag, but I’ll grab a bottle of the wheated bourbon as soon as I see it on a shelf.

Now all I want is to have all three together but good luck getting all three at once!
No way near the price tag. I'm alright with the BiB at under 50
Thanks guys, great content as always. Gonna keep an eye out for that wheater. Congrats on the award Sara!!
Got the wheater at Costco for $87.
Fun fact: Beck's Hybrids, the corn seed source, is about 10 minutes away from me. Feels cool to know 1/3 of the highlighted folks behind these.
Just picked up the Rye, looking forward to trying all of them.
I be doing a tasting at Heaven Hill next week and want to try the Wheated bourbon you shared. That one sounds Great!!

A good video thanks 🥃
Definitely the wheater for me. One of my favorite MGP mashbills is 51corn 45wheat 4MB. Appreciate the breakdown
Heven hill always drinks hot to me… and if it says it’s 120 proof it’s drinks at 120 😂

what a fun day!

I own a liquor store in ct. And I feel like heaven hill is more readily available than ever here.
“You’re a Heaven Hill girly too?”

$100? Wow, NO THANKS. I was excited until I saw the price
I happened upon the wheat bottle, feel like it’s a better or more special Larceny BP.
Wow, is it really worth purchasing these bottles. Great review
"A nose like memories." I'm going to have to file that one away for future use.
It's interesting, but I'm just not 100 interested.
FACTS
notice that there was no discussion on the price 😂
@@gtiraycer 99.99
Yeah, nope.
Saw it today for 109.99 it was gone in 2 seconds lol

All 3 readily available in NC where I live, ILM. I’ll pay up for a 120 proof wheater, not the others.
I'm not a "rye guy" but love a good wheated. I just hope the local Michigan markets don't crank up the selling price and I'm able to find the wheated.

First comment. This is what the mountaintop feels like
Haven’t watched yet, but I assume she’s gonna agree with everything he says . By the book
Sounds great. Can’t it be made affordable?
I work at Beck's hybrids. I hope to find a bottle.
Hope you got one. Working at the place sourcing one of the main ingredients, you guys should have been offered to buy some

I seen the wheated and the rye in NYC at my local liquor store. What do you guys think is it worth pulling the trigger? LMK thank you!
149.99 each sorry I left that out lol
Hummm, for $150 I would probably skip them and put that towards something else.
How does the wheated bourbon compare to Larceny Barrel Proof?
We'll have to try them side-by-side in a blind but just off hand I would think the Grain to Glass over Larceny BP.
What brand/company are you using to label the glasses?
@@mikey82sy Glencairn.
What do you think now that you know it's $100?
Having tried all 3…hard pass on all 3. The wheated is the best but that’s not saying much. Which surprised me because I love HH products.
100.00….🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 the bourbon market is for clowns now

Just hit my local TW for $115, gonna pass.
The wheated had a bubblegum nose
What is the meaning of life? Also great video.
The price sucks
I'd pass on these at $60.
IT’S. ALL. HYPE. 100 for experimental. Hard pass.
You guys describe tasting notes with the same 20 buzzwords. I have no idea what this whiskey is about after watching this….
