The whisky exchange sometimes has high end bottles out at retail. I have personally purchased pappy, stagg and other limited releases for retail in stores
Welcome to London guys! Glad you managed most of the hotspots for bottles. The Vintage house is a museum store for us, their pricing in general just makes no sense, especially around scotch whisky. That’s why that Four Roses 2017 will likely be sat there, most of us bypass Vintage House completely. Dram is where the latest BTAC night was held, all sold at RRP via live draw, probably the only place you’ll see that. And on another note, glad you got to meet Kiel at the Buffalo Trace store!
Welcome to my city. Hunting for bourbon in London is a challenge and expensive - BUT we have some great whiskey bars (Glad you got to Dram, it's a newer place and quite wonderful). The good thing about London is that it is so walkable. Many of the big places to buy whiskey aren't where a lot of us purchase our stuff - Gerry's is definitely a favourite and a good small distributor. They will help you if you buy from them a lot and have some good bourbon/rye picks that they do. We can also do some purchases from some of the other whiskey bars who also do picks. (I'm part of the British Bourbon Society and we get info on this stuff all the time). If you ever return, I'm sure we'd be happy to host a bottle share and include you!
@@theukyankee As a Londoner, what did you think about that 2017 Four Roses LE? Seemed pretty decent for such an old bottle, and we’ve had the 2017 before, it’s great.
Great video and if it was me, especially at the end of the trip, pass on the Daniel Weller pour. I wish they had stores like that in the U.S. Really cool.
Walked into a store in Athens Greece Jan 2020 and bought Blanton’s Gold for 92 pounds or $175 CDN. Was only in international markets at the time… its been an empty btl for a while now… great video
A lot of it has to do with who the distributor is. Sazerac, Brown Forman, Beam Suntory, Campari (Wild Turkey) all do their own distribution through subsidiaries which keeps prices lower. Others like Heaven Hill do not, and as a result their products cost way more than they should.
They have Leiper’s Fork distilling whiskey in a shop in London, but I can’t find it in my hometown in TN that’s 3 hours from the distillery. The world is strange.
Glad to see so ma y great bourbons represented there. I was afraid it was all just Jack Daniels and Jim Beam over there, because I recently saw a trio of Englishmen at anTotal Wine being super stoked to find a bottle of Jack Daniels Bonded whiskey:).
@@Brad-ic4bp Jack seemed to be pretty well represented in London, but Beam (as far as all the different Jim Beam expressions) were kind of lacking besides the white label. There was a lot more variety of Bourbon over there than we expected!
fun hunint across the pond. I would've done the daniel weller, Im in vegas and that pour is 450 or more.. so that is a great price. but I have not heard anything good either. so it is one of those. lol. fun video as always. cheers
I bought my very first EH Taylor at The Whisky Exchange for 78.95£ for their July bourbon of the month special. Still too much but much better than the average 90-120£. I got it since I'm on holiday in London and i have'nt seen it back home.
In judging price pour, I generally look at secondary pricing/25 and come up with retail bar price per ounce. So a $500 secondary bottle is worth $20/ounce to me. If the bar is selling it for $30 for a 1.5 oz pour, that's reasonable to me. Some bars will take the secondary and triple it and then do the divide by 25 thing.
These London prices make Australian bourbon prices look cheap. We can get Masters Keep Voyage for example for $280 AUD and Unforgotten for about the same amount
@@ItsBourbonNight 100% you should for more major brands. Currently with the AUD being shit that's $182 USD for Voyage and $234 for Triumph at the moment
@@justinvandee9428 Neat Bar isn't in our home town and we haven't there in a while so I'm not totally sure. I would say if any bar in KY has it, it's going to cost more than it was in London, though!
The tax on spirits over 40% in the UK creates a weird market for watered-down bourbon and an expensive market for proper bourbon. Ireland has to suffer for it because the mass market products end up in both countries. Ireland has 5 million people and the UK is pushing toward 70 million.
YES , I would have gotten a pour , I'll never find , and definitely never afford that , the only way I'd ever get the experience is an overpriced pour.... and ive seen the other side , often times bars also over pay just to obtain a bottle and must charge accordingly to provide this experience to customers
If I were in your shoes and faced with an expensive shot I needed to review, I would have absolutely done it. It's a tax deductible business expense right? 🎉
I'm with you two on the decisions... We gotta vote with our wallets on these high prices and yeah, stupid high price.. they're gonna hafta find a stupid rich person. At the end of the day, it's whiskey people. Whiskey is good, to a point.
I think saying you were over drinking at the point you saw the Daniel Weller means you made the right call not paying that for it. Would it have been worth it to sit there and almost force yourself to drink it just to say you did? It would probably ruin the experience knowing you paid that much for it and you didn't even really want it in the first place.
