    I must tell you, this is the best visual demo of how to take apart the glove compartment to check the air filter and also how to replace the hydraulic strut handle to the glove compartment side panel. I have watched others but yours is the best visually. You go step by step and explain each step. Bravo to you and thank you for helping many people, including myself. 👍🏼

    I think the Prius C plastic much have stiffened up a lot since 2012. There was almost no flex at all in glove box.
    I could pop one side out, but then, there was a lot of compression on the other side, and I could not squeeze the plastic inwards enough. After 1/2 hour, I got out some big screwdrivers to use as pry bars! What a PITA!
    It took about 45 minutes.
    Then, I moved over to the 2014 RAV4 (uses the same filter) and used the same process. I replaced the dirty filter in about 4 minutes. Didn't need any tools on the RAV4.. Next time, my wife can change her own filter! ;)

      I just referred to this video again to replace the filter. It does not matter which side one selects as the opposite will give a huge fight. This is when I find at least 30' for this job. At least the engine air filter replacement is a breeze. Still beats paying big money at the dealer or area mechanic.

      Thanks. I also struggled for more than 20 minutes to get the glovebox released. It’s a serious pain to get it out. The Prius C is a great car but this is a crummy design.

    Thanks, very clear and consice instructions.For some reason the dealership seems to think I'm STUPID. I not only have a Masters degree( doesn't help with auto maintenance) but I've got great people staring their knowledge on TH-cam.

    Thank you. Based on this video I was able to change the cabin air filter for our 2014 Prius C. It seems to be the same procedure. Definitely hard to squeeze that glove box out, though. Thanks again. :)

    I agree this is best demo taking glove box and checking filter cabin. Just bought the car. It was easy taking it off. For whatever reason giving me trouble. The spring got loose it was giving me trouble and it's hot in garage. Thanks step by step👍. I was losing it lol. Bravo 👏. Keep up good work!!

    Thank you for this. I'm going to go check the filter in my '12 Prius right now. It looks much easier to get at than the one in the Ford Fiesta I had. And save $$$ and DIY.

    Thanks for this. Got mine replaced recently, some mice started a nest in my cabin filter. Opened it again, found some debris but no droppings. I hope the mice stay away.

    Depending on the brand filter you buy...
    Air flow is NOT going up. Air flow is down. If you put the filter in with the arrow pointing up then it's upside down unless it says up by the arrow.
    The ONLY time an arrow on a cabin air filter should point up is if it says "up" next to the arrow. All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter have downward air flow. Otherwise the blower motor would be full of dirt and debris. If it doesn't say up next to the arrow then the arrow indicates air flow direction and should point down.
    Still not sure? Then remove the filter and turn on the blower. Then put your hand where the filter goes. Does it feel like it's blowing upward? Use a piece of string or tissue paper. They will be sucked downward.
    All the Toyota parts that say up on them have nothing to do with air flow. They are simply telling us which side goes up.@

    in the directions it says the filter should point down? step6 "Install the new filter with the arrow indicator, printed on the side of the filter, pointed down"

    • @marcusvaldes
      @marcusvaldes 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Eddie Garcia Yes arrows down. Some filters say UP then you put the arrows up. Depends on brand.

    Hmm seems like I'm missing my cabin air filter cover. Will that affect the airflow?

    Won't work for me. 2012 Prius C. I press in the right side, fine. Then the left side won't budge. It doesn't help that the left side compartment panel is inflexible, unlike the right side. Stupid design. But I can pull in the left side first (because of the flexibility of the right side panel), but then the right side doesn't have enough room or flexibility to compress so I can drop the compartment.

    How often do you change the cabin filter?

  • @mattaitchey4917
    @mattaitchey4917 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The arrow does not necessarily point up, it's direction of air flow .. Such a simple job yet You could actually have it wrong
