I think the biggest thing was they probably thought they could flip Randle towards the deadline assuming that Naz could step it up and take Kat’s spot, or to let him walk after this year with the cap space clear up. Randle though is always one of those players who I feel their trade value is iffy because of the effort they put forth honestly. It always baffles me when you have players with that type of build physically who are just horrendous defenders or are allergic to playing defense consistently. And because Randle’s one of those players, his value is always hit or miss especially when his offensive side of the game isn’t clicking.
worst thing about randle is he is a pf that doesn't box out. Ever. He will never ever box out. Knicks made the playoffs in spite of randle stealing Mitchell Robinson's stats. Knicks literally got bounced out the playoffs because randle is not to be trusted on the basketball court.
Trading for Rudy did them before they even knew it. They had Walker Kessler, who is younger, less expensive, and would've filled in the rim protector role nicely. I don't think they would've gone as far with Kessler as they did with Rudy, but they could have down the line while still having draft capital. Even if they ended up trading KAT anyway, they still would have (had) Ant, Naz Reid, McDaniels, Kessler, and picks. The depth they traded to get Rudy is up for assumption.
As a Knicks fan, I was hurt to lose Divo, but Randle was becoming more and more toxic. Still miss him, but KAT made himself right at home in NYC. He seems happy and is playing well. I thought he was going to be Kitty KAT, but he's the Big Bodega Kat lol 😅He won me and a lot of Knicks fans over instantly
They wanted a lot and only traded him when the Knicks offered Donte. The rest of the league saw KAT’s contract for what it truly is, a massive overpay on a player that is starting to deal with the injury bug.
I can practicaly hear Anthony Edwards in 4-5 years saying "the KAT trade was the moment I knew the Wolves weren't serious about winning" after getting traded to an actual contending team
it was for financial future stability but i still hate it as a wolves fan. I've been watching Kat for years, seeing him go is heartbreaking and we lost our glue guy. He was the only one willing and successful at passing gorbert the ball multiple times through the game. Sad year for MN BB
I think a deadline deal of Randell for Ingram could make a lot of sense. The Wolves get another scoring option alongside Edwards, Pelicans get an offensive minded big. Both are on expiring deals and we don’t know how willing these terms are to resign them, so it could be worth it to see how each team looks. All of the pelicans injuries could make it hard for this deal to get done, though
Pelican are gonna want more they're not giving away BI for Julius Randle a player they already had and didn't want to be there in his prime this isn't 2k 😂💀do you guys even pay attention to the actual basketball scene?? Pelicans didn't resign Julius in 2019 because he declined his option his game does not fit their system only way this works is if the Twolves gives up that pick with Julius plus maybe a young wing like McDaniels.
I think it would need to be a 3 teamer. I don't see the Pels wanting Randle because he can pretty much only play PF and they already have zion. Even if they try to make him play Center that's such a disaster of a defensive front court I don't think it's worth it. I scenario I could see is maybe the bulls get involved and send out Vucci Mane?
@@Aaron-dw4fr Could be a three teamer. When healthy, they have such good defense from their forwards it could MAYBE cover for Randle. I just know the Pelicans have wanted a stretch center for years and haven’t gotten one, so maybe they experiment with an offensive minded big and see how that works? As I eluded to in my original comment, if they don’t plan on resigning Ingram then there isn’t a ton of risk here
"could be worth it to see how each team looks" More worth it than SIMPLY WAITING SOME TIME for the Wolves to build chemistry and start working with Randle?? Literally last night was the 1st game so far where they hustled on defense and we almost beat the reigning champions on their home floor(which would've also been the first time we do so since 2006.) Give the Wolves time to click for Christ's sake! Yall Tik Tok brain have a serious patience problem, I don't even know how yall watch the games without getting bored🤣
rudy isn't either? like, was he not the reason the wolves went from 1st round exit every year to wcf last year with the 1st defense? when you look at the jazz, they aren't doing well since the rudy trade, granted they pretty much got rid of everyone but without gobert they didn't even exist
It is so flippin OBVIOUS. Randle's bully ball does not work with Ant or Gobert. Therefore they CANNOT play together at same time. Naz is the more natural replacement to Kat vs Randle. Start Naz and have him close the game with Ant. Have Randle do his bully ball in bench time along with good catch and shoot 3s in Naw and Dante. I'm beyond sick of seeing Ant share the court with Randle. IN SUMMARY... START NAZ OVER RANDLE NOW!!!!!!!
It’s the Rudy Gobert trade that was the original sin. There wouldn’t have been the salary-cap crunch, or the depleted assets, that forced them to dump KAT. They had the right idea: Fix the defense by moving KAT to power forward next to a rim-protecting center. It was complete overkill to go for the best, and by far the most expensive, version of that archetype in the league. Echoes of the Joe Smith under-the-table deal debacle that doomed the Kevin Garnett wolves. Ant is going to leave at some point; just a matter of when.
It is not like the Joe Smith deal. That deal was almost illegal, and it was over a player who was not as good or impactful as Rudy. The Wolves were forced to relinquish their draft picks for that; they willingly gave them up for Rudy.
Might’ve messed up their immediate future, but getting off the backend of KATs contract, in theory that should be better long term for them (so long as they don’t piss the saved money away)
@@YuriBoris-s8u Absolutely terrific defender and inconsistent shooter just like 3 days ago 1-9 for 3 against one of the worst defensive teams in the league the Utah Jazz and that 1 three was in garbage time since the Jazz BLEW OUT the Knicks "balling out"
Knicks are looking solid right now. 10-7 record right now. Their offense is truly elite now adding KAT. Their defense isn't great, but it's not bad. Knicks fans love KAT so far. It's more so the Bridges trade they're more upset about. They gave up 5 picks for a 3 and D wing who's been super inconsistent thus far. If Mikal was playing the way he was when he was a Sun, Knicks would be looking fantastic right now.
I think a lot of people don't give enough credit to one very important part of team building, which is how pieces work together. A good piece doesn't necessarily work in all situations, it's a very basic idea but it's one people often ignore in the heat of the moment which leads to trades like this. Randle and DiVincenzo aren't bad players but that doesn't mean they replace what Kat does in their scheme. Similarly Kat probably isn't exactly what the Knicks need although with how good he is they can hopefully either get him to fit or accommodate him.
Obviously the Gobert trade wasn’t good when it happened and during that season but they’re doing well with Gobert now granted his contract sucks where you had to trade Kat to avoid the second apron which so far the second apron is being bad then good
I mean, people were saying this but 10x harsher when they got gobert. They need time to at least have a chance to gel. I think theres a good chance youre right, but i would just wait a bit longer before this kind of talk
Trading away Karl was a mistake of epic proportions. He spread the floor for them. He was an exemplary teammate and employee. He never complained. And above all, he didn’t mind Edwards being the majn guy.
yeah, I believe Ant a great player, but do you believe the wolves are going to be a great team? The west is only getting better. With the Warriors, thunder rockets, Lakers, nuggets , sons ,Mavericks, grizzlies, hell the Spurs look better than the Timberwolves every single one of those teams at least has a star or has a crazy amount of cap space/draft picks nobody wants Rudy Gobert/Julius Randle they’re stuck with those guys guys that can only play on one side of the court are are not helpful for winning championships .
People keep waiting for the next Jordan, but guess what people: when the next Jordan comes, you won't know it, because he will be the first whoever he is. When Jordan came along no one said, "He's the next so-and-so." He just was. He was just himself.
If KAT plays well in the conference finals they keep him, simple as that. He is a playoff dropper and always has been. He’s doing so good right now in New York but it’s only a matter of time until the wheels fall off with him
If ANT plays well in the conference finals, maybe they win that series? Maybe if gobert doesn't get cooked by luka especially down the stretch in almost every game, they win that series? But nah let's blame it all on KAT lol

KAT played great even though Lively shot 16/16 (100%) against him in the series. The only good thing KAT did in the series was knee Lively in the back of the head. especially considering his age and injury history, it seems Tim Connelly didn't see the Wolves winning a Championship with KAT as the #2 guy. Now did he see winning a championship with Randle as the #2? doubt it. But it may mean there could be another trade soon.
they traded KAT to a real contender, that's the most respect you can give a cornerstone player, and everyone knows they didn't get equal value on the trade, because the goal was financial flexibility, while respecting KAT. The point isn't to win this year, it's to not bankrupt the team as the NBA trends downwards. the NBA is a business first and the timberwolves have the shakiest ownership situation in the league.
was such a bad trade for minnesota. On top of that they don't really get much for a great talent like KAT, which makes no sense. Bridges got 4 first round picks. You would think you could have got a lot better assets for KAT than what they got. Just an overall awful trade.
The problem that they have run into is the fact that they traded one of the best big men floor spacers that have ever existed extending to the power forward position, and if you're just looking at centers Kat was the best. For a guy who can't space the floor as well, Like that is the conundrum here. I understand some of the logic if they are in the postseason and they managed to figure out how to get it to work, but also even then Julius has his problems because he can go really cold. So it definitely wasn't a move for this season they probably hurt themselves a lot this year.
This happened with the Rudy trade. I know it looks bad now but give it a year and then evaluate. Media went from worst trade of all time to Minnesota are in the WCF.
Very strange team dynamics right now. When AE takes the lead, we win. When Randle takes the lead, we lose. Our GM acts like he has a master plan but this seems line a dud.

@@ceebee312 Bruh, I laughed out loud🤣You guys literally have a *2438-2103* record in 56 years(53.7% winning percentage) literally one of the best out of all teams in the league! We on the other hand have the WORST out of ANY team - *1115-1655* in 35 years(41.1% winning percentage)
Your Suns don't look nearly as bad all of a sudden, do they?😂
Utah has never won a title in any sport besides soccer. Imagine being Utah.
The Wolves are giving me a 2023 Grizzlies vibe that I cannot disipate.
Of course, the 2023 Grizzlies gave me a 2022 Atlanta Hawks vibe, so...
I think Randle is too inconsistent and Donte doesn't like it there so the chemistry is bad too
They need more from DiVincenzo
Randle was injured most of last year. How was he toxic
As a Timberwolves fan since KAT got drafted it sucks to see our future get destroyed by a pointless trade AGAIN
In New York, The Big Mangu looks like a First Option to me!
just like how your mother is the first option in the bar
No first option .. 1* option with Brunson
I can't believe they didn't get multiple 1st round picks in the Towns trade. Should had gotten most if not all those picks back you gave for Rudy
They wanted a lot and only traded him when the Knicks offered Donte. The rest of the league saw KAT’s contract for what it truly is, a massive overpay on a player that is starting to deal with the injury bug.
As a Minnesotan, wolves always trade away their best big man. KG, Love and Kat
I can practicaly hear Anthony Edwards in 4-5 years saying "the KAT trade was the moment I knew the Wolves weren't serious about winning" after getting traded to an actual contending team
Watch this be true 😂😂
it was for financial future stability but i still hate it as a wolves fan.
As I eluded to in my original comment, if they don’t plan on resigning Ingram then there isn’t a ton of risk here
Ingram is overrated too.
"could be worth it to see how each team looks"
More worth it than SIMPLY WAITING SOME TIME for the Wolves to build chemistry and start working with Randle?? Literally last night was the 1st game so far where they hustled on defense and we almost beat the reigning champions on their home floor(which would've also been the first time we do so since 2006.) Give the Wolves time to click for Christ's sake! Yall Tik Tok brain have a serious patience problem, I don't even know how yall watch the games without getting bored🤣
It's almost like KAT isn't repleacable like that but Rudy is
Bingo!
rudy isn't either? like, was he not the reason the wolves went from 1st round exit every year to wcf last year with the 1st defense? when you look at the jazz, they aren't doing well since the rudy trade, granted they pretty much got rid of everyone but without gobert they didn't even exist
Brilliantly put, my friend.
It is not like the Joe Smith deal. That deal was almost illegal, and it was over a player who was not as good or impactful as Rudy. The Wolves were forced to relinquish their draft picks for that; they willingly gave them up for Rudy.
If you are a big man that can shoot on the perimeter and your name starts with a K, don't go to Minnesota.
Might’ve messed up their immediate future, but getting off the backend of KATs contract, in theory that should be better long term for them (so long as they don’t piss the saved money away)
For sure, KAT is not a 60+ mil a year type of player, he doesn’t have that kind of impact
That's why he's balling out for the Knicks
Idk man KAT is kinda nice with it
@@YuriBoris-s8u Absolutely terrific defender and inconsistent shooter just like 3 days ago 1-9 for 3 against one of the worst defensive teams in the league the Utah Jazz and that 1 three was in garbage time since the Jazz BLEW OUT the Knicks
"balling out"
@@BeerAndJointsAllDayterrific defender??
Not even a wolves fan but this gives me pain
Both teams lost the trade tbh, Knicks defense went right out the window going from Hartenstein to KAT
They lost I-Hart before the trade, so that was already done. And their other center is still out. So they didn't have much choice.
Obviously the Gobert trade wasn’t good when it happened and during that season but they’re doing well with Gobert now granted his contract sucks where you had to trade Kat to avoid the second apron which so far the second apron is being bad then good
Those 2 firsts they gave up for that 8th pick will hunt them forever
Rob?? Rob is one of the most talented rookies in the leagues. He’s only gonna get better
@@prince-bm4xt sure buddy
They should of just ran it back, salary cap be damned you have Edwards and a chance to win
Kat > Rudy
I mean, people were saying this but 10x harsher when they got gobert. They need time to at least have a chance to gel. I think theres a good chance youre right, but i would just wait a bit longer before this kind of talk
ruin their future? no but they did take a step back...Im surprised they didnt run it back at least one more year before making such a big change
W vid already ❤
Trading away Karl was a mistake of epic proportions. He spread the floor for them. He was an exemplary teammate and employee. He never complained. And above all, he didn’t mind Edwards being the majn guy.
Well, let's be honest, too. KAT proved that he was not good enough to truly lead them anywhere substantial.
@@urbaindelva7869 that’s why i applaud him for letting Ant take over. He’s aware and he readily accepted Ant as the leader. That’s rare.
Anthony Edwards is only 23 years old, getting better every year. Wolves have looked off and figured things out before. I believe in Ant.
Oh when was that when they figured it out? 2004?
@@anthonytrevino3191I'd say WCF after beating the Nuggets is figuring things out. I get being skeptical, but anything can happen. It's early days imo.
I believe in Ant but not the wolves
yeah, I believe Ant a great player, but do you believe the wolves are going to be a great team? The west is only getting better. With the Warriors, thunder rockets, Lakers, nuggets , sons ,Mavericks, grizzlies, hell the Spurs look better than the Timberwolves every single one of those teams at least has a star or has a crazy amount of cap space/draft picks nobody wants Rudy Gobert/Julius Randle they’re stuck with those guys guys that can only play on one side of the court are are not helpful for winning championships .
Not gonna matter if he has no help tho
That's why you shouldn't compare young players to MJ or any all time great players
People keep waiting for the next Jordan, but guess what people: when the next Jordan comes, you won't know it, because he will be the first whoever he is. When Jordan came along no one said, "He's the next so-and-so." He just was. He was just himself.

What does comparing ant to mj have anything to do with dis
They do have a bright future ahead of them... in the sunny beaches of Cancun!
If KAT plays well in the conference finals they keep him, simple as that. He is a playoff dropper and always has been. He’s doing so good right now in New York but it’s only a matter of time until the wheels fall off with him
Plus, Tibs will probably run him to the ground,
The way he played vs Utah 1/9 from 3, -34 was reminiscent of playoff KAT
If ANT plays well in the conference finals, maybe they win that series? Maybe if gobert doesn't get cooked by luka especially down the stretch in almost every game, they win that series? But nah let's blame it all on KAT lol
@ seems like I struck a nerve here lol. I’m just saying that him always playing bad in the playoffs made him expendable so it was easier to trade him
@@mambaASI - you do realize that KAT shot 38% in the conference finals? He put up the worst 3 point shooting series in nba playoff history (8/33 - 24%)
Ant - 24.6 ppg, 8.8 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 1 steal, 0.4 blocks
KAT - 19.6 ppg, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals, 0 blocks
But yes, it was all Ant and Rudy. KAT played great even though Lively shot 16/16 (100%) against him in the series. The only good thing KAT did in the series was knee Lively in the back of the head. It resulted in our only win of the series
tuned in early just to let you guys know youre my go-to youtube channel at work!
especially considering his age and injury history, it seems Tim Connelly didn't see the Wolves winning a Championship with KAT as the #2 guy. Now did he see winning a championship with Randle as the #2? doubt it. But it may mean there could be another trade soon.
Yes, it's probably why the vid is under 10 mins but I'll still watch.
Randle Lacks defense and it's killing the team, hopefully Finch can put some Ire in him
Whats killing the team is his selfishness
He’s a ball hog. That’s what’s killing the team
KAT is having a career year. At the five he is unguardable. He just drops a quiet 25 lol.
And he gives up 30 a nughtb
they traded KAT to a real contender, that's the most respect you can give a cornerstone player, and everyone knows they didn't get equal value on the trade, because the goal was financial flexibility, while respecting KAT. The point isn't to win this year, it's to not bankrupt the team as the NBA trends downwards. the NBA is a business first and the timberwolves have the shakiest ownership situation in the league.
Indeed. Indeed.
was such a bad trade for minnesota.
For a guy who can't space the floor as well,
Like that is the conundrum here. I understand some of the logic if they are in the postseason and they managed to figure out how to get it to work, but also even then Julius has his problems because he can go really cold. So it definitely wasn't a move for this season they probably hurt themselves a lot this year.
Edwards is just a good scorer. That's all he is. Means wolves is just a ordinary team
Couple months ago, Wolves fans said they got a steal from the Spurs. 🤣
we good over here
You sure?
The tesla edit funny asf and soo true lmao.
This happened with the Rudy trade. I know it looks bad now but give it a year and then evaluate. Media went from worst trade of all time to Minnesota are in the WCF.
KAT better than Randle and ANT fr. He just took a backseat and casuals thought he was trash
He is a liability in the playoffs. Ant isn’t
KAT IS trash and only casuals like you think he isn't, yall just look at shooting % and stats, thinking better stats = better player
There’s no way u think ant is better then Randle
Randle on defense is trash(getting better tho),offensively he's been amazing and hasn't been taking alot of shots either
Randle been more consistent than Edwards tbh
This remind of Phoenix when they went to the finals
This video seems like a month too early, but hopefully some Wolves players see this and get motivated to play some defense consistently.
Very strange team dynamics right now. When AE takes the lead, we win. When Randle takes the lead, we lose. Our GM acts like he has a master plan but this seems line a dud.
It’s crazy because they just got rid of cat and it was like what are y’all doing? He had a bad series, but oh my gosh, you cannot get rid of him for Julius Randolph.
Fr. Antwon Eduardo can’t carry the twolves by himself!
One of the dumbest trades in the past couple years

McDaniels, Anderson and Towns were the ones anchoring the defense.
we're fucked, there's no other way to put it
Anthony Edwards is over rated.
Gobert trade really messed them up, they traded Kessler who turned out to be a pretty good big so honestly it’s looking bleak
Kessler is only in his 3rd season now. Idk that he would've provided the same impact as Rudy as a second-year player.
Need the Synthetic curse to work on the Wolves for this season now

Jack Jones is the raiders 6th string nickel? crazy
It's Minnesota sports, of course they did
yes they did when they had the piece together and traded away Town it's done, sayibg that Randle is not the missing piece for a championship team
Iwill send out gobert and randle for KAT all day long
Massively left out how KAT played in 24 playoffs that narrative led to the trigger being pulled
Seeing that the Wolves want to repeat the KG experience, I personally can't wait for them to trade Ant to the Celtics and win a chip with them.
They have more cap space in the future though, which is part of why they traded KAT.
ANT is still 23 and he has a young talented core that will keep improving every year surrounding him. Who said that being good is enough to get a ring? It took many years for most greats, there are many things to figure out. Just be patient.
Lmao. Wolves could turn it around. There is a lot of season left. But regardless of that, imagine telling the face of the franchise, who's known to be very blunt with people and a hot head at times, hey we know things don't look great, but you're 23, you got plenty of time, so this season is pretty much going to be a wash, just wait until next year. You really think Ant is cool with wasting his time?
@@nathanaelgion2762Ant already said he wanted to reunite with KAT during the preseason 😂

maybe Wolves should try Reid for starting 4 position. last season it worked really well when KAT had injury. Randle is good solo scorer but not a team player, sadly and his defense sucks. im not seeing him as main number 4.
Yup just go tell your 3 time all star he's going to be coming off the bench from now on. That shouldn't cause any problems on this team that's struggling to build chemistry

The Wolves will be just fine, and the fans NEED to stop freaking out. Yeah starting out losing sucks, it really does, and the whole Minnesota stereotype is obviously flaming right now. But they just need to get everything clicking, Randle obviously isnt staying, and will be traded by the deadline for probably a few pieces. I could see Donte staying, he just needs to find his place and be happy with where he is at. The Wolves in no way could keep Towns long term without ruining their depth, so I don't blame them. I hope they get everything going soon enough, cuz when clicking, they are dangerous.
