Thanks for your video. I replaced the shuttle gear and then sewed up the hem of 1 leg of my jeans but when I tried to sew the second leg nothing happened! I eventually realised the feed gears had shredded so then I had to replace them as well. Quite a job! Then I found another video on timing the feed. Now it all works great.

Ahh good to hear you got it fixed.
This machine was a hard waste find that sat in my shed for 10 years before I decided to find out what was wrong

One thing about the 527. It is a free arm sewing machine. Yours is missing the slide in plate that allows it to also be used as a flatbed sewing machine. You could easily source one out on the web to fit this model, if you ever find the need to do so. It is a nice machine, and your repair work was top notch.
If the needle bar ever goes out of alignment on this, there is a video that the Sewing Machine Repair Guy did on a similar model, the 533. It's another brittle plastic situation with an upper washer that is easily fixed, thanks to a FB group suggesting a workaround to pulling a very complex cam assembly apart. I'll include a link if you ever need to reference it.
I really enjoy watching you work a problem with the mechanicals. It's helped me, actually, with some adjustments I had to make to a 496 Starlet (free arm model, gears like your 527, not similar to the flatbed Starlet/Genie model).
I'm curious. Is the 527 a slant shank? It sure looks like the Starlet's slant shank, was just curious as you stated (I think) that it was a short shank. Slants are short, but are canted like a jet engine pilon instead of straight down.
Keep up the great video work.
    Dave.
For Sewing Machine Repair Guy's video on the broken upper washer workaround (This apparently affects a lot of Singer models of this vintage):

Sorry for taking so long to reply, this comment found it's way into the "held for review" category, that I don't get notified about.
I only check that when I'm not feeling easy to offend.
I can't tell you much about this machine as I'm not an expert on them, only that this was a hard waste find some years ago, and needed to be repaired in order to complete a few jobs I had around the house.
the video resulted in me receiving the donation of a few other singer models also. Presently it's out of action due to fractured carbon resistor in the foot pedal and I'm using a 1940's model in it's place - it gets very little use.

Hi. I have a singer 527, the shuttle gear teeth were completely worn off so I need to re align the shuttle. What is the timing mark supposed to line up with? Thanks.

This is a couple of years old now, but this should link you to the timecode where I have my best attempt at getting things correctly timed:

The flatbed attachment stores inside the lid, might be still there😊

Great Video! Just moved in to a new house and found a Singer 538 in perfect condition, I googled on ebay to find out it's value and the only thing I saw were gear kits and it got me worried. I assume that my gears will give up sooner or later so I'm absolutely delighted to have this video should I need any help replacing them! Thanks lots :)

      No worries, glad to help.
      They get old and crumble.

@@TheAussieRepairGuy Do you by chance know if the replacement gears are of a more durable material than the old ones?

    • @TheAussieRepairGuy
      @TheAussieRepairGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@surenkirazian7828 they appear to be teflon. The older ones looked like nitrocellulose. In which case they would be much better. Regardless, it's all you can get now...

Will this work for a Singer 534? My feeding dog needs to be repaired.

I'm not an expert on the topic, and don't have access to a model 534 to compare. But as far as I understabd, the gear drive is common to many singer models.

You've mounted that top gear-wheel th-cam.com/video/LHyIKIyty8g/w-d-xo.html in reverse, the screw needs to go where the shaft has this inseam!

I haven't really touched this machine since 2019 when I did this video. Presently it functions without issue.
Also if you want to reference a time code in a video, you can just use the timecode directly eg: 30:15.
I'll go back and see what you were talking about
