    I read all the comments and responses and get so much more than from watching the video alone, I highly recommend doing so. Great video and work, I love all my Singers.

    I have a singer 648 and the exact same thing happened to it.. Obviously it's not the same machine but I could assume that the same thing happened, and yes. I was looking for where the problem was because it did not rotate the hook channel and from so many videos that I saw there is no video that showed me about this machine that I have. So, your video specifies more about what could have happened to mine because it is similar and I analyzed well where the problem was so thanks to you and your teaching, I found the issue. The top vertical shaft gear was missing because it did not meet the horizontal gear, which is near the rotation wheel.. Thank again & much blessings!

    I know this is an older video and hopefully you will answer (crosses fingers) but its helped me except I cannot get the top upper vertical gear out... it has the smallest allen wrench screw I've ever seen..and they are stuck in there... i don't understand how to get it out..its so frustrating. This is for a customer of mine. I own a restoration sewing machine shop and I bought a new gear..now I've followed your video and that top gear just wont budge.what do you suggest? Please help thank you

    By watching your video, replacing that little part, looks so easy....I took my machine, which I inherited recently) to a repair shop....they wanted over US$150 saying that he needed to replace ALL gears...well, the machine turns on, the needle goes up and down but.....the bobin portion does not move. So I am thinking on replacing this gear like you did.....will it work? I hate to spend US$150 on a gear replacement, OR....toss the machine in the trash.....when there is Singer new for sale for LESS than this repair price...Besides, ALL Singers now, are made in China, of PLASTIC, and they are not a good working tool at all...The old Singers, made of METAL, are what I call....a WORKING HORSE for life. Would appreciate your opinion....

      @More350Power  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mariliza B,A,C It was fairly cheap for all the gears with some research. If the existing ones arent showing signs of slipping or being stripped, I would replace what I needed to. The old ones are better, a good lubrication and a fresh set of gears on this one as the wrong ones were installed by a shop previously and this runs like new !

    I'm trying to replace that same gear in a 648 both the top gear does not have a allen screw in it its like a hollow rivet iv'ed tried to punch it out tryed to drill it out but no luck. do you have maybe another way I not sure what to try next

    is there a difference between the black plastic gears whose teeth are perpendicular to the center, and the white nylon plastic gears that have spiral cut gear teeth? Both are noted for 600 series.
    The white nylon ones are more expensive; is that necessarily better?
    Lastly: is anyone making metal gear replacements for the plastic ones?
    Are metal better/worse for any reason? (ie: gear breaks vs machine)
    Thank you for an 'approachable' and well done video..

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The black ones are a fiber type gear and the nylon are just that. Other than that, the direction and cut of the teeth are the only difference. The gears I am installing are genuine singer parts. This machine called for the fiber plastic gears while some do in fact call for metal. I would personally not like the metal as if something jams, the plastic gear breaks and not the machine usaly. Thank you for wathing and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. For some strange reason my youtube did not let me reply to comments till today

      THanks much!
      I'd found a set of metal gears for my 626, as well as plastic..so I'll proceed w/ caution.
      __
      Since my earlier post: kind of a bummer: I've got -two- Singer 626's; and within minutes of using the 2nd one, the needle came down on ''metal".. and I'd only sewn about 1 yard long, simple seam.. Any suggestions on how I may be throwing the timing (?) if I'm -not- pulling the fabric through?(basic straight seam, not-thick materials)..
      * I -do- appreciate you putting this information and description of processes up; it's very helpful, and encourages me to try to fix stuff vs just shelling out about $300 to fix 2 machines. -Thanks!

    • @iamyianni
      @iamyianni 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Valenta did you fix it? Did the metal gears work? There’s a video on here dealing with setting time of touch and sew. If you need I can find it

    • @1953childstar

      @@khanscombe619 You cannot mix metal and plastic gears. All the gears need to be replaced at once for a beneficial outcome.

    Hi
    Nice video. I just had all the gears replaced in this same machine and it worked for a while, but now turning the hand wheel only turns the mechanism inside gear one, but doesn't turn the gear. I can freely turn the gear by hand to make all the others turn. Any ideas? Thanks!

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Traci, from what your describing when you turn the main wheel/crank whatever you want to call it..... the needle moves but the bobbin mechanism does not, and most likely the feeder under the pressure foot doesnt work either. Am I right ? I had to tighten and re tighten after I timed it after running it a bit in between. It sounds like one of two things happened to yours. One, one of the gears loosened up and is not meshing with one of the others or, like the previous repair shop did to this one when they replaced the gears, they had ones that worked, but werent the correct part numbers and after a little a few stripped out. Most likely one of the set screws on one of the gears is loose letting it spin on the shaft that it is supposed to be tightened to....

      @@More350PowerI was so excited to finally find these videos as the 620 is the exact machine I have and it has the same broken gears that need replacing. I see this video was posted years ago but curious if you have a list of the correct size gears so I can avoid putting in the wrong size/type that you noted the previous repair shop did. You make it look so easy!! Hope to give this a try once I find correct gears. Thank you!

  • @tinapickett4692

    Is it possible to change the lower horizontal gear without removing the shaft? I would like to access the broken gear through the bottom of the machine and put the new one on. I am afraid if I take the whole shaft out, I will create a bigger problem for myself and won't be able to fix it at all.

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you probably could, but it may be more difficult to get it in or out. I tore this machine apart several times before making this video to find the easiest way to replace the parts. If you replace one, you might want to replace the others especially if they are the fiber gears like these.
