    Good old bakers technic: place a tray with water under the tray of bread or croisant you are toasting, water will evaporate hydrating the product while the heating coils are going to crisp the edges (might wanna flip in between if oven fan is unavailable), also might save you the 329dollar price

    • @chaoticbells
      @chaoticbells 3 ปีที่แล้ว +73

      this was all I was thinking throughout the video. I mean, sure the practicality of this oven sounds awesome, but it is not that rare the water trick in the oven. or even just brush some water directly on the bread you're reheating (less effective but better than nothing)

    • @crystalwang1532
      @crystalwang1532 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Bells But the need for the oven to preheat is the thing that’s throwing me off. Cuz this toaster oven can have ur breakfast finished in 4 minutes. A conventional oven is going to take much longer.

    • @chaoticbells
      @chaoticbells 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@crystalwang1532 but Inga said that that toaster oven also needs some preheating. sure it would be quicker, no doubt, but the main benefit mentioned in this video is not how much quicker it is, is the steam function. also, it's the price tag that is a bit ridiculous - I can start the day by turning on the grill of my oven, putting some water in the kettle for my coffee - while the coffee steeps, the boiling water goes with the bread in the oven 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's not too difficult. anyway, like I said, it's not exactly the point of our comment or the video. either way, in my opinion, there is nothing that justifies paying this price tag, and I did not see anything in the video I couldn't do in my regular oven. I love Inga and I watched it just for her, but this oven is ridiculous.

    I eat toast every day so I tried to order this from Amazon Japan. After a few weeks it still hadn't shipped so I ordered a Cuisinart Steam/Convection Toaster oven instead for about half the price! It is bigger, has more functions, and after some experimenting makes amazing toast (just like this one where it is crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle). It also has a large water tank for the steam modes and so there is no messing around with tiny cups or adding water every time I use it!

    I didn’t know this was a thing but I kind of accomplish something similar to either keep the inside of my toast fluffy or to revive stale bread. I just run my hand under the faucet and flick my fingers to get droplets of water on the inside portion of the bread. If I’m reviving stale bread, I repeat that once or twice and focus on both the crust and the inside. This works in both toaster ovens and regular ovens, and I’m sure the same would work in a pan! Maybe try just throwing the water in the pan instead then? Idk I just started doing this after discovering the sear then steam method for dumplings!

    I own both a Balmuda The Toaster as well as the Breville Air Fryer Pro ($399). While the "steam" technology on the Balmuda is real, for the price tag at $329, I would GLADLY give up that "steam" feature for the all in one perfection of my Breville Air Fryer Pro (which also has dehydration as well). I don't work for either companies I just love kitchen gadgets. Balmuda makes a solid product but it is definitely marked up in price for aesthetics (think Fellow and their coffee kettle/storage products (they are great products but are again marked up incredibly for their aesthetics)). I highly recommend any of you folks in the market for a counter top AIO (all-in-one) toaster oven, check out Breville's line of smart toaster ovens before pulling the trigger on the Balmuda.

    When i use my toaster oven for toasting various stuff i usually end up spritzing some water on that food item or running my lap on just a tiny dribble of water and quickly passing it through, and then i toast it. You achieve a similar steam kind of method and it works relatively well as a quick "hack", i particularly recommend it for pizza and tortillas.

    I get a bit leery whenever toaster ovens have a bunch of settings without temperatures (e.g. the pizza, toast etc modes). Why not just have steam and temperature dials...?
    As someone else said, it’d be interesting to compare price points with a 40$ Walmart/general store toaster oven, and the like super expensive $700 Anova precision oven

  • @robinesak7819
    @robinesak7819 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Isn't this just a toaster oven? Is seems to look an awful lot the one sitting on my counter that was about $40. It seems to work the same too.
    We use ours to bake potatoes, do fries, and reheat almost anything... If you live alone or cook for two, it's a must-have but I can't for the life of me figure out why it's $250 more than, like, a toaster oven.

    My mum’s hack was to sprinkle a few drops of water onto the tray before starting to toast any bread/buns/pizza/croissants/bagels... we’d achieve roughly the same effect (crisp outside, moist inside, though maybe not as ‘gourmet perfection’ as described) on our $40 toaster oven and have been doing this since we were kids! I’d even roast broccoli or salmon in the toaster oven for WFH meals for one...

    Surely 90% of the effect here is just having a high-quality, powerful element that can heat up fast, and nothing to do with steam? Getting a crisp, toasty outside and fluffy inside is about having extremely high heat very quickly. The steam would only really be useful for heating through thicker products like pastries and thick cut bread or for defrosting.

    Using a conventional or toaster oven, you can just spray some water into the oven midway into cooking to get a similar effect. Bakers use that trick to get their bread to spring up and rise in the oven. When you want revitalize leftover bread like baguettes, slightly wet the outer crust before reheating in the oven.

  • @NicoSchurr
    @NicoSchurr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really fancy ovens and professional ovens have a steaming option too for this exact reason. If you don't have 300$ lying around, here's how you can replicate it: wet your old baked goods slightly, for example with a spraying bottle or if it's really dry by swiping it under running water and let it absorb the moisture for a second. Then put it into your toaster, toaster oven or conventional oven. If you have an air fryer, it too can help revive stuff like baked goods and chicken nuggets. Put a splash of water in the bowl, put your food in the basket and turn the air fryer on. Now there's some experimentation needed to figure out how much water to use, how long to toast/fry etc. But you'll develop a feeling for it after a few times.
