I've always been a fan of the Super Distortion. A great, big, thick sounding rock and roll pickup. They have a lot of punch and are very open sounding. I love them.
I didn't think the Burstbuckers sounded that bad. But I can see how you like the Super Distortion pups. They are well suited to your playing style. Man, I'd like to see how you would sound with one of those "Virtual Jeff" rigs on that guitar. Badass black on black. You won't have to worry about tuning. I hope all is ok, John...
I’m as impressed that you found a set of 70’s Super Distortions as I am the sound. I’ve always been a super distortion, as a classic hard rock guy. But, those sound especially killer! Btw, I agree with you on the Burstbuckers. I love Gibson pups, but not those. Give me ‘57’s, 498’s, or Custom buckers. Very cool video.
Did your SG come with 330k volume pots? If so did you change them to 500K? the pickups sound good. I'm not a fan of BB's either. I like unpotted PAF's and have made a few of my own. But reason I am watching this video is I am building a replica Dave Murray Iron Maiden strat and am trying to decide on new or old SD's. I always loved his early sound with early SD's in his 57 strat through marshall jmp's for rhythm and the DP103 PAf in the neck for his super creamy lead tone.
I totally get what your saying,,, as far as Gibson pick ups are concerned,,,I have never been a fan,,,but I do have some 57’s that do howler sound great, So with that being said. I have been a faithful Dimarzio fan since hearing Ace playing his famous budakon Les Paul. Super distortion, and the PAF’s do a remarkable Job for make your NUTZ TINGLE in the sound dept! Hope this helps! Great vid, jam on young rocker!
My 2011 Gibson Midtown Custom came with Burstbucker 1 in the neck position and Burstbucker 2 in the bridge & they sound Fantastic_ but you are absolutely right , the Burstbuckers in your SG did Not sound good at all _ but the Dimarzios sound Great_ Vast improvement _!!
The Marshall Origin amps are low gain amps. Even cranked all the way up, my Origin 20 stays pretty much clean when I play single coils into it. I’d say that is the actual reason you were struggling to get distortion with the BurstBuckers more so than the pickups themselves.
sounds legendary with new old dimarzios i like the gibsons as well but totally different character. the dimarzios are open and raw, scream rock. the Gibsons are more mellow and twonky less grit

Every Def Leppard song were recorded with this pickup , even Eddie loved those.
every single one after High 'n' Dry, I believe those were either SD 59's or Dirty Fingers on the earlier albums
@@somedaysometime Thanks !
Those dimarzios sound mean and gritty, and make it look like something straight out of the 70s too

I would definitely go with a modern, wax potted Super Distortion.

Love the videos man. Got my Gadsden flag on the wall, too 😎

Great video. Very informative.
I've been looking to swap the Burstbuckers from my classic to double white super distortions. Those vintage ones look rad in that sg.
I just like the idea of keeping old things in service; it's great that that pair of SDs get to stay in the same guitar.
