There is no "power" meta progression, to alleviate one of your worries. The game opts to offer more options rather than more power, and all runs start from a blank slate! The only exception is you do get to start with a blessing after your first run with a character, but that was done so as to not overwhelm people with options on their first run. Also there are combat speed/animation skip options to make runs a good amount quicker if one is finding them too long. Happy to see you made a video on Astrea! I can't wait for release ahhhh
I remember watching this a year ago or so... An idea about this sort of hit me today: does this still only have d6? I notice how quick players are to start skipping instead of adding more, strategically sensible but less fun. I wonder if it'd be improved by also having the d4, d8, d12, maybe d20 (though that might visually be tricky). The idea behind it is: to Incentivize adding new dies to the pool more: the dies you get from enemies tend to be smaller, while you start with bigger ones. The smaller the die, the better improving a face on it is.
@@Aphid4@ Aphid4 I don't think increasing the number of sides would necessarily make it better. I think more sides could make the game too complex, especially for the enemies. Instead of having roughly 3 to 6 things an enemy could possibly do it could scale up to 5-10 which could be very difficult. Also, I think 1/6th feels like the right probability to actually get the role you want. if the probability were 1/20 (I realize this is the worst case) even with rerolls some of those big hits would never come. It could be okay with different dice but the game would require significant rebalancing.
I dont normally comment on your stuff but I watch a lot of your content. The fact that you're looking forward to this game so much and that its a great game, tells me you should do more videos on it. Playing something you love and a quality game just makes good content no matter what.
This looks great, and having now seen the dev comments confirming meta progression and speedy options, I really hope you're going to enjoy playing it and showing us!
I hate power meta 😢😢😢😢 although on Hades I few it wasnt all bad, maybe because the gameplay is so juicy and good that it doesnt matter much spending the time grinding to get stronger (of course you can win without any upgrades on hades, but im not a pro, im just a normal human hahaahha)
lol - every game he plays is "god tier" or "the most insane game ever". I like him, but don't put him on a pedestal. He understands how the algorithm works and he milks it like every other content creator that is trying to be relevant and stand out.
Dont know how I missed this yesterday! If nothing else, I am super glad to see that the game is coming out soon! Even if you do nothing more on this game, I thank you so much for letting me know that
Wish there were more reviews of this awesome game. I haven't ever picked up a single player deck builder this quickly. It feels incredibly intuitive and each character changes the simple premise so much that i actually enjoy all of them.
Would love a series on this one! I’ve really been looking forward to it. At least a few videos going through all of the characters would be neat, as they are quite varied.
Glad to hear that you are looking forward to play Astrea 😱😱😱 I agree with you, we want more oracles! 🤣🤣🤣 I really want to see Retro playing with all of them and his reaction for each mechanic 😱😱😱
It's such a small detail, but I love that they cleaned up the dialog in the tutorial, compared to a beta version you played a year ago. They cut some dialog that basically just awkwardly repeated "You're an Oracle of Astrea!", "Yes, I'm an Oracle of Astrea," another time. It's a weird thing to nitpick, but the fact that they fixed it shows a great attention to detail.
Really glad that you are liking Astrea 😭😭😭😭 Hope you are right! Astrea is not perfect, but we putted all of our energy and heart into it, hope it will be enough!
@@littleleogames7537 oh the demo already did. Made me use more of my brain than Slay the Spire from the first moments, and a simple but deeeeep mechanical play. Biggest complaint with it is i couldnt play the full version, which is remedied soon!
22:30 "I'll regret that I'm sure". Yes, you will. You'll also decide it was the correct choice for sure. The only question is which will come first, and which will come more often. :)
I saw this day on your channel first I think and waited over a year for it to be released. Please Retro, do a few runs even if it's longer than your usual videos.
Finally got the time to watch your gameplay, was a busy day today! Thanks so much for checking out Astrea and recommending it, it means a lot to us. 😭😭😭😭 Watching you play was super fun. Im glad that you got the hang of it super fast and I already started making a cohesive deck. About the run length, like stormquake said there are options to make the game faster, maybe try it out and see if it matches the length that you need for the youtube videos? Cuz I really hope I can see you playing with the other oracles! Im super curious hahahaha Anyhow if it doesnt work out, no problem, thanks for giving it a try! Hope people will like the game too! The game is absolutely delightful, massive congratulations and thanks for all the developers for this masterpiece! Do you plan to make expansions for the game? The more fun and replayability, the better! Let us throw our money at you! :)
I was about to suggest you give this game another try i recently got into it and its so damn fun and actually fair despite being rng based all because of the unique mechanic where even bad luck gets rewarded, which is the complete opposite in other games like wildfrost where bad luck on a single thing= run is over mostly
Hey Retromation, I love how your videos keep throwing light to indie games and proyects, every time you upload a video I end up downloading a new game haha! Keep it up. I was wondering... are you aware of some tactical game where you got to build a robot with different parts? In the style of old Front Mission Playstation 1 games? I've been looking for something like that for years.
Hiiiii, developer here. We are a small team from Brazil. Macs are super expensive here so we dont have easy access to one. (Only one of our artists have it actually) So it would be super hard to support/debug it 😭😭😭 We prefer postponing the mac release for later when we have a better structure. Sorry for not supporting it 😢😢
The game is good but there's not enough to it, like slay the spire it's just the same three levels over and over but with more options to make it harder each time you win. It's not fun after you beat it the first time, it's just repetitive as hell. After I watched the video at the start of the game I assumed you'd beat one world and move onto the next, but you don't! You just play the underwater world over and over 🙄 I only had to finish it once and now I'm bored with it.

Reto i’ve been watching for over 3 years now and i just want to thank you for all the content you are producing every day. We love you, much love
Even if videos for this end up being 2+ hours I'd watch them, this is a beautiful game and definitely deserves a series!

I'm so proud of the brazilian developers that gave us this gem! Great video as always, Retro!
Concordo, este jogo é divertido, viciante e justo, apesar de ser um jogo de dados baseado na sorte, adoro-o

So many fantastic games out there, so finite an amount of time in the day. If only we could play them all more.

gotta make it clear this one is a banger
@@Retromation i have to say i appreciate the nuances in your titles. Makes it easy to find out what's what within your videos. thx.

Lol my thoughts exactly.
i'd like to add that i definitely trust your title adjective choice too@@Retromation, enough that i get the game before watching the video sometimes

its has been so looooong

thanks for the support
Love to see more of this! Maybe you can split runs into two days? So you put put two 45-min chapters instead of one?
I love that there are more Roguelikes incorporating dice. They add such an element to RNG that it makes it super rep;ayable.
ACTUALLY god tier game holy crap

just love your deck / dicebuilder content @Retromation! You r the best!
I hope we'll see more of this!
Please let there be more gameplay coming of this!!!
It looks like the game got a bit more bearable. I remember trying out the demo months ago and it was BRUTAL in its difficulty.
Yep, we improve the balance!
Now we have 16 difficulty levels.
