Would this buyout also not apply similarly? Wouldn't let's say Dallas have to pay the buyout to USC. Or are they using buyout in terms of guaranteed money?

Leaving Oregon and going to A&M is a huge step down for him. Lanning has a winner in Eugene, and the future is blindingly bright. The new conference next year(big 10) holds a ton of promise for Lanning and the ducks. There is absolutely no sane reason for him to jump ship.
No Texas am is step up from Oregon coming from fsu fan. I was scared they were going to come after norvell he’s a Texas boy too and a&m would a step up money wise from fsu.
He would be dumb to leave Oregon for A&M. A&M is a bigger program, better recruiting base, and it's Texas. But, you can't win at Texas A&M consistently, when Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Tenn is consistently on your schedule.

Florida State won't make the playoffs there not the 4th best team in the country regardless of what the poles say. They struggle with garbage teams and couldn't put away a Miami team that's not good and wasn't playing there best QB. Look at the contract Dan Lanning signed with Oregon. There is a big buyout, after Slick Willy and Mario left for Florida schools.

Jimbo really seemed like he was going to elevate this program the first couple years with what he was doing in recruiting. Unfortunately it was a complete failure at translating it on the field. One thing Aggies have going for them is that Jimbo has left them with an exceptional roster and the right hire could bring rapid change to College Station with what they have right now and what they have on the horizon because there is a ton of talent there.
Or there will be a devastating transfer portal exodus that will drain our talent dry.
Never underestimate the aggies’ ability to muck things up, which I hope continues

Coaches make sooooo much $$ these days you have to wonder how many of them really put in the work that's needed to have a successful program. I can see many of them getting to a point where their minds wander off to enjoying life, going to sandy beaches, travel the world, enjoy their fast cars, etc. Vs the yearly grind of recruiting, boosters, winning games, pressure on the well being of one's body.

I know the roster pretty well…while we have a ton of top 10 players at their position out of HS, I don’t think UGA has 34 5 stars…I think they have a ton of 4 stars that were top 10 players though. Bama and Ohio St have more 5 stars…I think. For every 5 star Kirby gets, he also coaches up a 3 star that nobody wanted(Ladd McKonkey, Jordan Davis, etc).

I'm a 1975 FSU graduate and was really upset with Jimbo Fisher's antics, especially in the few years before he left the university. The constant threats to leave and holding the administration hostage over potential moves to other football programs were really maddening aspects of his tenure. However, I feel I need to moderate my comments when I think about Jimbo's concerns surrounding the health of his son, who has an extremely rare blood disorder which likely will lead to his early death. I believe Jimbo stated at one point he was going to use a percentage of his salary to fund research hoping to find a medical cure and save his son.'s life. That's a partially compelling reason to resist totally dumping on Jimbo and relishing the loss of his job.
The Drink at Mizzou would be a good look for A&M.
Jonathan Smith at Oregon State would be a good choice as he has done a lot with few resources.

I remember when Kirby and Harbaugh had some word about recruiting into each other’s territory so to speak.
Fisher’s buddy Scott Woodward help him to get contract extension. When Woodward was A&M athletic director, he hired Fisher from Florida State with luxury contract. When he moved to LSU athletic directory 3 years ago he interviewed Fisher and acted like he will lure Fisher to LSU. A&M got the bait to give Fisher extension contract with buyout 77M. Aggies should remember this name besides Jimbo Fisher: Scott Woodhward.

As a longhorn, I am happy for my Aggie friends that this embrassment will be behind you shortly. Jimbo recruited at an elite level so the cubboard isn't empty yet. A high level coaches candidate list sounds good too. Lets see what happens as A&M needs a great hire to turn the corner. Weren't too concerned by Jimbo when we go head to head but Lanning or Kiffen would be a different game. Go Gig'em Aggies and make the change. Hopefully we scoop up some recruits, not sure we would want existing players from Jimbos culture. It will change soon.

The whole Fisher thing shows you how screwed up our values are in this country. We pay police and teachers peanuts, but we pay average football coaches eight or nine million dollars a year and guarantee the money no matter how badly they perform. Its insane. A failed coach walks away with 76 million dollars while others with far more important jobs aren't paid enough to buy a small house. Its just nuts. I am a huge college football fan, not a sports hater, but no one with half a brain would be handing out contracts like this. You can say they all do it and you'd be right. And so would I.

Any school that can pay a $76mil buyout is definitely a top tier school. Money is what makes a program. That’s what buys facilities, NiL, stadiums, etc. And a school with those resources (that exists in a fertile recruiting territory like Texas) will eventually, once they stop hiring the wrong people, figure it out. If you don’t think a Kirby Smart at A&M would win then you’re crazy. And if that’s the case then the only reason A&M hasn’t won is they haven’t hired the right guy yet.
You are forgetting that Texas, Texas Tech, TCU and Oklahoma are also in that "fertile recruiting territory". Just a few of the schools a top tier recruit would rather play for.
