Thoughts on the Toyota 86 2017? Planning on buying one brand new in a couple days, getting a really nice deal on it, thought fun plus good gas mileage, why not
Thats the reason i never did work at a dealer, warranty is a complete ripoff for the mechanic, dealers love it though, because it sells cars. But at the cost of the mechanic, who is already underpaid. Ive been in the field 15 years, haven't maid any $, and im getting out of it. Its not worth it.
talks about the crv for less than 2 mins and talks about something else for the rest of the video but still puts the title as the thing thats least talked about
Yep! WHAT IS the “truth” about the CRV “problems”. In your short skit about Honda and the CRV, you made it look like Honda is crap now. What do you have against Honda?
Those edited inserts are getting more and more entertaining as this series goes on. Also, the ls1 is a great engine. I'd like to put one in a car some day.
gangstalishis oh god we’ve had plenty of Honda’s. But our latest Honda was a 2018 Honda CRV. Well, that was more of my grandpas car. For me it be a 2015 Honda Pilot. Automatic of course, the only reason we traded it in for a 16 scienna was because we needed a bigger vehicle. We would have gone for the Odyssey but that didn’t come in AWD.
We got my wife a used 2013 Honda CR-V 2 years ago she has put 30,000 miles on it since then. It has 93,000 total miles now and (knock on wood) we haven’t had any issues with it. We have done is basic maintenance, oil changes, brakes and a transmission flush. We bought a extended warranty on it when we got it, I think it’s still under warranty for another 20,000 miles. She’s been really happy with it so far.
You are good with that one, that's right in the middle of the 5th gen which is extremely reliable, it's the 6th gen (2017 and up) that are having issues.
2017 and up are the 5th gens. I have one. It's absolutely fine. Some are complaining about an oil/gas dilution problem with it being direct injected. I haven't had that problem in the past year that I've owned it, but I suppose there are a few bad ones out of the factory. Probably made on a Mon or Fri.
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv lies my girl brought a 2017 crv touring and it's still running smooth at 32,000 miles on it. Idk how people mess up a honda in the first place. My guess is that it's random people trying to scared Honda customers from buying more. And if I'm not mistaken I believed Scotty said they were more reliable then a Toyota. And Toyotas are pretty much unbreakable as well.
One person has one small problem with a CRV and you make the title seem like all new CRVs have problems? That's not fair at all. So if a person gets lucky and owns a Chrysler with little to 0 issues, that means it's one of the the most reliable car companies out there?
Love my Honda’s. 2005 Accord with 45k miles on it, no problems. 2006 Accord with 150k miles and not a single problem. I had a 2006 Odyssey van not a single problem 200k miles, I had to sell it because the tires were too expensive. Now I have a 2017 Pilot Elite hasn’t had any problems yet and I have a 2013 Accord Touring and no problems and my 2017 CRV Touring also has no problems. Also my 2008 Acura TL is amazing. Had a 1994 Civic DX and that had no problems. Honda’s are good for me!
Scotty, what are you talking about? A Honda Dealership doing warranty work on the CRV, sends the invoice to Honda USA, and they pay the dealership back. Why would a dealership avoid warranty work?
Sorry Days, I would read the terms and conditions of your extended warranty. I used to work at Honda, and I don't remember a Honda factory warranty that offered life time bumper to bumper coverage. What you probably have here is a third party limited powertrain lifetime warranty. This warranty is non-transferable and will only cover you if you take your Odyssey to the dealership where you purchased it. A Honda factory warranty covers you in all 50 States and Canada.
Scotty I have a great amount of respect for you and what you do, as one mechanic to another, and I am a certified Honda technician and I have to say from what I have seen ...yes Honda’s have they’re own sets of issues but what car doesn’t ? I have to say that Honda’s make some great cars and unlike Toyota, Honda still keeps the manual transmission alive , that’s my favorite thing about Honda , I think the new type r is a great car that attracts many enthusiasts out there as well
Barely. I'm trying to get into a manual and it's not easy. The 19 Civics just came out and you can no longer get the EX in manual. Currently, the Accord sport is the only trim for manual. I suspect they'll do away with that as well when the 19s come out. And seeing a manual on the lot? Good luck, dealer always claims they don't have one. Honda doesn't have much bragging rights in the manual department when they're gradually fading them out.
We use to have an 80s accord, blue interior how about that lol. 86 prelude. Great cars with Honda. 2015 civic all services completed by Honda dealership, transmission total failure at 70k Honda is on a downswing, to bad but it is what it is
Hey bro I’m currently shopping for a 2017 CR-V touring and I found one with 81k miles. Should I consider downgrading trim to an LX to get the NA engine? I live in the Bay Area would the oil dilution issue be a problem out here? Is that an extreme weather issue?
I'm happy with my 2017 crv touring. 25k miles and not a single problem. Traded my 09 crv with 155k also with no problems. Dont know what you mean by Honda's reliability going down
@@biggzcorey no problem doing so as long as you keep up with the oil/fluid changes and also if your not in the salt belt area. Those engines are damn near bulletproof. The transmissions on those are good also
Had a 2004 CR-V and have a 2011 CR-V. I miss the old one despite the newer one having better grip and being a tad quicker. The 04 only broke once in ten years with some transmission timing chip. Unfortunately it got totaled by another driver hitting it in the side. Now the 2011 one has thin plastic all over, a lot of squeaks and rattles, and missing a bunch of lug nut covers. Only to mention its a 12 year old design. It’s just not the same for what’s expected of Honda.
I have had 3 Hondas since 1986. A CRX , Element and a Pilot. I have never had 1 single problem except for an oxygen sensor on my Element. I will always drive a Honda and why wouldn’t I??
They're still more reliable than most cars today I had a friend that had a 2005 Accord with a 110k ran like a tank, he sold that car for Volkswagen Jetta, in my opinion that's a big mistake because that Jetta broke down like 6 times on him now he wants to go back to Honda
Just wondering how many of you with a late model CRV with the 1.5 L turbo have oil dilution problem (ie gas gets into the engine oil). I've heard it can be an issue with this engine. Interestingly, I also heard it doesn't seem to affect the Civic (essentially same engine, but slightly different turbo?) At least the horsepower rating on the Civic and CRV appear different.
I've five grand prixs and the have all had well over 200,000 miles. 1 had 265,xxx when it got totaled, another had 272,xxx when we sold it, 1 had 224,xxx when we sold it, 1 had 255,xxx when we traded it, and my current one has 231,xxx and all were 3800 v6s
I was going to buy a Honda CR-V 2014 and I lifted up the cargo space where the spare tire is and it had a inch or so of water...I then looked up on web and saw those CR-V are plagued with leaks back on that area ... thankful I looked back in that place
I agree, Toyotas new styling is gaudy and I absolutely hate it. I loved their understated classy designs of the early 2000s but people called boring for some stupid reason
We’re keeping our 2010 Lexus ES until Lexus gets its act together. Lol. But honestly, it was the safety that really sold us. The CR-V is years ahead of the current RAV4 and we live in drunk driver heaven.
We have the new turbo CRV too. Ours has been fine, but some have complained of a gas/oil dilution issue with the direct injection. Just watch your oil levels.
While some dealerships may avoid warranty work, it isnt because they dont want to do it, it is because some dealers have techs that dont know what they are doing. I receive the same door rate for warranty as customer pay and i dont even have to sell it. We just fix it and get paid. Why would i not want to do it? If your dealership is avoiding warranty work, it is because of poor management. Btw, this vid didnt explain anything about the new CRV. The worst thing about the new CRV is the driving support system. Other than that, they are great.
Kyle Bales I just bought a 2018 LX with the 2.4. The only thing I’m worried about is the cvt. I just don’t know the life of those. I expect it to last the life of the car though.
Saying Honda’s quality has gone way down just makes you sound like you’re a Toyota fanboy that’s full of it. Just because 3 customers of yours had reliability issues with their Honda’s doesn’t mean their quality is nowhere near as good as Toyota’s.
Tjay B from what I recall, Honda’s from the 80’s and 90’s were known for blowing head gaskets. So a company making a permanent fix to issues like head gaskets for example shouldn’t mean their quality has dropped.
Jr ALEXANDER that’s what I’m saying. Sing Toyota’s praises all “you” want, their cars have a bunch of gadgets and gizmos like everybody else that are going to cause electronic issues in the future. There’s no way around it. As much he hates Chrysler and loves Toyota, you can find scores of people online who’ve had many issues with their Toyota/Honda/etc and hate them now because of it.
We bought a 2018 Honda CR-V EX and within weeks we found out that it had oil dilution. The fuel would get into the oil and thin it out. Honda claimed it was normal but a mechanic told us that it would eventually tear up the engine. It also had electrical problems with the infotainment screen and the instrument cluster screen.
Nothing not even toyota is made as well as before. In order to get better mileage all cars use lighter components that sadly are also weaker. Everything is more complex, more things to break. For example we have transmissions with more gears. You can get better gas mileage and acceleration but its weaker. Toyota transmission aren't stronger, there engines are torque deprived and can't break the transmission.
@@Dragon_Gaming2020 agree. I was referring to cars. Trucks are usually heavier duty. However trucks also aren't as good quality from years ago. Sometimes it's not only the big components but small sub parta. Metal replaced by plastic or resin etc.
@@geebee6010 That is the automotive manufacturer objective, to turn everyone into a steady income stream. Before, they had planned obsolescence and they expected cars to last around 12 years. Now they have too expensive to repair at 3 years to five years.T
Don't forget the water-thin 0w-16 and 0w-20 motor oils they use to bump up the gas mileage by half a percent. Sure, you might get a couple more miles per tank but at what cost? The United States has basically become a proving ground for shitty, fuel efficient cars before they ship them to the rest of the world. They experiment with these technologies on us first...and if it works, great! God knows Europe wouldn't stand for it.
When CR-Vs were built in Japan in the past, they were very very reliable vehicles but they are not as reliable as they were ever since they got started being built elsewhere.
i dont use that econ mode on my 2016 accord i like having all the power i can get all the time plus i dont see a big difference in fuel consumption, and yes it messes with the ac.
My '08 Pilot has been running great for about 10 years. Bought my daughter an 2013 Civic which she loves and I'm hoping lasts just as long with no major issues.
I bought one for $17,127 new out the door with the 1.4 liter manual. I get 34 mpg, have 8,500 miles on it so far, no problems. BUT, I do believe what Scotty says is the truth, I am worried about reliability because it is a fiat Chrysler product and turbo charged. I am considering keeping it to just before the warranty runs out. And I have considered keeping it since I'm getting 34 mpg!
scotty you didnt even mention the HUGE problem regarding the 1.5L turbos that Honda so far refuses to recall in north america! 350,000 recalled in china!
I own a 2017 Honda CRV. It now has 21k miles on it. And I haven't had any issues as of yet. Knock on wood🚪 that doesn't change. It's a great car best in its class I think. Considering the features and price.
@@Erick1993able CRV is running great. Now it has 65K. Had the battery go bad last year is about it. But I have not regretted purchasing it. Still definitely recommend.
my dad is a die hard Toyota guy and a mechanic, much like you. He has had every celica, a bunch of Camry's through the years, two previa vans, and he loves his 2001 Sienna van so much that he bought one with lower mileage to replace his other one and nothing was wrong with it. But, when we were looking to buy a brand new vehicle, my dad test drove the 14 rav4 at the time and didn't look back at it. He bought a 14 crv. I have driven both and honestly the rav4 reminds me of a gm in the way it sounds and drives. The Honda was so smooth, quiet, and what I expect out of a Japanese motor. My mom still has her 2003 Camry though - running strong. And I personally had a celica as my first car (2002), then a 2009 Honda Accord coupe (great car), and now I have a 2009 Acura TSX with a 6spd. I think Toyota and Honda both make great products, but truthfully there is something about the newer vehicles that are lacking from the old - unless they are made directly in Japan like my TSX, in which case I actually feel like it was produced better (though this could be a psychological thing). Being as I am a college kid, and my dad is my mechanic I am only stuck with Toyota or honda when I am in the position to car shop. Unless I go Lexus (which I really want to do because the 3IS is so sexy), the Honda's come in with almost on par reliability with a less steep sticker price and the cars are actually designed a little less boring. As of lately though, the new Toyota's are changing that perception.
Our 2017 CRV just had a major computer issue. Fortunately we were 1500 miles before warranty expired. If not, would have had to fork over 900 for repair. Thats way too soon in my book. Honda's in our driveway since 2001with few serious problems otherwise.
Thank God my mom and dad decided to get the 2016, they test drove the 2017 and they didn't like the digital dash nor the fact it had a turbo. The 2016 didn't have turbo, had a analog dash, and was cheaper which is why they went with it.
Just a FYI Mr.Kilmer I work for Honda and the truth about Honda Dealers not wanting to find something wrong until it’s out of warranty is BOGUS. That’s the old school way of thinking and how things used to be ..... maybe? I love listening and watching to your channels, but make sure you feed them correct information. A dealership is not making money unless they are replacing a part on a customers car, wether the customer or Honda is footing the bill. As a tech you want to get paid to chase down a problem, when they are paid flat rate/ not hourly, they don’t care who’s footing the bill. Carry on and I’ll continue to watch your videos good sir!
I’m shocked a lot of people are defending Honda and calling out Toyota and Scotty’s bias toward Toyota. I think Honda’s quality is an eh for 2017, 2018 maybe they can change for 2019, I mean I owned a 1993 Civic, 1996,97 Accord, 2001 Prelude, 2004 Civic, two Pilots from 2005, 2009 Fit,2009 Civic, 2012 Accord, 2015 Cr-v, 2017 Cr-v, 2017 Accord, and a bunch of other Honda engines motorcycle, lawn mower, power washer, etc and I never had a single problem with any of them they all run fine today just great reliability kept me coming back 😃
Agreed. I got the 17 CRV turbo because my 97 Prelude SH is still running fine to this day. Both 1st yr models with lots more complicated tech than the previous. Loved my old Fit and Civics too.
Lol yes I also have a 2017 Honda CRV well my girl does and she has put 32,000 miles on it. And I have to say we love how amazing it feels and drives over bumps and corners. But then again I also have a Toyota 86 gt 2018 in the other hand I also have a 2013 Honda civic. So I love both Hondas and Toyotas.
@@Stockman22 I like my wife's Rengade so I bought one for myself. I have had many cars BMW the worst, Volvo ok, Toyota good, and Jeeps and now Renegade that I consider greatly undervalued car, after the bugs at 2015 model, go with 2019 or later. At 20k best car for the money at 25-28 you can check other cars, VW a good bet.
As a big Honda and Toyota lover and a mechanic. I completely agree. The early 90s were Toyota and Honda’s glory days both had very very good engines in both reliability and power per liter. Now both have being going down hill Toyota has even just about given up even making there own engines. Sad really.
Scotty, i have a Dodge Dakota 4.7 liter with 235K and runs and shifts like new, this is just insane, it's not supposed to happen with Chrysler products, and everyone hates this engine. I can't even find another person with a 4.7 with more miles on it that still runs well at all.
It depends on how you take care of it.. I used to have a 94 Chrysler minivan with the 3.3L and I put over 200K on that with no issues because i changed oil every 2K and transmission every 10K. I plan on doing same with my 16 Honda Pilot I just bought.
Honda is way more bleeding edge than Toyota. Toyota always stick with what is tried and proven while Honda is always trying to be on the cutting edge, and the reason why most of their newer models are always plagued with numerous problems and recalls.
That is correct. People always complaining about Toyota cars outdated. Heck, it is the reason why their cars are reliable. Made simple using proven technologies. I don't want eco boost, sky-active, or any of that if they aren't reliable. People don't understand. They look for the wrong cars and then expect them to be certain ways. Even modern Toyota cars aren't that reliable, let alone other brand cars.
Hmmm.. have had numerous Honda's, no issues at all. Even had a 1998 Accord with 267K miles, drove almost like brand new when I sold it, but no problems ever. Now I have a 2014 Accord V6, 90k miles and drives like brand new, and no problems whatsoever. Not sure what you're talking about Scotty! I've owned 4 Toyota's, 2 of them Celicas. Had major problems with those. My RAV4 was good. But the interior trim on my Avalon would keep falling apart.
I'm going to disagree about your quality comment on Hondas and Acuras. K series is arguably the best 4 cylinder on a planet for reliability. I have a 2015 Honda Odyssey that I bought brand new with 77000 completely trouble free miles. Of course I bought the one with the Honda 6 Speed and not the ZF... And I got a traditional engine without direct injection... Only time will tell how those turbo direct injection ones hold up. Oh wait I did have a problem I had to replace my gas cap. Weird.
John Steele hes not talking about the k or j series(that continuously keep all cylinders running) motors. He's talking about the turbos, direct injections, some of the transmissions, and new iffy cvt trans they are putting in their new lines
I bought a 1994 Ford Explorer XLT 5-door with 130k on the odometer and run's great. I bought it at an auction for $800 and was a dealer trade-in which was wholesaled.
scotty is like a car priest , love watching his videos , I have never seen a mechanic that's as brutally honest as Mr Kilmer. I agree with you Scotty , I own a Honda and my wife owns a Toyota and trust me Honda's are not as reliable as how they used to be , and I think they are only selling their cars based on their previous record of making cheap reliable cars.
Come on Scotty.. one minute your pro Honda and next your not.. I owned 3 crvs and loved every one of them.. I own a newer 15 ex model and it's got 31k of problem free miles.. It's just like the saying goes you take care of it.. it will take care of you. I see more crvs on the roads these days than Toyota RAV4....What's that tell ya.. Honda makes the best vehicles period... Rev up your Honda Crvs..
2018 CR-V Touring 2018 here, I had the same A/C issue on March 2018, Honda dealership solved it the same appointment day. No issues of anything after that.
Scotty, I have a 1997 and a 2017 Honda CRV. I’m aware of the problems with the 2017 and plan to trade it in for a Tacoma. My question is, how do I keep my 1997 Honda CRV, with 148,000 miles, running for another 22 years? The only problem I’ve had so far was the need for a new distributor. Thanks - you’re a hoot.
C S True on that, I’m done & done with American Automobiles. They still haven’t caught up with the Japanese Auto makers yet. Way to keen on making that fast dollar. Quality is Job Last place.
I'm a firm believer in Honda and Nissan. It's all in how u take care of a car. My Mama's first car was a 1988 Nissan Sentra with an automatic transmission. Everything still original in it and I still drive it Cause she used OEM parts on it and my dad is just as smart as Scotty kilmer when it comes to working on cars and most the time of ur Honda or Nissan is on the fritz it's either ur mechanic is out for dollar bills or u failed to do the precautions to keep the problem.from happening. To me quality of all cars has went down cause they put more effort in the electronics in the car than the actual car it self. But that's just my opinion.
Honda’s are great cars. About that AC issue, most likely it is problem regarding an AC gas leak on the condenser or evaporator. You gotta bring it to the dealership and let them keep checking and have them solve the issue. They’re not gonna cheat you on warranty, they lose nothing on that. They only lose a little on labor hours but it is still business for them. AC is just a vast system that requires a certain type of process to follow in order to figure out where the problem is coming from. If AC gas there is no AC gas then the entire AC system parts will remain idle and you won’t know which one is defective until the gas is filled. And there are 2 types of Gas leak. 1. Minor Leak - may take 3-8 weeks til the leak is visible and figure out which part is leaking. (Which may require you to drive for some time until it stops cooling again. 2. Major Leak - this is the part where it would be easy to detect. May take within a day. It is inconvenience but thats the way it is. Also, BTW, a dye is to be filled along with the gas in order to start the process of diagnosing. The dealer may be stalling for time if they can’t figure it out on at least your 3rd visit for the same complaint.
Scotty, I want to get a Lexus SUV like RX 350 or NX 200 or small car like IS250. What do you think about those models. The new one are kind of expensive. Do you recommend used Lexus like 3 to 5 years old ??
Not all Honda's are reliable. That's like saying all fruit from Florida is sweet. You can have bad models that have issues. Search Car Complaints and you'll see what years/models to avoid. Don't let Honda Salesmen tell you it's good just because of the brand name, you're not a fool.
He is so right about how Honda went down over the years and people still think Hyundai’s/Kia are crap but no Honda is and the Korean cars are in the top spots for reliability and dependably
Toyota has way more problems than Honda nowadays. Honda builds one of the most reliable cars on the planet. Add all Toyota safety recalls on top of that.
There is a big class action against Honda right now about Oil Dilution in turbo charger engine especially in China the government ban the sale of Honda CR-V
I can't agree. I own a Toyota pickup and yes, it runs forever. But I have also had three Honda cars during the same period. One was a 2014 CRV. The only problem I have had other than brakes and shocks, etc has been on the Toyota. It is a 94 with the R22E engine and automatic transmission. At 58,000 miles, it would not shift out of 2nd gear properly. Sometimes it wouldn't shift at all. When I took it to the dealership they said the part wasn't available anywhere in the USA and had to send to Japan for it. After they got the part, it was a quick fix but I had to rent a car for about ten days. My three Hondas were a Civic, an Accord and a CRV. I have done nothing but change oil and replace tires. On the 2016 Accord, there was a recall to reprogram the transmission but that was a 20 minute fix. That is it. If someone is having problems with any Honda, I'm surprised because you never see any cars in the service department, just the express service. People want totalk about problems, they should ask me about the chevy S-10 I bought new in 1989. It was beyond bad.
Your problem with your Toyota was buying a Tacoma with an automatic transmission LOL...I bet that thing is pretty sluggish? Even my 94 4Runner with the 3L V6 and manual tranny was a POS that thing couldn't get out of its own way...funny seems the 22RE with a manual had more ooommmppphhh than those V6 engines and automatics :(.
You need to read up on the Honda civic cracked block issues. Sounds like every civic made for a number of years block will crack due to bad design and manufacture. For this reason I would not think about buying a civic
It will leave you stranded and it never should have made it out of the factory. Bad quality control. The only reason why they cover them is there was many lawsuits against them for it
I def. agree with you Scotty. As a first generation CRV owner, I bought 4th generation without thinking or research. Boy do I regret it! I will never buy Honda again!!!!!!!! My next car will be Hyundai. Don't buy 4th generation CRV and early Honda van Odyessy. They have engine and transmission problem.
Sorry Scotty, but I have to say you are not correct this time. If you look at the number of Toyota recalls in the past few years, compared to Honda, your mind!
1997 civic cx 254k miles only one issue. Had a miss on cyl 3, replaced the distributor cap and it run great. That was about 30000 miles ago. I'll always buy honda. And toyota and Honda are still neck and neck.
Hey Scotty. What do you think of the Impala since their redesign a few years back? Also curious about your experience with the Solara. Any opinions on it? Thanks!
I agree about Honda I had a 82 Prelude, my mechanic loved to work on it, very easy to fix and it had an engine oil cooler. It also had a beautiful interior everyone who rode in it would comment about it.
I had a 89 prelude something happened to the engine i think it overheated due to cooling fan failure. The car was great but engine was definitely not very powerful even before overheating
The AC compressor failures in CRV's dates back to the early 2nd gens. Just google it and look at the class action lawsuits. I am amazed they still have this problem.
I had an 02 WX CRV. It provided well over 250K miles with no problems other than an and AC compressor that simply exploded. at about 45K miles. The car was still under warranty (extended) but it still cost me nearly $500 to replace it. I have since had two other CRVs, a 200 EX L and a 2017 EXL tjat I just traded on a 2019 Outback Limited. What worried me was the engine oil dilution problem and the road noise level was bothersome as I have a pretty significant hearing loss. I asked the Honda service manager about the oil dilution problems but he acted like he had never heard of it. That pretty well settled the issue for me and was the main reason for switching to the Outback with the benefit of a much quieter ride.
It’s just getting warmed up, I owned a 2002 Honda Accord, best car I have ever owned. Transmission fluid change every 30,000 and oil changes every 3000. Had 200,000 and running strong when it was totaled in a car accident.
Same issue, 2019 CRV (30,000 miles) and the AC has random issues with the blower motor not working. Seems to be the control unit. Been into the dealer twice already and bringing it back again tomorrow.
Its 2017 honda of course its gonna have issues, its practically new, seriously I think everyone who buys last or current year cars are just guinea pigs for automakers to figure out kinks to make it better. Car companies experiment with cheaper parts on newer cars to lower cost, if they fail, hopefully it's still under warranty otherwise your wallet is on the line. I always buy older cars, typically atleast 5 years because by then they have most of the kinks figured out and if anything did go wrong before those 5 years I'm not the one paying. But in reality there will be issues eventually in that timespan of 5 years but a brand new car is just asking for trouble
That's generally true, but I bought a 97 Prelude SH and a 2017 CRV turbo - both first year models with lots of new complicated tech. I haven't had trouble with either of them and I'm still driving the 20+ YO Prelude to this day. Practically all original factory parts with not one major repair and only consumables needed. Vtec and torque vectoring still work fine. Don't know how well AWD DI Turbo CVT with tons of active safety aids will hold up in 20 yrs, but the CRV has been fine for over a year now.
Lol I know you are joking about the 2017 Honda crv having issues :). My girl has one with 32,000 miles on it and she has miss treated the heck out of that car. But it still runs smooth with no problems. It's a damn Honda to be honest if you break a Honda in the first place you have issues yourself.
@@Phrancis5 yea, I've never owned a prelude but heard good things about them. Sucks they stopped making them. About the CVT I think honda makes better cvt transmissions then competitors. My parents have owned a 2014 accord cvt, it's going into its 5th year and it's about to hit 100,000km. It still works like the way they bought it. We changed the cvt fluid at 60,000 and I believe that's what will keep it healthy
Hey Scotty, just wanted to Thank You for helping out with my question. With this hurricane here in NC it's been a little crazy, just got power back on yesterday. Thanks again my friend. 👍👍
Scotty my daughter bought a new Honda 2016 Civic, set her back $30K she pays $330 / mo for she wanted a safe reliable car to commute with but back during the July 4th weekend she had it in for routine service and asked to check the A/C because it didn't seem to be cold. They first told her that a rock hit the condenser and put a hole in it and would be $600 to fix. She asked how much the part was they said about150. I told her to bring the car over so I could check it. Turns out there was no hole at all so she took to another dealer after talking to corporate and they checked it out and said that both the compressor and condenser were leaking and they would split it with her 50/50 it would cost her $850 + And it's one with the 1234YF refrigerant. Do you know of any class action suit she wants to get into? Also her milage was about 65K. Thanks Lou
Scotties little softies--When a title states "Truth about Honda CRV" may stay on topic or just change the title to "Scotie rambling on about anything that comes into his mind
I have a 2003 ex civic 5 speed 142k and a crv 2005 124k too. Never had a problem with them. I have friends with the new CRVs and i never hear about that type of problem. But i guests every situation is different.
I don't know, I have been quite satisfied with my 2004 CRV Generations one through three are really good. But I am not sure about the newer one never have driven one not a huge fan of the earth dreams series of engines they happened to get one with an issue. I would bring this issue to the attention of Honda corporate screw the dealer go over their head Honda of America will make it right. I do really like my father's 2006 Element, it's basically a crv with a different body. But I will take a crv over a rav4 any day and Honda's quality isn't what you say Scotty all you need to do is look at the resale prices for Honda vehicles and I have never had a problem with any of them. Now my sister had a mid 90's Toyota Camry which was a P.O.S I definitely am not a big fan of "Oh what a feeling." Scotty I know you're a Toyota fanboy but I'll take a Honda any day over a Toyota.
The older Dodge Cummins pickups have fewer smog devices to fail. I still have my old Dodge diesel. Scotty's advice on the Seafoam power steering aditive solved the problem I was having with mine. Thank you Scotty!
Scotty I have a 2007 Xterra 215,000 Miles with a really tiny head gasket leak. Do you recommend using Steel seal or will it gel up inside my engine and cause problems?
Also if you do replace the head make sure to replace the radiator as well if you haven't done so or bypassed it, these cars suffer pink milkshake (coolant and transmission fluid mixing) and that's another $7k repair bill waiting to happen...
Scotty, I got a 2001 xj Jeep. Should I Keep investing on it. I know it is a really good car, but It is hard to find a really good mechanic here in El Salvador. Tks for your feedfack. Greatful of your answer. Take care

Thoughts on the Toyota 86 2017? Planning on buying one brand new in a couple days, getting a really nice deal on it, thought fun plus good gas mileage, why not
Scotty, what do u think about a Versa? Nissan.
Hey Scotty are there any long term problems that can arise by driving on econ mode all the time I'm doing that on my 2018 civic lx
You are absolutely correct about warranty work. Dealerships avoid it like the plague, and they have their avoidance techniques down to an art form.
We're sorry we can't duplicate the problem. You're vehicle is fine😏😏
Correct. I work for a certain dealership and warranty work is avoided like the plague. Cannot duplicate customers concern. Ship it.
Intermittent problems are THE Worst!
You'll have to ride them. Call corporate, work those channels.
Document, film, photo the issues every step.
I sell gm cars we pretty much warranty everything if the customer has a issue.
Whoever adds the photo additions to your videos needs a raise.

No kidding!!! Still laughing about the comment "you got the fancy one" with regard to the G8, then that model is seen!! 😆

What if he does it himself
I always wondered if Scotty does all his editing.
talks about the crv for less than 2 mins and talks about something else for the rest of the video but still puts the title as the thing thats least talked about
Yep!
WHAT IS the “truth” about the CRV “problems”.
In your short skit about Honda and the CRV, you made it look like Honda is crap now. What do you have against Honda?
unlike most videos on youtube,at least he gets to the topic listed on the title right away!
Doesn’t matter, no one gives the truth like Scotty, listen, learn and save.
Ok? He still talked about it 😂 so stupid
I own a 2019 honda crv w/the 2.4 motor and i need to know whether it uses a timing chain or belt?.
My 2002 Honda CRV has 250,000 miles still runs great no major issues with it
Same here ,just maintenance
Those edited inserts are getting more and more entertaining as this series goes on.
Also, the ls1 is a great engine.
I'd like to put one in a car some day.
Honda 💯
All of my Honda’s have been pure flawless. Oil changes & tire rotation is it.
I don’t know about this. Every car we’ve owned (Toyota, Honda, Mazda, etc) our Honda’s where the only ones that had no problems.
Dominik W exactly
HONDA with a manual shift
..may be better than Scotty's beloved Toyota....shhhhh not too loud
What model/year was the Honda? Was it manual or automatic?
gangstalishis oh god we’ve had plenty of Honda’s.
Scotty is biased agaisnt anything that isn't a toyota, i had a 2011 Land cruiser and gave me a lot of problems
Do you get water etching on the inside borders of the front headlight lenses?
Bryan C wait till it has a problem.
My 2016 CR-V at over 60k miles has had “No” major issues...just regular routine maintenance. I am a proud Honda owner!
You're due for a transmission drain and fill and start saving for a new timing belt in a couple years.
@@deasttn it doesn't have a timing belt. It has a chain
Compared to the modern SUV competition, the CR-V is super reliable.
One person has one small problem with a CRV and you make the title seem like all new CRVs have problems? That's not fair at all. So if a person gets lucky and owns a Chrysler with little to 0 issues, that means it's one of the the most reliable car companies out there?
If the Honda dealership will not work with you, try contacting the district manager. You may get better results.
My 2013 Honda Accord that I bought new has been perfect besides the battery needing to be replaced a month ago
Nothing wrong with Hondas. All manufacturers have issues from time to time, yep even Toyotas.
Scotty just pissed that most hondas have factory turbos now
Just have to find a good dealer that knows what they're doing.
Juggalo University sounds like their gonna be a pain after 100k miles
Scotty like toyota better then honda.... Not a raison to say BS about them
He's CONSTANTLY praising Toyota lol, not surprised by this take.
Dude you just freaking rambled and said nothing about the CR-V come on Scotty
Yea. I expected a reaction to my CR-V experience and got nothing.
He has a full video about it
Alexis Mol-Hdz where?
First we had distracted driving. Now we have distracted talking. Scotty gets distracted by his waving arms and hands and loses concentration.
Every time....
Why the hell do you need 6 cars? Lol
Jesse I have a large family
Oddisey second gen notoriously unreliable automatic transmission
How'd you only put 45k on a car from 2005? Lend it to me?
trianggaindra lukmana my touring had absolutely no problems with the trans
I bought a 2018 CR-V no issues, great vihicle.
Do you still have this car? Any issues if so??
Scotty, what are you talking about? A Honda Dealership doing warranty work on the CRV, sends the invoice to Honda USA, and they pay the dealership back. Why would a dealership avoid warranty work?
Ikr. That's an odd claim from Scotty
Better not be case I paid 1500 extra at dealership for lifetime bumper to bumper warranty, 2016 Odyssey exl bought new 44k on it. So far, it's great
Sorry Days, I would read the terms and conditions of your extended warranty.
@@sorrydays3865 i would call and cancel ,not worth because they will not fully honor it
@@TheFlorida701 that was 2 years ago I doubt I get a refund
2015 civic all services completed by Honda dealership, transmission total failure at 70k Honda is on a downswing, to bad but it is what it is
What year CRV and odyssey are problem free? Should be 2005 or newer
Dont know what you mean by Honda's reliability going down
Lol same our 2017 Honda CRV touring has 32,000 miles on it and runs smooth too no problems at all.
I was lucky enought to find a 2009 CRV with only 26k miles on it, no problems so far, i'm hoping to put 200k on it.
@@biggzcorey no problem doing so as long as you keep up with the oil/fluid changes and also if your not in the salt belt area. Those engines are damn near bulletproof. The transmissions on those are good also
@@bb65346
No, I live in Dallas, no problem with salt here.
he meant toyota has problems...
Same there are less and less dealers in my area..
They're still more reliable than most cars today I had a friend that had a 2005 Accord with a 110k ran like a tank, he sold that car for Volkswagen Jetta, in my opinion that's a big mistake because that Jetta broke down like 6 times on him now he wants to go back to Honda
You are a Honda Fan boy, that's ok, nothing wrong with it, if you want to pay more, that's ok too. Enjoy!
I have a 2009 CRV and I have had ZERO problems with it.
Not only Honda sir Same issues with Toyota and all automaker these days. All peace of 🤬
Now they are making cars to throw away
Yep that's why I'm going to keep my 2000 4runner for as long as possible. 1990s Toyota is the best (this gen started in 1995 ended in 2002)
yeah I have a 1999 Chevy prizm(5SPD) with over 300 K miles on original engine.
Readin Medrano Toyota/Lexus is much much better
Wade H I had a 2016 Lexus IS and the computer kept freezing on me.
Carol Schapker right? When he said Pontiacs were bad it made me question his experience considering 3800 motors are one of the best V6 motor made.
Erick Johnson Yes, that's what I thought I don't know why he would say something like that
Love these video's and of course the the back ground pictures.
I was going to buy a Honda CR-V 2014 and I lifted up the cargo space where the spare tire is and it had a inch or so of water...I then looked up on web and saw those CR-V are plagued with leaks back on that area ... thankful I looked back in that place
Uh oh...I just got a new CR-V. I just hated everything Lexus and Toyota have done recently. Here's hoping!
The toyota rav4 still looks miles better then hondas bland styling yes im talking sbout you honda pilot
We have the new turbo CRV too. Ours has been fine, but some have complained of a gas/oil dilution issue with the direct injection. Just watch your oil levels.
Same have a 2017 Honda CRV with 32,000 miles on it and it still runs amazing no problems what's so ever.
Well I mean what do you expect? The guy likes his Toyota.
Evan Nadeau that’s why he says from my experience
Tjay B from what I recall, Honda’s from the 80’s and 90’s were known for blowing head gaskets. So a company making a permanent fix to issues like head gaskets for example shouldn’t mean their quality has dropped.
Hondas suck more now.Turbos means just more crap to fail .
Love to see how long those engines last.
Scotty you are brutally honest 👍
Yea he is....kinda the point.
or bias?
I have a 2013 CRV. Recently runs 32mpg highway. Smooth and no issues
That’s why I lease these new cars. They’re not worth owning and not to mention all the technology in these vehicles now a days.
@@geebee6010 That is the automotive manufacturer objective, to turn everyone into a steady income stream. Before, they had planned obsolescence and they expected cars to last around 12 years. Now they have too expensive to repair at 3 years to five years.T
Agree. A lot of the changes to cars are due to government gas mileage requirements.
Had the same a/c problems with 2017 CRV. Think part of it was the ECON mode, when it's on, it cycles on and off the A/C to save gas.
i dont use that econ mode on my 2016 accord i like having all the power i can get all the time plus i dont see a big difference in fuel consumption, and yes it messes with the ac.
My '08 Pilot has been running great for about 10 years. Bought my daughter an 2013 Civic which she loves and I'm hoping lasts just as long with no major issues.
Thanks Scotty, I will never buy a "Cheep" Renegade...
How is your crv doing till this date?
My 2017 CRV runs great. No problems of any kind. Yet.
It's a Honda you'll be fine. I own 2 Toyota's and Honda's are just as good.
2017 2018 Honda CR-V has a big oil Dilution issues. Check your oil level
We have a 18 Camry and 18 4Runner, but I still love Honda. We had an 05 Accord and it was great! I also love my Honda lawnmower.
I have a 2018 Jeep Renegade and, I’ve had 0 problems! I got mine brand New for 19,000 and, I love it ❤️

As a big Honda and Toyota lover and a mechanic. I completely agree. The early 90s were Toyota and Honda’s glory days both had very very good engines in both reliability and power per liter. Now both have being going down hill Toyota has even just about given up even making there own engines. Sad really.
??? Toyota is still making its engines, just not the ones in the Supra and BRZ 💀💀
True
As Scotty said in an earlier video, Honda build better engine while Toyota build the better overall car. So engine swap anyone?
@@absboodoo Maybe in the 90s but not today.
Hey Marlon. Sup. All true if you stick with Honda's port injection in the Civic and HRV.. Safe bets.
Lol I’ve own Honda for 30 years. Never had any issues
scotty is like a car priest , love watching his videos , I have never seen a mechanic that's as brutally honest as Mr Kilmer.
Rev up your Honda CR-V! 🚗💨💨

I would buy a Honda over almost any American car.
C S True on that, I’m done & done with American Automobiles. They still haven’t caught up with the Japanese Auto makers yet. Way to keen on making that fast dollar. Quality is Job Last place.
Having my Daily morning Scotty today. Enjoy the car talk.
No cars are as well made as they used to be scotty hondas are still great cars.
Scotty, I want to get a Lexus SUV like RX 350 or NX 200 or small car like IS250. What do you think about those models. The new one are kind of expensive. Do you recommend used Lexus like 3 to 5 years old ??
I disagree , Honda is a very reliable car!
Ur videos have saved my car over the past 3yrs I've been watching. I always check Ur channel for a problem b4 I do anymore research. Thanks Scotty!!
Wonderful video scotty. Keep up the great work
thanks for the support!
Scotty Kilmer of course always for an eternity.
I love this series! Short and to the point. Perfect for someone on break or who doesn't have time!
There is a big class action against Honda right now about Oil Dilution in turbo charger engine especially in China the government ban the sale of Honda CR-V
Good, Finally someone is standing up against Honda! Did you also know that Honda lied about the number of deaths related to their cars?
Even my 94 4Runner with the 3L V6 and manual tranny was a POS that thing couldn't get out of its own way...funny seems the 22RE with a manual had more ooommmppphhh than those V6 engines and automatics :(.
i will still take a Honda motor over a Toyota engine any day.
True. Agreed. Finest 4cyl in the industry.
You need to read up on the Honda civic cracked block issues. Sounds like every civic made for a number of years block will crack due to bad design and manufacture. For this reason I would not think about buying a civic
Thomas Sanderson That’s true they cover the engine for 10 years unlimited kilometres I don’t see any other manufacture doing that
It will leave you stranded and it never should have made it out of the factory. Bad quality control. The only reason why they cover them is there was many lawsuits against them for it
@@modified93tc I have a 2013 Honda civic and I yet to have any problems with it.
I def. agree with you Scotty.
Scotty, I love my 2018 Honda CR-V EX AWD.
me too! best car I've owned. my last car was a 1995 Toyota Avalon. My CRV just had a recall to fix the A/C computer.
I have a 2003 Honda Accord with 156,000 miles. Runs like a champ.
wildwest1
It will run 1m miles if u take care of it
Some of those were made in Japan
It’s just getting warmed up, I owned a 2002 Honda Accord, best car I have ever owned. Transmission fluid change every 30,000 and oil changes every 3000. Had 200,000 and running strong when it was totaled in a car accident.
Smoke Stack My son still has our 2001 Accord we gave him years ago. Has well over 200,000.
O7 civic with 162,000. Nothing major until left front axil at 140k. It's been a great car
Not only that but that was the year they redesigned the CRV. Buying a new model or a recently upgraded one is just asking for trouble.
5 years is usually the end of Honda's product cycles and they totally remodel the model, with a few exceptions.

Fix it the right way
David Donnelly new engine is $7k 😭
If the coolant and oil are not mixing it's not a big deal to just do a headgasket.
Also if you do replace the head make sure to replace the radiator as well if you haven't done so or bypassed it, these cars suffer pink milkshake (coolant and transmission fluid mixing) and that's another $7k repair bill waiting to happen...
