    Of all channels to make a serious innovation in bowl making techniques, I honestly didn’t expect Waterjet Channel to be the one. But in all seriousness that is an amazing bowl and you’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible with that technique. Way to go!

      It's an old and well known technique for scroll saw woodworking, been around for decades and most often used to make cool fold flat fruit bowls etc. It's one of the first things you learn with scroll saw work, if you cut a spiral you can make a bowl

    • @PatrickAdairDesigns
      @PatrickAdairDesigns 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Lilith-Rose I’ve never seen one cast with resin that’d actually hold water/hold up to abuse over time. Maybe I just haven’t seen it though, I’m definitely not a bowl expert haha.

    • @Lilith-Rose
      @Lilith-Rose 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@PatrickAdairDesigns I've seen them where the spiral is glued and then turned down on a lathe, then sealed the usual way with wax or oils etc. Same result just attained using wood glue or epoxy rather than casting resin. I'm just surprised that spiral cut bowls seem to be relatively unknown or surprising when to me they are on the same level as things like lathe turned bowls and wooden fruits etc. Not quite sure how to put it into words or describe it properly, the closest I can think of would be calling it intermediate hobbyist woodworking or something like that, the kind of stuff you see at craft fairs. Maybe it's more of a UK thing as well

    Boys, you have to learn that you just don’t use glass with resin, sticks to it every single time. Plastic is so much easier, especially with mold release. And a pressure pot is much better for air bubbles than a vacuum chamber. I made my pressure pot out of a paint sprayer from Harbor Freight. You just have to add and remove some simple fittings and do a little modification on the valves to make it work. I did mine for under $125. Huge difference clarity. 40-45 psi for about 8-10 minutes will rid the resin of all micro bubbles. I’ve mixed close to 1000 gallons of resin in the past 3 or so years. I do this stuff for a living now and have made about every mistake with it as possible. Just trying to help.

    You could probably try warming the bowl when you pour the resin or maybe even after, then cooling the bowls so that it contracts and then maybe the resin would release. Or if you dont care about breaking the glass, you could heat it pretty hot and try to shock freeze it with dry ice or something to cause the glass to shatter.

    You should send one of those spirals to Peter Brown, Would be neat to see what he could do. Would it be possible to merge two of those spirals together? Like two kinds of wood?
