  • We tried using our waterjet to make a bowl out of a marble countertop and blue glow resin. It was really annoying and hard.

    Props for powering through it when the resin started to set “early.” But, all things considered, it came out pretty decent. Can’t wait for you guys to perfect your process. Maybe make a silicone bowl mold. Like, use the bottom of a 3 or 5 gal bucket, fill it with silicone, then set the weighted glass bowl down into it. After the silicone sets up, remove the weight, pour some silicone into the glass bowl and let it set. Then you’ll have a negative silicone bowl mold you can put the spiral and resin in and it won’t be such a pain in the ass to remove

      @@tsm688 Actually you can do this to any material 100% natural or not. At any point in the curve it is moving only by the smallest amount. I doubt the countertop was engineered marble and is likely natural marble

    • @tsm688
      @tsm688 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nanaki-seto Natural marble is **EXTREMELY** hard to find these days for various reasons - not the least of which it actually sucks as a kitchen surface. Hard to clean and easy to damage. Unless they went out of their way to helicopter something in from a quarry, it's "engineered stone", meaning, mostly NOT stone.
      Granite on the other hand, they still do granite countertops. And their granite, as expected, shattered so instantly they only show it for three seconds of video. The quartzite they did in another video is probably real too.

    A strong recommendation when working with epoxy resin is to use nitrile gloves and avoid all contact with non cured resin. This is because, even though it is very uncommon, contact with uncured epoxy can cause epoxy allergy, which is a very bad allergy, you will no longer be able to be in the same room as uncured epoxy ever again without nearly choking to death.

    I'm sure it's been said, but just in case it hasn't. Use deep pour resin. It's got a much longer cure time and releases bubbles far easier. Also, if you want to speed it up, it would be safe to heat something this small/thin to around 90-110F for around 3 hours and it should cure in less than a day. Even just pointing a space heater at it and turning it frequently would make it cure fast.
