    If you had used similarly priced lenses on both cameras, I'm sure the results from the S5II would have been much better.

    I'll be honest - I couldn't tell the difference in most scenes. Ultimately, I prefer the look of the GH6. The softness looks more cinematic. These two cameras are similar to FX3/A7iv combo that I use. The video from the FX3 is a bit soft (though still in focus) while the A7iv is super sharp with it's oversampled image. If Sony updated the A7Siii to have the same feature set as the FX3, I'd probably sell both and just go with that. Fun video - as a fellow content creator, I appreciate all the prep work that went into it.

    I found it hard to notice difference, but on TH-cam and iPad small screen so that contributes. Did notice once you pointed out. What surprised me was that I was mixed overall on footage. Sometimes preferred one and then the other. Overall Liked them both. Interesting comparison, thanks.

    IMHO - The GH6 has a more cinematic look, better colour almost like a BMCC- the S5 looks washed out and home video camera looking - the S5 at 6:58 you can see where although the S5 shows a lot more dynamic range it looks washed out while the face on the GH6 just looks more pleasing especially the skin tones (I’m watching on a 65” Sony 4K TV

    • @jessecumberledge4530
      @jessecumberledge4530 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep Gh6 has the best skin tones consistently of any camera I have used. But if you don't have dynamic range boost mode on ( it can get noisy fast) then you have a full 2 stops less dynamic range compared to the s52. Outside like these scenes were shot, it makes a massive difference in your possible shot selection. Shame that the Dynamic Range boost couldn't have been implemented just slightly differently.
      I suppose inside our studios I still prefer the GH6. But we have been doing a lot more shooting in situations where I can't control the lighting and the S52 is just much much better overall. Can't wait for the S1h2, all I want is a full frame Gh6. Gh6 body for my massive hands is much more user friendly.

    Very nice videos…personally I am waiting for MFT camera like gh6s with dual iso and second base at 5000 iso minimum…or S2H with 120 fps FF and higher iso base like the FX3 maybe not 12000 but 6400 iso PDAF for both…😊

    Thanks for this test. Just AFC is no reason for upgrading my gh5. I am ok with my gh5, FHD, high fps/ss, one area, small box, metering in the box, contrasty profile, common scenario’s. PL 14-140 in daytime (lightning fast AFmotor), Sigma 16mm 1.4 in lowlight. I know when to use AFC, MF or MF icw AFC. Only when light conditions/contrast are poor, my gh5 can go awol. The gh6 has that issue too. Yes, the gh6 has better AF in more scenario’s than my gh5, but PD has issues too. Like with any camera it all about how and when to use your gear.
    Since content is king AF hunting/pulsing is in the eye of the beholder or tech savies with their tunnel vision will never be satisfied.
    Is there someone out there who bought a Sony for its IBIS? 😜

    It's Simple: EXPERIENCED SHOOTERS - Will pick the GH6 all day long for it's versatility and options because they know to manually focus and manipulate the camera to where the autofocus isn't a problem./////// INEXPERIENCED & NOVICE SHOOTERS - Will pick the S5II because they don't want to deal with possible Autofocus issues and it's one less thing to worry about. Let's just be honest here everyone, most people who buy these cameras want something simple like them pulling of their cell phones from their pockets.....they don't want complexity. I am 100% happy with my GH5 and all my LEICA glass. Until Panasonic makes a HUGE LEEP forward with MFT........I'm saving $$$$ and sticking with my GH5. Remember......it's the photographer and the glass that makes the best pictures and videos....not the camera body!!!!!

    ok no hate or tr*sh talk but it was pretty easy to tell which one was which to a trained eye or someone that knows a thing or two about sensor size and looks:
    - the depth of field was different on both cameras so you can tell which one was full frame and MFT.
    - the GH6 as a nice soft look to its already sharp image, kind of like what blackmagic does with their cameras, thats why I love my GH6 but yeah the S5II has a sharper image if that's what you're looking for, I don't own it but have used it plenty.
    - the 12-60 leica is an overrated lens IMO, its not the sharpest zoom and doesn't have the best aperture number so its not a great choice for a comparison, its not bad... but not the best either, at this point given how old that lens is, I'd say that the 20-60 kit from the S5II is way better.
    - even though this wasn't a color comparison, that is a dead giveaway too, the GH6 as a greenish tint to the VLog and the S5II from what I've seen in my test and the rest of the people online using it, its more magenta, you can tell by the Blues that have a purple/magenta hue to it, as well as the skin tones, so It is better to match the colors for a blind camera comparison because the autofocus might work good enough on the GH6 that might fool the viewer but the rest of the factors I mention are dead giveaways.
    So don't take my comment the wrong way Caleb, it's not meant in a bad criticizing way.

      i was at ISO 640 to keep it consistent with the S5ii low frequency. im not sure why it was peaking like that cuz if anything i was a bit under exposed

    • @mikes_perspective6580
      @mikes_perspective6580 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CalebHoover got cha. So then DRB wasn’t on if you were at iso 640 being that it starts at 2000 with it on. 👍🏽 still looks good, but it was definitely noticeable when compared to the S5ii nice shots tho Caleb!

    • @DennisSchmitz
      @DennisSchmitz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikes_perspective6580 Yea, without DRB and the non-native iso value involving analog gain, the GH6 probably lost 2 stops in highlights in comparison.
      Still a good looking image, especially when it comes to its color science.

    Thanks for sharing. I have and love both. Looking at the sky on scene 7, that’s clear that dynamic range on s5ii is better. Highlights are better on s5ii, my guess. On the other hand, in my opinion, color skin tone as much more natural on gh6…

    I have the GH6 and my mate has the S5ii. His kit lens, and it really should not be dismissed as a kit lens, is incredibly pin-sharp.
    Until I saw this episode, I had in my mind that I would ditch my GH6 in a heartbeat once Panasonic make a MFT camera with Phased Detection. To be honest, I’ve not once had a focusing problem with the GH6 so I won’t be in too much of a hurry to upgrade.
    My GH4 and GH5 were shocking at autofocus.

  • @aiseurnae5976
    @aiseurnae5976 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you for the test, but the scenes are not really challenging, the GH5 could get the same results than the GH6 here with the 12-60mm PL. Try using Open Gate and/or shallow DOF on both the GH6 and S5II, the S5 II will be far ahead. My GH6 AF is almost useless in Open Gate with my 10-25mm and 25-50mm PL, even my GH5 is faster with less pulsing.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว

    At first I thought it was an obvious comparison in that the S5ii was going to win in all shots but I'm surprised at the good job the gh6 does, I wonder which native lens gives the best autofocus performance since I use a leica 25mm f1.4 and I feel that it is difficult for it to track, I don't know if it is because I use it in 1.4, maybe I should go up to 2.8?

    • @alphagammabeta1
      @alphagammabeta1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The newer Panasonic lenses autofocus at 240 fps. The mark ii version of the 25 mm 1.4 has an upgraded autofocus motor. If you have the original lens this might be a factor. I don’t have a problem with autofocus tracking with the 10-25 at 1.7 for what I do. However If it’s a scene with fast dynamic movements I will generally stop down stop down to at least f4.

  • @dariel312
    @dariel312 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got every single one right, probably a coincidence. But for me what gave it away more was the Dynamic Range and sometimes the depth of field was better slightly on the S5ii. My guess is that GH6 was focusing behind the subject making the background look more in focus, assuming he compensated for different sensor size.
