There's something so refreshing about watching a quick-to-the point video. Amazing the difference between the lashes with the two techniques! I love how you showed us the tip in action. Many makeup artists would show heavily edited/ filtered results that aren't true to life.

Nice tips! When I apply mascara, I ALWAYS use a *zig-zag motion* from the roots to the tips of my lashes. I don't know if that works for everybody, but works for me every time! :)
joanna_k I do the same BUT I start from the outer corners and I curl my lashes so that I pull them towards the inner corner of my eye and then when I reach it, I go back and curl from the inner corner outwards only this time doing it normally as they naturally grow. Hope you got what I mean? I found this makes them look thicker and longer. :)
Nastasia Haha, I'm not sure I got it! lol When you say "curl", you mean with the mascara brush not with the eyelash curler, right? And when you talk about inner-outer corner, you mean the left-right direction of your eyes. Am I right? If that's the case, then I do that too! :D
joanna_k I meant the mascara brush, yup! I don't even own a curler, that has always looked like a torture device to me haha! And yes, I do mean left-right direction! It really boosts them if you apply it by first pulling them inwards and then go through again applying it normally - upwards. Oh and I will also often wait for a few moments till it dries a bit and comb through with a dry, clean mascara brush for a more natural, non-clumpy look!

But I thought it was weird to comb your lashes afterwards! 😂 I don't have a curler either, because a) I'm scared that I will hurt my eyes and b) my lashes are already quite long and I get mascara on my eyelids all the time, so the curler would make that worse! Glad I found another girl doing those tricks! :)

I must say that I have found in all my years wearing makeup ( trust me, decades longer than you!) I found that starting to apply my mascara by putting it on the tips of my lashes has always worked for me. I thought I was the only one to apply it this way and was one of my makeup tips I shared with my friends since way back in the early 70's. I guess my secret is out, Lol! This works. I have always cleaned my brush off because there would be too much mascara. Doing it your way makes my lashes look PERFECT. Almost falsies. This even works without using a primer. Thanks so much.
Here's me reporting the results as promised. :-) This worked like a dream! I currently only have an old dry mascara so I doubted it would work. But it did! Even though I'm normally very good at applying mascara to make my eyelashes appear long, this tip beats everything I could ever do! I totally love it! That's why you need to use waterproof mascara- it's wax based, not water based so it doesn't straighten curled lashes. Think about what happens to hair when you've curled it and been caught in the rain- same thing! : )
a tip that you could try when using a lash curler is to let them slightly warm up, you don't have to use hair dryer as it'll be too extreme, just rub the curler with a towel for a good few seconds before you curl your lashes ams you're good to go! :)
Yolanda Chen bad form. curling your lashes actually hurts them. If you change the type of mascara you use then it won't straighten your lashes. I suggest a silicone or clay based.
I use an old, dried out mascara (not clumpy) as a comb/primer. It has a spiky plastic wand. I do one coat with the dry mascara, let it dry, then follow with my normal mascara, which I comb out with the dry, spiky wand from the old mascara while wet. I also save my wands from old mascaras, especially the spiky plastic ones, because they are great for coming through wet clumps, separating lashes and lengthening the mascara along the lash.
Its all about the technique. I love how you are close to your mom, my daughter and I are close too, she often likes to do my makeup for me and it is such a treat.
This video changed my life!!!!! I only wear mascara for my eye makeup I have extremely long lashes. I wear mascara EVERYDAY and ALWAYS struggle making the most out of my lashes and when I have a good mascara day I cringe when I have to take it off before I goto bed because I feel I got lucky that day lol. I've passed by this video on TH-cam many times without taking the time out to watch it so happy I did!!!!! As soon as I saw the huge difference between her eyes by the technique same mascara I wiped off my mascara and applied to the tips first tips and couldn't believe how long my lashes were I have never seen my lashes that long ever .. They were not separated but then I used barley any mascara on the roots to the top and it all came together beautiful!!!! It separated and joined with the tips and even made them longer ! I will never struggle with my mascara again now my lashes are going to look perfect everyday thank you!!!!!
This is also the technique I use! When people ask me about my mascara and how I do my lashes, I tell them to start at the tips and they often seem surprised. And it works with every mascara I've used (some more than others, of course!). Awesome video!

ghosted166 I use cover girl (clump crusher I think?) and it makes my lashes look very natural and soft, unlike a lot of other mascaras I've tried. It won't make your eyelashes super black and dark though. That's the only thing I don't like about it. It looks maybe a bit TOO natural for my taste some days LOL 😂
gotta try this. my lashes are v long but they get tangled and clump very easily. the brushing thing is good! the mega volume from l'oreal is great, the one with the blue and silver tube. very thick, dark and long lashes. too faced better than sex is also very lengthening and pretty and not clumpy at all. honestly i find the best thing is to mix formulas, use 2 mascaras, one coat of each.
If you take an old mascara brush and clean it you can use it as a comb for your lashes. I just aply my mascara as normal and then use the clean mascara Brush. That way i have no clumbs and my lashes look longer

wow my mum always does her lashes the way you did your left one and i always do it the way you did the right one and the other day she told me to try the left method you did because i'd always be like "how do you get your lashes looking so long and curved without curving them" and then this was in my recommended to prove that what she does actually works and other people do it too :D

k w it really doesn’t! Maybe it helps a little but I tried this and it helped my eyelashes look SOOOO much longer! I’d give it a try. It really lengthens.
If the primer same like the white liquid in L’Oréal or Maybelline mascara then the primer is helping the lashes look more thicker. I wish she does comparison without using primer

This was the only advice that really worked for me. My lashes slightly fell because of the weight on the tips, but when it did there was still a curl, AND they were very long. Also, another trick: if you don't have eyelash primer, you can substitute with white powdery eyeshadow. Just dust it on your lashes lightly and apply mascara. This also helped me keep curl. I'd probably still get primer though, I don't know how well powder keeps it from smearing.

Hi! My eyelashes grow DOWN. I've tried everything!! Heating the eyelash curler,spoons,waterproof mascara etc. I really need help the second after curl them they go straight back down. Any Advice??
Amelia Colbert not sure if this is an option where you live but in the US there are places in almost every state where you can go and get your eyelashes curled sort of like a perm for your hair they state curled for a couple months usually and then you can get them redone. hope this helps!

Try Perversion mascara from Urban Decay! It's the best one I've had till now. I cried while watching a movie and when I checked later, it doesn't smudge! Only after 5-7 hours it does smudge a bit, but that's because I have an oily face.

Wow! This is great for those of us who are older (I'm 62). When I was younger, my lashes were so thick that I didn't need to use mascara. Now they are more fine and also less dense. I'm also dealing with the "hooding" effect that comes with age/ gravity. This trick does away with the need to try to use eye shadow to create the effect of bigger eyes. Thank goodness, no more trying to follow the tutorials that show someone using three or four different shades, and liners, and many different brushes, to make one's eyes look more open. You have to tilt your head back to apply it to the upper lashes, and tilt your head to the front for the lower lashes.

Same here! My trick is to take the time to curl your lashes (I use Shu Uemura) and then use 3 coats of a waterproof mascara (any from Maybelline).

Oh, and remember to wipe off the excess mascara off of the wand. That will help a lot (:
Try brown mascara. Makes your lashes look a lot less harsh but still can give you the volume you like :)

Lucifer Broke the l'oreal one in particular doesn't budge. soz, just checked, it's actually called false lash sculpt.
If you take an old mascara brush and clean it you can use it as a comb for your lashes. I just aply my mascara as normal and then use the clean mascara Brush. That way i have no clumbs and my lashes look longer

wow my mum always does her lashes the way you did your left one and i always do it the way you did the right one and the other day she told me to try the left method you did because i'd always be like "how do you get your lashes looking so long and curved without curving them" and then this was in my recommended to prove that what she does actually works and other people do it too :D

k w it really doesn’t! Maybe it helps a little but I tried this and it helped my eyelashes look SOOOO much longer! I’d give it a try. It really lengthens.
If the primer same like the white liquid in L’Oréal or Maybelline mascara then the primer is helping the lashes look more thicker. I wish she does comparison without using primer

This was the only advice that really worked for me. My lashes slightly fell because of the weight on the tips, but when it did there was still a curl, AND they were very long. Also, another trick: if you don't have eyelash primer, you can substitute with white powdery eyeshadow. Just dust it on your lashes lightly and apply mascara. This also helped me keep curl.
I'd probably still get primer though, I don't know how well powder keeps it from smearing.

Thank you for this great trick!!! I have the same mascara as you use, but without my eyelash curler, my lashes were never so seperated, and lifted up. They always stuck together and were very straight. With your method, I did it without a curler, and they look great.

Hi! My eyelashes grow DOWN. I've tried everything!! Heating the eyelash curler,spoons,waterproof mascara etc. I really need help the second after curl them they go straight back down. Any Advice??
I think a primer might help you, one layer from the roots, then wait and then another layer again curl as much as you can.
Amelia Colbert not sure if this is an option where you live but in the US there are places in almost every state where you can go and get your eyelashes curled sort of like a perm for your hair they state curled for a couple months usually and then you can get them redone. hope this helps!

Try Perversion mascara from Urban Decay! It's the best one I've had till now. I cried while watching a movie and when I checked later, it doesn't smudge! Only after 5-7 hours it does smudge a bit, but that's because I have an oily face.
I absolutely loved Perversion! A little bit on the pricey side (for me personally) but lasts a long time and the wear is amazing

Urska Dolenc try the Apple cosmetic mascaras. no other mascara has lengthened and volumized like these. all you have to do is learn to be careful with the wand since it's very full

Wow! This is great for those of us who are older (I'm 62). When I was younger, my lashes were so thick that I didn't need to use mascara. Now they are more fine and also less dense. I'm also dealing with the "hooding" effect that comes with age/ gravity. This trick does away with the need to try to use eye shadow to create the effect of bigger eyes. Thank goodness, no more trying to follow the tutorials that show someone using three or four different shades, and liners, and many different brushes, to make one's eyes look more open.
