It seems every band or artist on TH-cam has been underrated :) You can't really mean that; they had lots of hit songs, their albums were respected, their songs were covered and bands were called after them (AC/DC). And then there was Queen with their layered sound and harmonies just like Sweet had. Anyway, RIP Steve Priest; 1973 was the best year ever in pop music, and that was partly because of you.
Performance with joy and fun. I like to see the makeup, outfits and Mick playing with his drumsticks, Steve and Andy making faces, Brian keeping calm and serious with nice dance moves. There is nothing like Sweet ❤
The genius of Blockbuster, with its easy combination of bolshy glam muscle and campy pop theatre. Almost 50 years later, the opening klaxons are still an amazing head-rush, immediately turning the track into an event. Wonderful delicious delirium.
Love this video. So very 70's. This was when Sweet were really hitting their stride, coming out of the bubblegum ghetto and into the Glam palace. All the debate over "who ripped off who - Bowie or Sweet" is irrelevant. Both Blockbuster and The Jean Genie were recorded and released at roughly the exact same time, and both are equally great songs.
I agree the riff is a common one that's been used for a long time at that point the specific version was written by Bo Diddley but the riff is from the 1800s which makes even more ridiculous anyway Rock On

Eine TOP Band mit vielen großen Hits, nur die überstarke Schminke , besonders bei Steve Priest (sieht wie ein Mädchen aus) konnte schon echt "nerven"...
This prompted me to do a quick search, apparently both parties denied copying one another. Both this song and "The Jean Genie" were recorded in 1972 and were in the charts at the same time (Bowie - Nov '72, Sweet - Jan '73). A couple of blogs I read cited The Yardbirds "I'm a man" (A Bo Didley cover) as a likely influence for the riff.
sally anne kolarMoa Sally anne kolarMoa I am feeling perfectly fine, thank you. I was not stating they were position 73, rather the song was released in '73 (1973) as indicated by the abbreviated month beforehand. I will amend my original comment with the appropriate apostrophe to avoid further confusion.
colin young oh yes I see what u was saying they was at number 1 in 1973 not the chart poison was 73 it just looked how u pot it on here that sweet were in the charts at number 73
Heroes from good times gone by. RIP Brian, Mick and Steve 😢. Long live Andy 🤘
Will never stop appreciating how fab they were 😢
The real fab four ☝️

True rock stars. Brilliant performance

Underrated group of good musicians ...

@@thatfullmoonguy2330 Just another idiot who doesn't know what underrated means...
@@markrae1317 I know, Mark. But let's face it, we all say things in our enthusiasm, right? I do...
Best 70s band ❤

Когда то в юности сходил с ума от этой группы.
А сейчас даже смотреть не могу.
Противно до тошноты.

And for the curious the song by Bo Diddley is I'm a Man
@@bassplayer8815 Ah Bo Diddley Bo Diddley, where did you go ? :)
You do know Mr Chapman wrote this and many Sweet hits ? Look it up his demo's are right here 😂😂
I think I was stoned the first time I heard a Sweet song. Thumbs up
Their only UK number one, and I was so happy they finally got there.
UK is not important 😂 they were huge everywhere ❤
Tremendo video. Tiene una especie de iman que no me deja ver otro video mas. Poderoso, irreverente, adelantado a su epoca, 10 de 10.,
PERFECT!!!!
Brilliant footage.
My first single
Steve my own dear heart ❤️
Me too, WOW
Freakin' awesome!!!
my god i love this !
Sweet song
great
What a great song even after 47 years, l beat Jimmy was on the prowl in that studio.
Good times .....
😭😭💙💙
I like song of the Best band
Steve looks almost Pre-Raphaelite in this video!
metaldaduk really well observed, he does❤️
More like makeup from the 1920’s era 😁
I just realised he was a redhead like myself. Our skin and red hair is very pre raphaelite. Amazing stage presence and charm.
my first ever record
its like im hearing the queens are back once more
Zouden in deze tijd het goed doen op het Songfestival!!
This GLAM is HOT!
RIP Steve
I have this cd with Love is like oxygen
Glam metal at its best
The Jean Genie's half brother.
Steve Priest on here man ha ha
Como não amar?
Покойся с миром, Стив!
Nyugodj békében Brian!❤😢
never seen this vid before.
It's strange, the only one who looks comfortable in makeup in Steve; the others, particularly the drummer, look uncomfortable. It is in the eyes.
I don't think the drummer looks uncomfortable though
i think thats just how he looks
I'm pretty sure if they weren't comfortable, they wouldn't have done it.
If you weren't there, YOU MISSED NIRVANA.
Ah-ah, ah-ah
You better beware, you better take care
You better watch out if you've got long black hair
He'll come from behind, you'll go out of your mind
You better not go, you never know what you'll find
Ah-ah, ah-ah
You look in his eyes, don't be surprised
If you don't know what going on behind his disguise
Nobody knows where Buster goes
He'll steal your woman out from under your nose
Does anyone know the way? Did we hear someone say?
(We just haven't got a clue what to do)
Does anyone know the way? There's got to be a way
To block Buster
The cops are out, they're running about
Don't know if they'll ever be able to block Buster out
He's gotta be caught, he's gotta be taught
'Cause he is more evil than anyone here ever thought
Does anyone know the way? Did we hear someone say?
(W-w-we just haven't got a a-ho)
Does anyone know the way? There's got to be a way
To block Buster
Does anyone know the way? Did we hear someone say?
(We just haven't got a clue what to do)
Does anyone know the way? There's got to be a way
To block Buster
Ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah
Buster, Buster, blockbuster
Buster, Buster, blockbuster
Buster, Buster, blockbuster
Buster, Buster, blockbuster
Buster, Buster, blockbuster
Buster, Buster, blockbuster
Buster, Buster, blockbuster

Main riff reminds me of: "Dream Geanie" by Bowie.
Not Steve priests most flattering video
It is what it is
The only rock band who were better looking women than their groupies 😂😂
okay survivors! it's time for some airing !
Shame none of these guys ever worked at Blockbuster.

I'm sure this is the same guitar riff as The Jean Genie" by David Bowie
Doll
similar to Queen in the 70s
Sweet was first 🎉
definitely not stolen from David Bowie...

Thanks for the memories.
