SWEET deserves to be remembered as a great musical and influential band. Great songs, great musicianship and very talented writers as well as performers.
Being a drummer, I always looked forward to playing Ballroom blitz. It is technically challenging and exceptionally inventive drum track & highly difficult to reproduce. I am grateful to modern drummer magazine putting an article out on him. Afterward, I took a deep dive and realized he was one of the best ever.

Mick was an awesome drummer and one who set extremely high drumming standards! Underrated and is yet to receive the recognition which he is deserving of!
Finally some love for Mick Tucker! I believe part of the problem with Sweet in general not getting the respect they deserved was being called a Glam band. They rocked hard. Just listen to Into the Night.
They didn't get respect because of the "trans thing". No one who was buying Led Zeppelin albums and going to their concerts wanted anything to do with crossdressers, and their band name didn't help, either. The Sweet's music was a lot better than their image.
As a yank that i can why that image didn’t go over here. Terrible name. Terrible outfits even tho it’s glam. Nobody had star power either. I saw a short doc on them years ago.
I still maintain to this day that Desolation Boulevard is one of the greatest albums of the '70s, pure driving rock and roll from start to finish! Ballroom Blitz, Sweet FA, No You Don't, Fox On The Run, No You Don't, I Wanna Be Committed, Set Me Free. Wow!
Mick was one of the first inovate drummers in rock, who made drums become more famous and popular. I was told once, that Micks drumset was one of the first ones, that was ever taped on isolated multitracks in the recording studio. Is that true?
The singers downfall, bar fight , drinking, bad luck etc... cut this amazing bands life/ legacy short. But honestly, fuk em, People who missed it, some folks don't even know they wrote fox on the run, Sweets, right up there with zep, the who, Queen, etc... Sweet was a decade ahead of their time. BEST OF THE BEST. GOOD JOB GUYS.

My favourite drummer after Bonzo. He could REALLY play. Why isn’t he given the recognition he deserves? Sweet were musically miles ahead of the likes of Black Sabbath and I think that had they been able to play The Who’s Charlton gig in 1974 they’d have blown The Who offstage for sure. As for Queen, they were the public school reply to the Sweet and ripped them off, citing instead Jimi Hendrix as their main inspiration, something I have enormous difficulty taking seriously. Brian May is no more than a scratchy version of Andy Scott. Sweet should really be where Queen are now but I think some people higher up in society saw to that. Then in the 80s the Taxman took the Sweet to the cleaners, leaving them broke and on the cabaret nostalgia circuit. It should have been so different had there been any justice. I think they were made an example of to deter other wannabe musicians from adopting a similar attitude to their music and their relationship with the inland revenue. The lack of recognition for the talents of Mr Tucker and the Sweet is little short of criminal to my mind. RIP Mick, Brian & Steve.
I always loved Mick's playing...and only saw him once as an opening act. Later when You Tube came around I would seak out his videos. II never was blown away by John Bonam. He was a great player but it just was not my thing. I do not know why but glam band members never get their due. Only when the leader of the band goes solo and they become huge. Sad really...so much talent was in those bands.

Sweet supported The Who on tours. It’s sortta remarkable that the more obvious choice didn’t fill Moon’s chair. However there’s the “political correctness” factor to appreciate.
Well, they had that 'B Side' contract early on, during the bubblegum era. Gotta eat. You had to flip Little Willy over to get a sense for what they wanted to do. Interesting recording career, for sure. You're not wrong when speaking of a portion of that career. No denying they were influential.
Mick Tucker's was and will a rock legend. Great drumer, unforget, supernatural talent; Mick Tucker's lefted a mark in the history of rock. He was the soul of the Sweet band. (in my opinion)
Not only that, but Andy Scott was the precurser to Brian May's guitar style - This is what I hear - Just listen to the overdubs, etc But, def - M Tucker never got the recognition they deserve

Mick was an influence on me. When I heard Ballroom Blitz I was in awe, and bought the 45 record. I love playing it on drums to this day. And, without Mick, there would be no Tommy Lee.
It's clear that he was a huge influence on Tommy. If I remember correctly Mick played with his platforms on which is something that most drummers wouldn't have dared to attempt.
Saw Mick and Andy on the Sweet`s `85 comeback tour. A regional hotel in country Victoria Australia. Played for 2hrs and Mick was never short of a beer. A roadie kept replacing the empties on the speaker box next to him. Great player, wonderful independence and constantly overlooked. Man with the Golden Arm and The Six Teens are standouts.
maybe it's not important but is somebody knows when Mick switch from 1 to 2 bass drum drumkit, i know the career of the band for sure and i'm an experienced drummer for near 50 years by the way but now on retreat ...always love the playing of Mick ?
Great drummer though my one gripe with him is his influence on all those American drummers of the 80’s and 90’s his stick twirling, hi-hat barks were heavily borrowed but anyone who has seen his solo which has a great jumping off point The Man with the Golden Arm the one where Frank Sinatra mimed to the great Shelly Manne and does a pretty good job too will know he had a lot more in his armoury than a simple pattern like Ballroom Blitz and he incorporated a lot of different patterns in his solo as well triplets he was adept at the crossover triplet common in jazz but in rock circles made famous by John Bonham but one area he was especially skilful was the alternating flam and he would move them around the kit and with the two bass drums underneath had this nice flowing triplet feel with the flams speeding up and playing that cleanly is not easy and one of a few drummers outside of Louie Bellson to popularise the use of double bass drums along with Cozy Powell.
I started listen to Sweet in mid 70 ies as Kiss didn't measure up the drum play to Sweet! I still think so now, Mick Tucker has a own style & are a really great drummer! RIP MICK TUCKER!!❣🤘

Ian Paice is highly praised within the drumming community, but of course he deserves even more. I met him in the early 2000's, a true gent❤.
Listening to Mick influenced me to play the drums at 13. He was an amazing drummer with his quadlets and various fills. 🥁🤟🏼

Russ Ballard of Argent told me that Bob Henrit, also of Argent, taught Mick how to twirl the drumsticks.

There was always a drum part or drum lick in all of The Sweet’s songs that caught my ear !
