Often times the song and the MV are about 2 different things (for instance Spring Day was written about missing friends, but the MV leans heavily towards honoring the Sewol victims). Yes, the BU is too complex to explain in one comment. But this era is called the "Most Beautiful Moment In Life" because it's a metaphor about youth, the pain of growing up. People say youth is the most precious time in someone's life, but BTS wanted to talk about the confusion, sadness and darkness that comes with it The korean name is "Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa" and it means "The time when the flowers bloom" symbolizing human growth and change. It is really really beautiful and nostalgic 💜
The BU made me ARMY. As a writer, the storyline completely hooked me. The BU is complexe, it follows the struggles and the darkness of youth with realism and raw emotions (but with a bit of fantasy...) The BU is inspired by literature and philosophy, so there is multiple ways to understand its content. It's a journey!
The man that Tae killed was his father who has been abusing him and his sister for a long time. In the song Stigma, there's a line that says "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry my sister." I believe that was tied to this storyline. Yes, Tae did an outstanding acting job. But Jimin was so convincing, too! 😭
Welcome to the BU. It's very emotional, complicated, dark and symbolic...but VERY worth it. Seriously, some of the BEST visual storytelling I've ever witnessed, and I'm 63 years old. This MV is part of the BU, it’s the first song that introduced us to their fictional storyline. It was also the song that changed their whole career and made them more recognizable with time, it was a drastic change between their last album “Dark & Wild” and their new album “HYYH pt.1” in terms of concept. Also, a fun fact, they wanted to have the lyrics as “I need u friend” but they changed it to “girl” probably because it sounded better.
Yes 9 years ago or even 10 years ago.. they are as good and are as amazing as they are today. The performances are so consistent, it showed how hard they worked on it. They may have looked different then and do not have the top of the line equipment as well as finances, but they give their all talent and quality wise.
Taehyung isn't actually a villain in this. The man is beating the girl and Tae stabs him to protect her. Each of the guys represents a specific trouble or difficulty that youth, and often adults, tend to face. Drug addiction, including prescription drugs, depression, suicidal tendencies, poverty, homelessness, and domestic violence. The last one is Jin, whose own life isn't that bad compared to the others, but he also isn't really aware of what his friends are going through. He's losing all of them and, initially, he doesn't even know why. There are six flower petals that burn, one for each of the boys, but they are in his heart and not so easily removed. That's a running theme throughout many videos and songs, that the members of the group are flowers or flower petals. The BU is really complex and some people absolutely love trying to figure everything out while other people don't want to bother with all of that and just want to know the story. Personally, I'm in the latter group but I'm not sure which one you are. Of course, there are other people who just want to enjoy the songs and don't care about the actual BU. Oh, and the songs usually have one meaning while the images in the video are the actual BU story-line. That way, you can enjoy the songs without having to delve into the BU at all if you don't want to. They do that a lot with their songs and MVs.

I just got back from seeing the Suga or Agust-d of BTS Movie concert here in Arizona tonight which by the way was so phenomenal! But I saw you did a reaction on this song and I had to take the time to check out your reaction Lori. This song is amazing and the choreography too is truly top-notch! They are so in sync with their movements it's incredible really! And yes V should definitely be a movie star as well! He would be so good at it. Not sure someone else has said but replace "girl" for "friend". RM said it flowed better with the word girl. 12:32 thats his sister and his father (alcoholic- all the bottles around). BU is a fun 100,000 piece puzzle that took years for Army to complete. When I become Army in 2019, I was happy Xceleste videos and webtoon were mostly completed. Then there was a mobile game that helped fill in more pieces. Now there's an official kdrama coming this year.

As youth’s innocence is slowly eroded away by simply living one’s life, and how not only your actions but those closest to you can affect your life. Namjoon, before he went into military service, said that any time in one’s life can be the most beautiful and that really resonated with me. The BU is complex, confusing and convoluted-like life. It’s a rabbit hole of many twists and tunnels.

Regarding the flower, I'll tell you a story... The story is about an "ugly" man who hides in a castle. He is alone there because he doesn't dare to go out as he feels he is too ugly because his parents and family kept telling him so. He has never been able to feel love. Whenever people tried to approach him, he hid in his garden because he didn't want to go through what had already happened too often. The only thing that brought him joy were his flowers and his garden where he spent most of his time. One day, a woman appeared near the castle. She climbed over the garden fence and got into the garden and stole some flowers. This annoyed the man, so he sat down and watched his garden at night. But when he fell asleep, she stole some again. This went on for several nights. One day he decided to follow her and found out that the woman was selling the flowers she had stolen to earn a living. The man wanted to help the woman. But he was afraid that she was afraid of the way he looked. The only way to help her was to grow more flowers so she could take them and sell them. The man decided to grow a unique flower that could help the woman earn enough money. After a few attempts, it finally worked and he had a beautiful flower that did not yet exist in the world. But no matter how long he waited, the woman never came back. He found out that she had died and the only thing that reminded him of her was the flower she had never received. You've seen this flower more times than you realize, remember...and at some point you'll hear a song and say Aha...💜 Bu songs can also be enjoyed as before, don't stress, they're just as great..

As you already know there are lots of MVs part of the Bangtan Universe. What you should keep in mind is that the MVs have nothing to do with the lyrics. Lots of people are confused because the videos don't follow the lyrics. You've got to see them detached from the lyrics :)
The BU is a complex universe with clues and info spread over time in many mvs, booklets, notes, etc. Back in the days, It must have been so fun for Armys to get clues and hints in real time to make sense of the grand story as they piece together the individual story lines and share hypothesis. My inner Sherlock is basically non existent so I just watched an explanation video. 😂 The music itself, Pdogg production is amazing, the esthetic of the video by Lupens is stunning. The departure from what they released previously, this new genre with the members acting in dramatic roles is still impacful today when I watch it. Love❣️

Different people like to do the BU in different ways. There are explanation/theory videos out there. I enjoy those. Some people don’t want any help so it’s up to you and people more in the know can fill you in, if that’s how YOU want to do it. :) And am I crazy or do I hear JK’s voice in the background of a lot of the parts that he’s not the primary? (I’m not talking adlibs or harmonies, but the main melody).

In the song the word - girl, ... doesnt always mean that specifically - it can be anyone/anything you love or need that you have a toxic relationship with a girl/guy, parents, friends, drugs, alcohol... If you get further into the BU the fact that when apart their lives are horrid and together their lives are great is important. Also fun fact - this song was going to be "I Need You, Chingu (Friend)" but "Girl" sounded better. However of course the BU MVs can be held as stand alone MVs - people have many interpretations for the way BTS art speaks to them. RM has said that he won't give us the all the answers to every song/mv rather it is the journey we take with each song/mv and how it speaks to us specifically that matters. He wants to get people thinking for themselves. (Each member of BTS has a ficticious role in the BU none of this reflects their actual lives....)

J-Hope - is sick and needs meds (apparently suffers from narcolepsy, he actually has munchausen’s syndrome), but abuses the drugs and passes out in the sidewalk of a road from an overdose Jimin - in the bathtub burning a photo, he seems in distress and scared, tries to drown himself V - catches his dad (the dad is the alcoholic one, not V) abusing his sister, in anger and adrenaline attacks his dad and accidentally kills him Jungkook - gets into street fights, seems to not care about anything (depression), ends up being hit by a car at the end. @kristannewell3455 said on 2/21/24 Without getting too deep into the storyline, this MV shows BTS's characters struggle with different problems young people might face. It contrasts these struggles when they're alone with how they're able to be happy together and forget their troubles for a while. And even though the lyrics are, "I need u girl," the MV tells this story of youth, pain, and friendship. There's a particularly poignant moment when they're all together and J-Hope dumps out the pills he'd taken while alone. There's this feeling of if they could just stay together and be there for each other, they could overcome all their individual problems. The MV was also censored, so if you look you'll see there's a second version, mostly because of the part where V stabs his abusive father with the bottle. The scene was considered particularly shocking, not just because of the violence, but because it was a son attacking his father, which really upsets the hierarchy of age and respect in Korea from what I've read about it. So it was quite controversial, but I think it was also important to include to address the kind of abuse this hierarchical structure can sometimes protect. Some of the other ways this power imbalance can lead to abuse is at school or in the workplace, which BTS have also addressed in other songs. Off the top of my head I can think of N.O., School of Tears (predebut song), and Baepsae. FYI -The more graphic version is labelled I Need U 'Original version' on youtube.

The man was V's father that he killed....who was beating V's sister. It's all part of the fictional storyline. Often times the song and the MV are about 2 different things (for instance Spring Day was written about missing friends, but the MV leans heavily towards honoring the Sewol victims). Yes, the BU is too complex to explain in one comment. But this era is called the "Most Beautiful Moment In Life" because it's a metaphor about youth, the pain of growing up. People say youth is the most precious time in someone's life, but BTS wanted to talk about the confusion, sadness and darkness that comes with it
The korean name is "Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa" and it means "The time when the flowers bloom" symbolizing human growth and change. It is really really beautiful and nostalgic 💜
The BU made me ARMY. As a writer, the storyline completely hooked me. The BU is complexe, it follows the struggles and the darkness of youth with realism and raw emotions (but with a bit of fantasy...) Welcome to the BU. It's very emotional, complicated, dark and symbolic...but VERY worth it. Seriously, some of the BEST visual storytelling I've ever witnessed, and I'm 63 years old. This MV is part of the BU, it’s the first song that introduced us to their fictional storyline. It was also the song that changed their whole career and made them more recognizable with time, it was a drastic change between their last album “Dark & Wild” and their new album “HYYH pt.1” in terms of concept.

Yes 9 years ago or even 10 years ago.. they are as good and are as amazing as they are today. The performances are so consistent, it showed how hard they worked on it. They may have looked different then and do not have the top of the line equipment as well as finances, but they give their all talent and quality wise.
Taehyung isn't actually a villain in this. The man is beating the girl and Tae stabs him to protect her. Each of the guys represents a specific trouble or difficulty that youth, and often adults, tend to face. Drug addiction, including prescription drugs, depression, suicidal tendencies, poverty, homelessness, and domestic violence. The last one is Jin, whose own life isn't that bad compared to the others, but he also isn't really aware of what his friends are going through. He's losing all of them and, initially, he doesn't even know why. There are six flower petals that burn, one for each of the boys, but they are in his heart and not so easily removed. That's a running theme throughout many videos and songs, that the members of the group are flowers or flower petals. The BU is really complex and some people absolutely love trying to figure everything out while other people don't want to bother with all of that and just want to know the story. Personally, I'm in the latter group but I'm not sure which one you are. Of course, there are other people who just want to enjoy the songs and don't care about the actual BU. Oh, and the songs usually have one meaning while the images in the video are the actual BU story-line. That way, you can enjoy the songs without having to delve into the BU at all if you don't want to. They do that a lot with their songs and MVs.

I just got back from seeing the Suga or Agust-d of BTS Movie concert here in Arizona tonight which by the way was so phenomenal! But I saw you did a reaction on this song and I had to take the time to check out your reaction Lori. This song is amazing and the choreography too is truly top-notch! BU is a fun 100,000 piece puzzle that took years for Army to complete. When I become Army in 2019, I was happy Xceleste videos and webtoon were mostly completed. Then there was a mobile game that helped fill in more pieces. Now there's an official kdrama coming this year.

Namjoon, before he went into military service, said that any time in one’s life can be the most beautiful and that really resonated with me. The BU is complex, confusing and convoluted-like life. It’s a rabbit hole of many twists and tunnels.

Regarding the flower, I'll tell you a story...
The story is about an "ugly" man who hides in a castle. He is alone there because he doesn't dare to go out as he feels he is too ugly because his parents and family kept telling him so. He has never been able to feel love.
Whenever people tried to approach him, he hid in his garden because he didn't want to go through what had already happened too often. The only thing that brought him joy were his flowers and his garden where he spent most of his time.
One day, a woman appeared near the castle. She climbed over the garden fence and got into the garden and stole some flowers. This annoyed the man, so he sat down and watched his garden at night. But when he fell asleep, she stole some again. This went on for several nights.
One day he decided to follow her and found out that the woman was selling the flowers she had stolen to earn a living. The man wanted to help the woman. But he was afraid that she was afraid of the way he looked. The only way to help her was to grow more flowers so she could take them and sell them. The man decided to grow a unique flower that could help the woman earn enough money.
After a few attempts, it finally worked and he had a beautiful flower that did not yet exist in the world. But no matter how long he waited, the woman never came back. He found out that she had died and the only thing that reminded him of her was the flower she had never received.
You've seen this flower more times than you realize, remember...and at some point you'll hear a song and say Aha...💜

The BU is a complex universe with clues and info spread over time in many mvs, booklets, notes, etc. Back in the days, It must have been so fun for Armys to get clues and hints in real time to make sense of the grand story as they piece together the individual story lines and share hypothesis. My inner Sherlock is basically non existent so I just watched an explanation video. 😂 The music itself, Pdogg production is amazing, the esthetic of the video by Lupens is stunning. The departure from what they released previously, this new genre with the members acting in dramatic roles is still impacful today when I watch it. Love❣️

In the song the word - girl, ... doesnt always mean that specifically - it can be anyone/anything you love or need that you have a toxic relationship with a girl/guy, parents, friends, drugs, alcohol...
If you get further into the BU the fact that when apart their lives are horrid and together their lives are great is important.
Also fun fact - this song was going to be "I Need You, Chingu (Friend)" but "Girl" sounded better.
However of course the BU MVs can be held as stand alone MVs - people have many interpretations for the way BTS art speaks to them.
RM has said that he won't give us the all the answers to every song/mv rather it is the journey we take with each song/mv and how it speaks to us specifically that matters. He wants to get people thinking for themselves.

This story is deep complex and heartbreaking. This MV depicts suicide, overdose, and the hardships of life. It shows that when they are together they are happy and have no worries. But each one is hiding baggage and are suffering alone. This song resonated with fans and this story is why BTS are the best. It came out in 2015. Suga was the one on the bed and burned the room. V killed his dad who was hurting his sis. So we got physical abuse. JK did not fight back because he wanted the pain. They were beating up JK because he bumped into them. He is in pain some army think because he lost his friend. Suga killed himself in the fire. Jimin is depressed and tried to kill himself by drowning in the tub. Hobi overdosed. RM is upset because he is alone and maybe because based on another theory he lost his friends. Jin is really important in the story and not spoiling... =0p So BTS rarely sings about girls. In this case girl means friend. Oh yes JK did get hit by a car. Love the song its a banger. But oh boy is the MV complex and deep. This song got them more notice in US and Korea. When RM wrote the lyrics he wrote "I need u friend", but if you sing it like that it doesn't sound good, so he changed it to "I need u girl", but the real meaning is that I need u friend, so it's a breakup song and at the same time it fits into the story they're doing. So there's a thing called BTS Universe. It's a story line. You need to watch all the MV's in order to understand it and "I NEED U" is the first part of the storyline. It's almost like a puzzle but lemme tell you it will blow your mind. The storyline itself is very deep and YES it includes Fake Love!
RM - works in a gas station, the clients treat him like shit (throwing money on the ground instead of giving it to him, etc) and imagery of him smoking.
Jin - in a room alone, the flower petals start burning, he is a very important character in the storyline. (All the MVs under the same storyline can be found by looking at the description of the videos, they are marked with "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment").
Suga - in a motel, missing someone (scene in the bed), buys gasoline and burns the room with himself inside (suicide).
J-Hope - is sick and needs meds (apparently suffers from narcolepsy, he actually has munchausen’s syndrome), but abuses the drugs and passes out in the sidewalk of a road from an overdose
Jimin - in the bathtub burning a photo, he seems in distress and scared, tries to drown himself
V - catches his dad (the dad is the alcoholic one, not V) abusing his sister, in anger and adrenaline attacks his dad and accidentally kills him
Jungkook - gets into street fights, seems to not care about anything (depression), ends up being hit by a car at the end.

Without getting too deep into the storyline, this MV shows BTS's characters struggle with different problems young people might face. It contrasts these struggles when they're alone with how they're able to be happy together and forget their troubles for a while. And even though the lyrics are, "I need u girl," the MV tells this story of youth, pain, and friendship. There's a particularly poignant moment when they're all together and J-Hope dumps out the pills he'd taken while alone. There's this feeling of if they could just stay together and be there for each other, they could overcome all their individual problems.
The MV was also censored, so if you look you'll see there's a second version, mostly because of the part where V stabs his abusive father with the bottle. The scene was considered particularly shocking, not just because of the violence, but because it was a son attacking his father, which really upsets the hierarchy of age and respect in Korea from what I've read about it. So it was quite controversial, but I think it was also important to include to address the kind of abuse this hierarchical structure can sometimes protect.
Some of the other ways this power imbalance can lead to abuse is at school or in the workplace, which BTS have also addressed in other songs. Off the top of my head I can think of N.O., School of Tears (predebut song), and Baepsae.
