Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Boss: Ancient Automaton Koloktos [HD]

- Battle starts at 0:43
This is the boss of the Ancient Cistern and also the fifth boss in the game. He looks like a giant idol with multiple arms. The way to win is to use the whip to pull his arms off and then attack his heart. After some damage, he'll grow legs and draw multiple swords to attack you; rip off his arms and use his own blades to cut his legs off and attack his heart.
After the battle, Link powers up his Goddess Sword and notices that the Triforce of Courage is resonating on his hand.
He sits around waiting for you to make an entrance just so he can tell you he's too busy to fight you. Villain logic.
Maybe he needed time to enchant that statue. We didn't see him do anything to it.
Dammit link I'm busy!!!
*sits in a room waiting for you to complete the temple
@@KidMajor937: In Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse, Dracula sits waiting for you on his throne. Then when you finally get there; The first part of the fight, he traps you between fire walls, then blasts fire from right beneath you!
Ghirahim must show proper villain etiquette
Though maybe he was looking for some inscriptions or something in the room and was having a little rest when you come in.
Koloktos: The only Zelda boss smart enough to protect his weak point.
EximiusMax it is
And it's not an eye, for once.
True hahaha
Hinox: *aM i A jOkE tO yOu!?!*
And he's a robot (kind of).
Robots stronger than ancient hellborne monsters confirmed
i think its kinda cool how the first game in the timeline still has "ancient" things
Timeline Zelda is bullshit
It's amazing and makes sense when you know much about it.
@@TrueTrickster2016
Indeed. People who trash talk it usually suffer from the Dunning-Kruger-Effect.
yeah because there was a world before Link and Zelda’s time. Gaepora says that the secret of the goddess sword was ‘passed down through generations’ meaning that there was time before this game takes place.
Skyward sword takes place thousands of years after the goddess hylia sealed away demise.
Practically everything about the Ancient Cistern is based on Buddhist mythology. The statues of Buddha throughout the level, the climbing of the spider's thread out of the hellish basement level (representing the short story "The Spider's Thread) and Koloktos is based on the Asura (Lower ranking deities with three heads with three faces and six arms who have become corrupted by the evils of the world including envy, wrath, lies, vanity and aggression)
alexiaNBC
Someone watched a certain top 25 list!! 😉
But that's cool :D
To be honest entire Tloz has motifs inspired on all world mythologies
Don't forget the lotus flowers everywhere. A prominent symbol of change and rebirth in Buddhism.
Imperial Guard I thought lotus flowers were related to Hinduism?
Cool. I knew some of that stuff at least. I heard about the story of the spider's thread on another video. And I thought I recognized Klocktos from some part of Buddhism but I wasn't sure what. You just filled in a big gap.
0:18 Link: "Umm... how long have you been waiting there?" Ghirahim: "About 4 hours and in the mean time, I was playing candy crush" Link: " And I'm persistent?" Ghirahim: ". . ."

I swear, this menacing zoom-sound Koloktos does whenever he's about to attack. It does so much for the vibe of this fight. And the music. URGH
+misterfox IKR!!
You call that menacing? Are we just gonna let that childs laughter when it's defeated slip by?
Zoooom
The music in this game is coom worthy
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
One of the best zelda bosses of all time
and the music as well
That was my favorite boss too
None of your fucking business yup
me to all the way
None of your fucking business agree
My theory about the child laugh Koloktos make is that Ghirahim somehow trapped a soul in the armor of Koloktos and the soul was the energy to power up Koloktos and after Koloktos is defeated, the soul is released from its prison and laughs at Link as a sign of gratitude for being free from Ghirahim's grasps.
Does that mean IT WAS THE SOUL OF A CHILD?!
+SolarGaming That was just a puff of smoke
it's still creepy as hell
ZeldafanNr2 I came to this video just to see if anyone else was creeped out by his laugh. My thoughts upon hearing it were A. That sounded like Skull Kid and B. Who did Ghirahim put in there??
It's so unsettling.
ZeldafanNr2 That...Seems like something Nintendo would do. Plus I can also believe that too, because of Majora's Mask.
There is hardly a thing in video games as satisfying as killing a boss with their own weapon ^^
The Chaos Dragoness A huge weapon at that
+The Chaos Dragoness Sometimes I just stay in that room after killing the boss just so I can swing that big sword around some more.
I disagree. I'd much rather kill a boss that posed a challenge, than this lugging pushover.
Buttered Funnybiscuit Hey. Pushover or not, this is satisfying. You feel like a god umong men.
Buttered Funnybiscuit sayy
Dat creepy child-like laugh at the end.
yeah, turns out Koloktos was actually possesed by a seven year old girl so yeah.
Raul Hernandez memes! true
Raul Hernandez memes! oh wait I don't even know that you reply my comment OK nvm that was scary laughing
Raul Hernandez memes! From Splatoon, both of the laughs can be heard from the statues
Lol
How it moves and the sound it makes before attacking are so memorable
Puffy the Destroyer My favourite animation is when Koloktos swings all six swords repeatedly after you attack him once in his second form. Or twice, I guess.
Puffy the Destroyer still here then every now in then in my thoughts
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I think it's safe to say Koloktos is a fan favorite in the Zelda series! Good job Koloktos, you made a name for yourself despite only being a regular boss!
:)
Hope we get to see more of it
Let's face it. That moment at 4:00 was the part where Skyward Sword bosses stopped being great and turned downright epic.
Indeed! It was after that moment that my hell with that boss started XD
Koloktos head: Hes got a sword.
Red Soul: you idiot, WE'VE ALL GOT SWORDS

The whole ancient cistern dungeon, in my opinion, is one of the best developed dungeons of the recent zelda games. From the new tool you get all the way down to the design (and of course the boss fight) were all very well done and super enjoyable
Well I mean yeah but it’s not like Botw and now TOTK have really good dungeon design
My thought process with this boss:
Beat his first phase: ok so one more time and its dead I guess...
Puts hands on the ground: wait what?
Pulls itself out: what
Cages its weakspot: WHAT?!
Pulls out 6 massive blades: WHAT THE FUCK?!
Sayzar94 seriously though lol he looks hard to beat
Dont forget when he started charging at you
Sayzar94 lol bra you should have 20000 and I like your comment
Sayzar94 I thought the swords were no fair at all, until I started beating him with them, then he became my favourite boss of all time.
It summons the zombie bokos: WHATTHEFUCK OHSHIT
Y'know, I already knew Link was a badass from playing Twilight Princess but this game really really proved it. He sees a gigantic multi-limbed weapon wielding automaton and just draws his own sword in response. And I always knew Link was strong but good lord how strong IS he? He lifted that huge ass broadsword like it was nothing.
Link from TP is different from Link from SS
Adamgontierfan19 yeah but he draws his sword only to put it back
The reason why isn't because he's strong. It's because he's *courageous.*
Hence the reason why he always bears the Triforce of Courage.
The whole thing looks great as a spectacle. But now We have Breath, all these Bosses honestly are weaker than maimed ants, sad to say
@@netweed09breath is easily the shittiest zelda game for me. The story sucks (how does a zelda story fucking suck!). The combat is boring (easy) The soundtrack pales in comparison to Skyward swords. The bosses honestly pale in comparison too, Breath doesn’t have 1 interesting boss fight, they’re all the same, they are all cakewalks with absolutely no immersion. You may aswell play dark souls and challenge yourself a little bit. But botw fans are about as simple minded as they come lets be honest.
This is my favourite boss in the entire Zelda series
+alipareedanse12 Me too :)
+Mona Sirois Third!
Same for me ! :p
What about bongo bongo, dudes? D:
Same
4:00 "oh my god, HE HAS A SWORD!!"
"You IDIOT! We ALL HAVE SWORDS!!"
Just killing a boss with its own weapon makes it ten times more fun. Like the tennis matches with Phantom Ganon or chopping Koloktos's legs off with its giant blade and then slicing open its metaphorical ribcage and proceeding to slash its heart repeatedly.
Good fun, that is.
Not a huge fan of Skyward Sword, compared to the other games in the Zelda series, but this is one of the best bosses in the entire series.
and this game is underrated? IT HAS A WATER DUNGEON DONE RIGHT!
+Dave The Gamer That is so true
@@biraptor6205 I loved the motion controls the dungeons, characters and the whole presentation. Just sadly, it was awfully linear, half the bosses were totally bland and it was short overall. Sigh.
Still want a HD remake though; if any Zelda deserve it , it's this but I hope they preserve the dreamy bloom lighting. Making it crystal clear sharp would ruin the visual uniqueness of the game
@@netweed09 what you mean with linear? I mean It's not a sandbox and how the game progresses is compared to OoT. And still being linear isn't something bad, in my opinion, for the story it has is perfect. You couldn't get the same effect if its an open world game. Bosses are great, I personally loved Grahim, Demise and Tentalus, but more variety would have been great. And short isn't either. 7 dungeons were perfect for the story, plus the different secondary scenarios. Probably I misinterpreted something?
@@5id. Well yea I understand some people still like linear games.
But I feel generally , Open World is the mature way to go about things, no one likes petty invisible walls and corridor gaming in 2020 anymore.
That said, Skyward is in my top5 Zeldas: it is the rare exception. It's story was solid but the direction and art was so full of charm and originality, I was almost in tears (lol sorry)
I still go back and play when I can.
Breath1 could not even hope to have Skyward's finesse in storyline and characters - it even straight up rips off the Springs and Loftwing statues (although, so ironic every version in Breath1's references are smaller than Skywards 'real' life enitites
Plot twist: Koloktos was a seven year old girl this whole time
yeah, couldn't resist
Or inside of him/her was the soul of the kid from Majora's Mask.
Karter Davis That doesn't make much sense with this being pre-majora mask,
ryutheslayer123 xplain how you know this? and I've been told 6
Karter Davis um Majora's mask takes place after this game sometime after this game
For those who don’t know the laughs in its death scene are actually in the Splatoon 1 game if you recon the map when it’s dark out and if you stand in the center of the map on the spinning thing you may be able to hear yeh statues laughing in response with each other
That's why I came to watch this
Taking an ennemy's weapon,a fucking giant sword, just to proceed to open his ribcage and destroy him with repeated assaults of epic slashes.

it emits child-like laughter when it dies. Creepy.
That’s why koloktos is my fav boss in all games

The music always gives me chills and this boss fight is so satisfying. More so than in my favorite title of the series, even. The ancient, Buddhist inspired imagery works so well with the aura this thing puts off. It’s awesome in every sense of the word... plus beating it up with its own weapons after ripping its arms off is so darn cool. I wish Nintendo could hit gold like this with all of their bosses!
For a game that had so many bad bosses( at least in my opinion) it ironically has one of the BEST Zelda bosses of all time. Koloktos is just an epic fight, especially when he tears himself out of the ground. When I saw that the first time it blew my mind O.O
Jarrecko yeah the daughter of mike wachoski (a kraken would have been nice) was pretty lame also the fire boulder and the imprisoned was pretty repetitive
+semillakan6 fire boulder was cool in my opinion

i would love to go up to ghirahim with the giant sword and be like "try me"

Link is a beast. Being able to pick up that giant sword and swing it around like nothing. While having all that stuff on him.
Koloktos has by far most favorite zelda boss theme.
Even though it's Larsa the tomb raider all over again, I still love this boss fight. It's really intimidating.
As chuggaaconroy said: “This fight is basically Breath of the Wild before Breath of the Wild was Breath of the Wild.”
@@empty00_ correct
I loved BOTW, but it had shit bosses. Next game: just plop four Koloktoses in there. You can thank me later, Nintendo.
Conchobhar thunderblight Ganon was kind of tough, but not really agonizing like some bosses, also lynels weren’t bad, but there were so many of them that it got old.
well, the blights kinda look like this guy
it would have been pretty cool if all the divine beasts had their own aesthetic and devices, and the blights possessed some of their respective beasts' tech to make a unique fight
Thunderblight Ganon was just annoying. I hate that speedblitzing shit. I usually love difficult boss battles but if I can't even see or react to what the fuck I did wrong then that annoys me only. I love when I'm able to see how a boss works but just aren't able to do it yet because I'm not skilled enough. When you finally get it down perfectly without taking any damage and manage to give the boss the initiative to attack as rarily as possible then you feel like an absolute god.
I agree when you say that these ones were much more creative, but don't diss the Blights.
100% true. In my opinion, the weakest aspects of BoTW were the bosses and dungeons. If only we could get Skyward Sword quality dungeons and bosses but BoTW overworld :/
Hey, I realized something!
This boss is just like the rest of the temple: it as buddhist/indian look of the surface (the armor) will it also have that weird creepy side that's underneath the cistern (the purple/black stuff that attach the limbs and that laugh at the end). Also, something tell me it as the same purpose as Gohdan in Wind Waker, put there by the gods to protect something (the Farore Flame). But unlike Gohdan, Koloktos is boosted by Ghirahim magic. One part by the gods, one part by the demons. The beautiful side and the creepy side of the ancient cistern. And yes, I know that the temple is inspired by a buddhist legend. that would also means that the rivers of poison in the undergroudn of the cistern are actually rivers of BLOOD. I'm not kidding, look up TV Tropes.

The first stage is literally the same thing as Gooper Blooper's fight from Super Mario Sunshine.
Silvermace not really but okay.
Never really thought of it that way... but good compare
This boss along with Stallord and Ganondorf from TP are without a doubt some of the best bosses in the entire Zelda series
It had been a long time since a Zelda boss fight got this intense when I played this game. I hadn't felt the rush of almost dying on a boss fight in years. I love this game.
This battle was a huge shout out to all the Wind Waker fans.
Liftable swords, a room taken straight from The Tower of the Gods, breakable pillars, and an ancient-robot boss just like in that dungeon. Damn I flashbacked so hard when he started smashing pillars and dropping swords.
4:00, the best part. The music gets more louder, more epic. And you get to pick up the big ass swords and just fucking slam them into Koloktos. This boss fight always gets me hyped every single playthrough.
Dude they should make an anime off of skyward sword but like actually well made (unlike that joke ass of a cartoon we got) take for example Nier Automata, they're making an anime off of it and it's crazy both the game and anime, besides Skyward sowed and probably most of the Zelda games are so anime - like to say the least
I wish guardians were more like this, instead of their legs just being there for you to chop up for loot they could’ve actually done something with it.
yes pls
A year later, and it seems that will be the case in Age of Calamity.
Skyward Sword HD is coming to Nintendo Switch! :D
If Koloktos has legs, a grate to cover its core, and six GIANT swords, why didn't it use them from the start?
Also, that laugh. **shudders**
Because it probably thought it would be better to keep a distance with the boomerang things.
When that wasn't working it was probably like "fuck it" and whipped out the swords.
and get this, he actually has enough sense, TO KEEP HIS DANG WEAK SPOT COVERED!!!!
Just when you think you’re done:
It grows legs and becomes more aggressive. 😭
There's nothing more cathartic than tearing into the heart of a giant boss with its own huge swords. It just feels so *AWESOME.*
I like how this guy calmly back flips to avoid the axes in this fight, while I panicked and ran in circles just to get killed like a noob ._.

Bro actually gives zero craps about what you have to say. If not for him being the villain, I'd admire that level of not caring
I find his death animation terrifying but I love it
The laughter that thing makes reminds me of the laughter the Inkling Statues in Splatoon have done during Splatfest.
Beautiful music, Stunning animation, outstanding graphics, fantastic story, unforgetable characters, terrible controls XD
I agree totally but the controls were alright
Terrible UI, too. Look how much shit is covering the screen.
I made it to demise and my Wii motion + stoped working, very Dissapointed
Conchobhar you can turn it off
Conchobhar You can customize how much of the UI you want on the screen
Can we also just say how great of a villain Ghirahim is? His dialogue makes me think of a flamboyant hairdresser who woke up one morning and chose violence
So the substance inside koloktos is a black and purple goop
Malice?
BOTW introduced me to Zelda and that was my first thought when I saw this guy. His design has a lot in common with the blights, being metal held together with purple goo.
Aku The Master of Masters that could be malice because under the Ancient cistern cursed bokoblins drop malice core so yes malice could animate Koloktos
Malice has been around for a looooong time...
QuantumStorm Games That’s literally the only thing they have in common
That music for the Klocktos fight is some of the best in any Zelda game. I love getting to use that giant scimitar in the fight as well. Plus you close out with upgrading the Goddess Sword to it's best look. I always like to call it the Courage Sword after that.
Plus I liked this Link enough that I tracked down his amiibo so I could get his outfit for Breath of the Wild.
The floor, was his PANTS!
-Chuggaaconroy
So does that mean when phase two begins you technically got him to remove his pants? Is Link trans-mechanical now?
6:42 when i was tiny this scene disturbed me an lot
Theory: Splatoon and Legend of Zelda universe is connected. Since most of you come from the splatoon statue. Once Koloktos have been defeated, and after humans were extinct, and come along the Inklings, Koloktos became just some rusty metal. The Inklings found the ancient Koloktos just to restore him to become a statue. Koloktos's spirit were still in there, so that's how it laughs.
Such an underrated Zelda game overall but this boss though... that seconf phase music.... one of the most satisfying bosses to fight in TLOZ honestly~
Notice when it dies the smile on its face gets bigger
It also makes a little girl like giggle upon death.
Videl Awn look guys, I spotted the liberal
It's just happy that you ended its suffering.
If I was an ancient soul that has existed for thousands of years, I would be happy when dying as well.
Yuki Lulamoon yeah and it's eyes
yeah that part is so creepy!
There is something more to this boss death, that I can't figure out. First the twitching, then the "laughing child" sound, then the metal mask transforming into a happier face before finally slamming to the ground in its original form.
Definitely one of my favorite bosses ever. Man I hope they make a Skyward Sword remake for switch!
I know it’s late, but your wish has been granted! XD
You know those bosses as kids you thought were SUPER scary but then when you got older they weren't? ...Well THIS, is not one of them. This boss will always be terrifying, no matter what age you are.
