    Just clocked up 4500 miles since middle of may. Got the manual in red as well. I love it a bit of a hooligan bike in sport mode. Engine is lovely. Handles great .The most ive done in a day is 350 miles around Wales. A nackerd when I got home but no different to any other bike ive owned.

    First review I have seen on the manual version and as always your honesty is appreciated. I sense that the DCT version is much better judging by other reviews. My Mrs has her eye on this and will be onto Farnham Honda shortly for a test ride. She will make sure she mentions your name while she's there!

    I have a Rebel 500 as my first bike. Love it but , yeah, need some more power. Now this 1100 is on my list with the Indian scout. Great vid!

    This bike is growing on me... quite a hooligan machine. Great engine! Shame about the damping. Is the suspension better than the Honda Shadow's or similar?

    As far as I know this bike can't be restricted to meet A2 license requirements. It's similar to many of the old school looking Triumphs in that regard.
    Maybe there will be a kit to restrict it at some point, but I'm guessing there wont be seeing how it shares its engine with the Africa Twin which obviously cant be restricted either.
    It would probably cause some people to complain why they're not making the Africa Twin A2 compliant as well. But just a guess.

      The reason the Africa Twin can't be restricted to A2 is that the engine exceeds the 95bhp maximum bhp as a base. The AT has 100bhp, whereas the Rebel has 85bhp due to a different ECU map and some other internal changes. There might be other rules about max displacement being not eligible for A2 though.

      @@Englishbikerdan Yes, but other brands tend to make A2 compliant versions of bigger bikes. For example KTM with the 890 or Aprilia with their 660s, Triumph with the Street Triple and so on.
      What I meant was that people would probably complain that there is no 95hp version of the Africa Twin if they'd show that the Rebel can easily be restricted.
      But again, that's just a guess.

      @@derweiehelge9087 Honda could certainly do a 95bhp version and I'm sure that's been discussed, but my bet is they are waiting for the AT 850 which will have less than 95bhp. Makes more sense financially instead of spending money adjusting a current powerplant. It's also why Triumph made the Tiger 850. We'll see anyway!

    Id love to see you review the euro 5 LXR, i have the black and gold one myself and its fun to ride in town just struggles on the A roads and motorways bless it but it does do 70 if you tuck 🤣 ive had 73 banging off the limiter 😅 Done 1800 miles in 2 months of ownership and enjoying it. Would even let you use mine for a review haha.

    Test rode this in July and loved it. Not so sure about longer journeys as you point out. Weak points are single front disc and ugly exhaust can as so many of us have said. Sounds beautiful, good value. My only hope is they put this engine in a tourer for short arses like me, rumour has it an NT1100 is on the way

    I’m new to your channel. Found it when I was looking for a review of the CMX500 and CMX1100 Rebel’s. Enjoyed both reviews. I’ve been biking for 50 years now and currently own a Honda Blackbird which I’m now finding less comfortable and big. I only potter about these days so don’t need anything so big and fast. I like the look of the Rebels but is the 1100 worth the extra 4K?

    Great bike i was thinking about getting the Rebel 500cc but i saw this just game out at my Honda Dealer. but if i get the passenger seat for the back for my wife, it looks like it would be Uncomfortable for her. There's not much Cushion at all. i Presume Honda made it for a one person Motorcycle. and besides since the finder look so low in the back, the back finder would hit the wheel all the time. something to think about but anyways great video.

      The scott is a polaris, is best to get the chief at least it looks proper. Now this Rebell is very good, now you have to Dial the suspencion with youe wait. Stock is too soft and only for people with less than 180 lbs. Above 200lbs you need to tighten the suspension a bit more fi not the rear battoms out.

    I remember people wondering _why_ Honda decided to make the Rebel 1100. They agree that the bike is alright/good but are confused by its existence.
    I _think_ Honda released this bike to keep the Rebel 300/500 buyers within the Honda family whenever they decide to switch up bikes. "You liked the Rebel 500 enough to buy as a first bike, so why not trade-up on _this_! Larger engine capacity, more power & torque in a layout already familiar to you, what's not to like!"

      I wouldn't understand why people are confused by the existence of this bike. I got my full license last year and had the Rebel 500 originally chosen as my first bike but after a while I felt it would be to small so I did not buy it. Rumors came up with the 1100 model but when I wanted to buy a bike it was not released yet. If it were I would have been totally into the Rebel 1100.
      So even if you're not upgrading from the Rebel 500 there are most probably plenty of people which go for this bike now that it exists. It's bigger, more powerful, it has actual sound and a nice price tag given what it is.
      It is a competitor to some Harley Davidson models as well. I don't see any reason not to put this bike out on the market.

      @@gauntr I don't really know either. It makes sense now too, now that the last-gen Sportster is dead, and the next-gen guaranteed to cost a _lot_ more money comparatively this is one of the least expensive large-engined cruisers you can get.

      From Cycle World's review article of the Rebel 1100:
      "Honda claims that 88 percent of Rebel 500 owners purchase a larger-displacement motorcycle within the first 18 months of ownership. Honda’s problem here is that 73 percent of those purchases are outside the Honda brand. Honda’s dilemma here is to figure out how to keep those riders. Provide a larger bike they can graduate to after outgrowing the smaller model? Or provide a motorcycle that’s similar to learn on, but with enough staying power to outlast that 18-month margin?"
      The 1100 fills that niche wonderfully for people that either start on the smaller cc Rebels and are ready to upgrade or someone starting out but is worried the power output of the 300/500cc engines will grow old too quickly. As for other (brand new) cruisers from Honda, really the only other bike that's available is the Shadow 750, which in regards to power/weight ratio has nearly the same number as the *300cc* Rebel. Granted, the Shadow has worse parasitic loss to the ground due to it using shaft drive instead of chain which has its own advantages over chain but I digress. There's also the Honda Fury but that is designed to be a factory chopper so that can be omitted in this comparison IMO.
      For ~10k USD MSRP, for what you get with this motorcycle (DCT as an option, cruise control, riding modes, traction control/wheelie control, ABS, etc), it is a helluva deal for someone wanting a cruiser on the smaller side that has power to keep you entertained for a while, depending on what kind of power you're used to prior to purchase if this is not your first motorcycle and has amenities to be up-to-date and not feel barebones.

    Slackening off the preload will make zero difference to the harshness/softness of the ride on that bumpy road, or any road for that matter. Preload is to adjust for bike load, e.g. pillion, to get the suspension in a reasonable part of its stroke, preferably about 25%-30% when loaded. Adjustable damping is what you want which that bike doesn't provide of course. Pays your money etc.

      But if the preload/rider sag isn't set correctly for weight it absolutely affects how the bike performs on the bumpy stuff. So I do get your point, damping/rebound adjustment is what you'd want to be able to adjust, but preload will also affect how well the shocks work. I've over adjusted my preload before and it made the rear feel harsh and skittish as the rear had very little movement to work with. These feel a bit harsh/skittish stock. Maybe I'm just too heavy! 😞

      @@Englishbikerdan The CMX1100 Rebel is set up way too soft from the factory, so it feels too hard, but that is because you keep bottoming out. Adjusting the preload so you stop bottoming out makes it a much much better ride.

      @@Englishbikerdan Well, agreed to a point. If you are heavy and have very little preload you could be sitting well down in the stroke and bottom out on a bad road or if you have minimum preload and you are light enough you could be sitting to high in the stroke with little suspension rebound available to use as the shock gets fully extended. Both situations are just preload adjusted out of their range for the given weight. Stick with 25%-30% sag and any rider should be good to go at the given fixed damping setup. Any bike without damping adjustment, such as my CB1100, is just a compromise for all weights, regardless of preload. Two riders 50kg apart will have a different damping experience on the same bike because of that. The lighter rider will find it harsher than the heavier rider. Too heavy, no, I am too heavy!

      Comment is 2yrs old so curious what you ended up with? I’ve had a buell blast, vrod, street glide that I just traded in for the rebel 1100. So far it’s similar to the buell weight much better in corners than the vrod and street glide and much faster than the street glide. Kinda growing on me

    how is the suspension on the bike? Especially the rear? Do you feel a jolt thru your lower back every time you hit a bump on the highway? I had a CTX700 and got rid of it because there was not much rear wheel travel.

    Nice video Dan, Nice bike. Not my type of bike but it does look nice and the power is very punchy. much better than the Rebel 500. I do like that dash. Would be good to see a dash like that on the CB range as it would fit in with the retroness (think I just made up a word there) good to see you out and about. Be cool to see the DCT version :)

    Yeh, Honda brakes do seem a bit wooden. I think a set of sportier pads would make all the difference.
    As for the second disc on the front... unless you're going to track it there's no point. The pads alone should be enough.
    If it means anything to anyone, the hydraulic force ratio (mechanical advantage, not accounting for lever length) is about 7:1 both front and rear on my 650R. If you reef on them they're good, but if you're going for effortless braking I'd get a different master cylinder, with less piston area.

    One of the mistakes a lot of reviewers make is judging a bikes size to wether it would be suitable for a starter rider, I would not recommend an 1100 to a new rider, start with 3 or 5, size can be deceiving and this bike would kill a lot of new riders on sport.

    1100 and it's been detuned, should have 100+ hp like the Africa twin.
    Sad, if anything it should be tuned up a bit more like 110hp.

    Like the color totally agree twin front discs for sure it looks the part and if I had a stable of bike I would consider it over all not sure at £9,000 + good job as always : ) cheers

    My air cooled 1100s Multistrada put out more than that engine. It’s nice, I’m just surprised that an LC can’t beat that output.

      It's an unstressed engine for sure. Plenty of torque though.

    An okay review but kind of off on a few points. For one, this bike is made in Japan. VIN makes that obvious. Transport fee different for Japan vs Thailand. Fit and finish quality is obviously higher than the Thai bikes, too. Also, why criticize extra lighting that makes the bike way more visible at night? "Oh, I'm a sophisticated Brit. These stupid lights must be because of stupid Americans." Then go ride an authentic British bike like a Bonneville. Wait, they fired the whole factory.

      Many Honda's are built in Japan as well as Thailand. The 500 series including the Rebel, as well as the Honda 650 series. Pretty sure some of these 1100's are made in Thailand. I can criticise anything that I don't like. Simply put, I don't like the indicators being on all the time. Feel free to do your own review though! Easy to sit on your arse and criticise others isn't it! 😊

      @@Englishbikerdan Maybe the ones in England are built in Thailand, but I doubt they have two factories for these. They have Japanese VINs. 500s are irrelevant. Totally different model line. You are free to have dislikes. I just think that particular criticism is really dumb.

      @@phillipsmith1489 They have two factories for multiple lines, this was due to the increased demand in sales during the pandemic and Thailand simply couldn't keep up. I know this as I had two Honda 650's and they had different VIN prefix, one denoting Japanese built and the other Thai built. You are welcome to think it's dumb, I don't see how having indicators running constantly makes things safer. If someone can't see the main beam then there's little hope! :D
