First broadcast January 28, 1961, "Bank Run" was one of several second-season Bonanza episodes directed by Robert Altman. Left in charge of the Ponderosa, Joe Cartwright receives word that town banker Harrison (Ian Wolfe) plans to create a phony bank panic so he can foreclose on a mining property for a quick financial turnover. To thwart Harrison's machinations, Joe decides to stage a bank robbery-and drags a reluctant Hoss into the scheme. Written on rottentomatoes.com
Reviews:
"Cartwright characters: Joe and Hoss (Ben and Adam had smaller roles)
This is one of the humorous episodes. It's one of my favorites. I love seeing the bad boy side of Joe and Hoss. I can only imagine what they were like growing up. I'm sure they were taken to the woodshed a lot!
In this episode, Joe was playing telegrapher while his friend went to get something. Joe gets a message that a bank is closing. Before giving the message to the bank, he discovered that there was a scheme to hurt a nice, old man. So...
Joe and Hoss rob the bank. That's right - THEY ROB THE BANK!!! What follows is a series of events that leaves one laughing! I loved how Ben took everything so seriously, and in the end told Adam he would be pressing some charges against Joe and Ben. This shows how strict and loving of a father he was. Even though Joe and Hoss had the best of intentions, they still needed to be taught that their way of doing things was not good.
I loved Joe's confrontation with his father. Priceless!
Better yet: Nobody was hurt in the making of this episode...really!" Written by mitchrmp on IMDb.com
"Poor Hoss must have felt like Fredo Corleone the son the Don skipped over as a successor. Ben Cartwright puts Little Joe in charge when he and Adam go away. And Michael Landon handles it beautifully.
With the best of intentions Landon talks the gullible Dan Blocker into robbing the Harrison Bank of Virginia City. Ian Wolfe the Harrison in charge has ordered the Virginia City branch closed. Dan Tobin and Owen Bush decide to skip out with the bank's deposits before Wolfe steals it.
Using his decision making authority Michael Landon decides to rob the bank before any of them. All this leads to an episode laced with humor as these two financial geniuses try to avoid all kinds of criminal charges with a nervous Lorne Greene worried about losing the Ponderosa trying to make up for what his dimwit sons have done.
A few laughs guaranteed in this story." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

So enjoyable. Little Joe to Hoss, 'When was the last time you washed your hair?' Hoss, "Last month.'
with sheep dip!
I guess hygiene was not uppermost in people's minds back then.
No wonder they boiled a baby's everything!
@@scootergurl it’s why there was so many pandemics in the west, women tended to bathe once a week, men longer
The main problem people had is that they didn’t really have access to water, what water they did have either went to stock and other farm animals, and for drinking
They couldn’t waste water daily just for bathing when it could’ve meant life or death for their animals
This episode is legitimately hysterical - love that the writers didn’t take themselves too seriously and allowed the cast to have a silly time. I also love the added cartoony sound effects haha!
This was one of the best western shows going from 59 to 73 or so and still love them today
After Ben and Adam left, that look Joe gave to Hoss was hilarious. 4:44
So fiendish, I love it :D caught me off guard too
Poor Hoss, he knows nothing good can come from that look.
@@user-pd7il3xz5j It seems like Hoss has some payback coming to him from mistreating Joe when Hoss was boss.
Its a shame they don't make quality, wholesome westerns like this anymore. Loved this show as a kid, still love it today.
@@rogerjoseph2532 I agree. This one was the best. I liked it better than The big Valley, liked it better than the Rifleman. Like you said, it's the best.
They try to make westerns with cars in it. I can watch it.
From I was a kid too love me some Bonanza when I watch it I sleep peacefully it's soothing 😂🤣
From I was a kid too love me some Bonanza when I watch it I sleep peacefully it's soothing 😂🤣yup
I don't know about wholesome but Yellowstone is a great Western , basically an R rated Bonanza if you ask me.
Had 2 watch it twice. Just what
I needed. Joe and hoss r always up to sumthg and Joe is. The one who gets them in it. Adam knew it was going g to b sumthg when Ben left Joe in charge. Lol grew up watching bonanza loved it then and still do now in 2022 thank u. Keep them coming.
My Little Joe is "the devil in disguise"!!! That look after Pa Ben and Adam left prove it!!!! 😀😃
Sometimes these episodes reveal reality- heart and actions of bankers.
This whole episode was hilarious, and when Ben saw the wanted poster, and hit the Sheriff's desk with his hand, ouch. And when Ben gave Little Joe the boss's shoes, it was obvious some shenanigans were coming. 😂🤣
It was so hilarious that they got their ass whipped by the skinny old guy for stealing the mules. That cracked me up. 🤣
@Richard Branam. Yeah. I noticed that Adam thought right away that leaving Little Joe in charge was a huge mistake. This episode was hilarious!! 😅
It was hilarious. And preposterous.
B.C. hit the sheriff's desk on cue. But he so did it harder than he expected too!
Loved the dragnet type music they played when Hoss was standing watch outside the bank.
And the Tom and Jerry music too.
Detective Joe Cartwright proved he was well on his way to grow up to become Detective Joe Friday.
Omg same! I thought i was the only one that recognized!
Shout out from one Behemoth to another
Especially in Virginia city, Hoss shading hie eyes under his Huge hat , between hi girth and hat everyone knew it was HOSS Cartwright playing detective! LOL 😆.
I love It. I grew up watching western movies. I am 39 and I still love them
I’m 68 and concur with you.
41 here. I LOVE Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Maverick, The Rifleman, Have Gun Will Travel, Wagon Train, and Rawhide.
I’m 61 and concur with you too.
I'm 63 and I concur with you! All of you!
Would have loved to have the wanted poster with hoss and little Joe's faces on it. Great stuff and I love all the comments. Peace
I Loved Bonanza Especially Adam and Ben They were My Personal Favorites
Little Joe and Hoss as bank robbers, what a mess!!! Real fun!!!
This show always points out that crooks come in all shapes and sizes. From the rambling malcontent to the organized robber barons.
I loved the part when Ben saw the wanted posters and music when the camera zoomed in on it and when he hit hand
Brilliant episode, very funny, the way Adam looked at his father the whole time was so hilarious. Those brothers are awesome, loved it. Certainly don't get such great shows like this anymore.

I loved how they played the Dragnet theme or part of it. Very funny
Good old Hoss and Little Joe. Standing up to swindling bankers.
I truly enjoyed this episode!! Mr. Cartwright is a straight up man.
The
That's what sets Bonanza apart from other westerns. They don't depend on shooting, killing, and fist fights. Comedy is a great change .
Wonderfull episode. It's all about bank robbery. I enjoyed this vedio very much. Western Classics. One of my favorites.

Love how the writers of this show turned a dirty, rotten trick into a comedy. 😍
When Little Joe tells Hoss to whitewash the barn, I think that is an interesting term for painting. Old school is the only school. 🖌
Hoss :"Hey Joe ! what are you, what are doing?
Joe : Ah, robbing a bank.Well come on, we're in this together. 18:37 😅😅
Ben's facial expressions is priceless, what a funny episode 🤣
32:08 Adam is trying so hard not to laugh at his brother but he's not doing a very good job. 😂
I'm binge-watching all of Bonanza's episodes and I've enjoyed every single one that I have watched so far.
Thank you Grjngo for posting the videos.

San Francisco Bay Area ❤️🌴
I am too, I love this channel! And although I'm not in SF now, I love the Bay Area! 🥰🌉🌁
White wash the smoke house - little Joe is a bloody rascal 🤠
I liked the older Bonanza shows with Adam in them
I remember back in the 80s. Watching reruns with my whole family.❤
The mules? Oh the mules. Tell them Joe!!!! 😀😃
This episode i have never seen before. Am enjoying it.
Happy to hear that. With so many episodes it's easy to miss one! 🤠👌🍿🎬

So good.. My childhood on display
Glad you enjoyed it! 🤠👌🎬🍿
I am always impressed by how clean these old west people were. Finely fitted and freshly laundered clothing, there must have been several Chinese dry cleaner businesses in Virginia City
LOL. Actually the Chinese laundry business is shown in some of the very first episodes.
Yes they have
I got a kick out of the little Irishman who said it's Hoss and Wee Joseph Cartwright 😂❤!
Awesome show love bonanza
Love this show. Thanks for the post.
Michael Landon was so young here
This episode came out right about the time that Shotgun Slade was at the height of its popularity. I wonder if that is what inspired the jazz score in this one.
Sort of a wirely little man ain't he. LOL
Looks like you can’t even comment without negative feed back from some of the other people. Anyways I’m a fan and will continue to support this channel. Thanks for uploading!
The distance between Placerville, CA and Virginia City, NV is 118 Km in straight line.
I think Ben is taking it very well
If Any Family be like This Nowadays The World Would be Save
Abudabi himonoway
True true!!
Here we go again...someone is always trying to get Ponderosa land...Joe was young, listen to his high pitched voice🙂
Love the music @27:00.
Don't ask what happened to the music in the later seasons, but it certainly is good in the early seasons.
Hoss and Little Joe likely got whooped from one end to the Ponderosa and back after this was over
This was a great episode!!!! It was hilarious! Lol.
One and only Bonanza...☝
Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this old series.
Best regards luck and health.
Everytime Little Joe smiles I can't help but picture Jim Carreys impression of him.
This episode was funny! Thanks for sharing, just what I needed: A good laugh that lasted almost an hour :)
Glad to hear that, thanks for tuning in! 👌🎬
Me 2 had 2 watch 2 times loved it.
This episode was actually funny.
Is it just me or is the comedy episode of Bonanza the more popular episodes
24:51 😂😂😂 perfect sound effect to describe a throbbing pain.
One of my favourite episodes
Ben told little Joe to in charge the Ponderosa during Ben & Adam away from home . Ben told Adam that he expected Joe could develop his sense of responsibility . But we could see from Adam 's facial expression that he didn't think so. Adam thought that Little Joe might cause trouble. Very funny, little Joe, Adam knew Little Joe very much, 😂😂😂
This was great fun to watch. Thanks so much.
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching. 🤠👌🎬🍿
I’ve never seen this episode of the cartwright boys but it is just so hilarious too too funny!!!
Owen Bush played the Bank manager in Virginia City. He was also in "The Andy Griffith Show." Walter Burke played the rich little man (he was only 5'1" tall in real life) with the Irish accent. He was also in an episode of "Hogan's Heroes."
Wasn't he the safecracker in Hogan's Heroes.
@@timothykozlowski2945 I don't know.
When little Joe when in the bank, It turned into Dragnet
Directed by Robert Altman! Not his finest moment, but still enjoyable.
"Won't negotiate? Negotiation is the backbone of our civilization. FORCE him to negotiate!" I see this guy was in charge of American/Japanese relations circa 1853
That first scene was written by someone that knows of the Rothschild family. And that guy has a look and flat of Satan. Very fitting, and accurate scene. Now, on with the rest of the episode.
I watch this everyday
An early episode, easily dated by the clever score, which includes a take-off on the Dragnet theme, and the Philip Morris commercial! Also, the plot was pretty thin compared to the more meaty material of the later years. Good though, thanks!
1836 was just like today! Some old billion are who looks like he has about two days left. Wanting more! It was a sickness then and now!
0006 was probably like that too.
@@lindalawon9151Old and greedy , on the spot the last thing you said .
"Yeah I just made the same mistake." 🤣🤣🤣
That was a delightful episode.
I love the Geech books written by Jerry Bittle. He is such a funny character. He told his boss Merle, who owned the garage where Geech works that he and his friend liked to play cowboys and idiots when they were kids. He went into a store and asked if he could use their restroom and the man told him that he was sorry, that they didn’t have a public restroom. Geech told him that was okay because he liked the ones with little doors on them anyway. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
In spite of "Hollywoodness" Ben Cartright's a good example of a prosperous person who's well balanced. I know this is a hooky episode by today's standards, but greed still seems to rule the world and I have a feeling there's a spiritual element that will show itself soon to the world.

So true
Lordy...I hope so !
"Force him to negotiate." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wonderful episode! Funny and creative.
A great funny episode from Bonaza, when Little Joe & Hoss Cartwright have to be ready by themselves but Pa Benjamin Cartwright & Adam Cartwright have to deal with them. ( Alia Mohammed & Cassandra Fox are getting into trouble 😵💫 & deal with Isabella Sampourni & Sadie Marquardt.)
GREATNESS ONCE AGAIN
Best. Episode. Ever. 😂
This was awesome loved. Funny.
Me divertir bastante com esse episódio,o Joe é muito bom, e salvou o dinheiro 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰.

"You sure your hair don't need washing.
I just washed it last month. 😭
S2 E19
24:50 The poster has Joe's height at 5'11". Michael Landon was only 5'9" and wore 4" lifts in his shoes
Those drawings are way too good.
Love the Dragnet tune!
I really liked this episode. And I especially loved the way Ben handled the situation. I would be the same way with my boys. A father can only believe his sons if the sons tell the truth. But once If I did find they were being dishonest their would be hell to pay. That's what you call good honest parenting. Especially since they were supposed to be minding the Ranch.
The cartwright boys got beaten up by an old man lol its so funny
Funny one!!!😀
46:43 - BLOOPER: Joe: "Ma will let you be boss for awhile." A goof!
I think he said, "Tomorrow, I will let you be boss for a while.
@01:38 see the swastika pattern on Mr. Harrison's (Harriman's) left shoulder?
Ancient symbol
Bonanza serie excelente ❤
Amusing
Joe and Hoss in another incarnation could be a couple from heaven. They fit each other like a glove🥰
The dollar amounts used in Bonanza seem totally out of whack. A thousand dollars for a bull? That would be around 23 thousand dollars today.
Sounds right to me.
@@AndrewVelonis ya think?

Nesecita k las series de bonanza sean en español
Have fight trying take ponderosa away from Cartwright family not that easy
Enjoyed it!

I watched it for about the 5th time.
FUNNEEEE
With the glaring exception that the Truckee river flows OUT of lake Tahoe.
