Cafes have become such an important symbol in our lives. Whether it be a franchise coffee shop like Starbucks or a third-wave premium cafe house in your neighbourhood, they have been a place for many people to congregate and enjoy. It is not uncommon for you to be attracted to start such a food business.
But how do you exactly start a coffee shop?
It starts off with figuring our YOUR WHY. Why do you want to open one? Any food business is a long road of stress and hardwork. If you don't know your why, you'll end up giving up when times get tough. Next you'll need to consider your concept (will you have dine-in space or have it like a mobile cafe?) and the location. Knowing the nuances of your location (destination vs. high traffic) will be integral in your success. After that you'll want to think about your costs, menu, branding, and then putting it all together in a coffee shop business plan.

I currently working on my own cafe. It scares me a lot since I don’t have any backgrounds on how to operate a cafe. I will open it this coming January 2021. By the way I am nurse who loves coffee.
Great to hear that you're deciding to take that leap and create that dream cafe of yours! I didn't have any exp. either when I first started my ice cream shop. Most people don't and even if they do...they'll never be ready for all the things that are thrown at you when you do own your own shop. For now - consume as much info as possible and ask for help in our Facebook Group. It should guide you in the process.

Hey Sophia great to hear that the video was helpful for you! If you have the aspirations (a really good reason why) and drive then it is possible for sure. One thing people make the mistake is not understanding that it takes a really long time to plan out a business. Like a year long before renos even start. So unless you have an actual deadline in your head, it is good to use this time to keep consuming resources and consider different concepts before you take that leap in say building a business plan etc. :)

I’m hoping to have a cafe hybrid of Korean style drinks and snacks as well as some American, but the main thing I want to achieve is for it to be a welcoming, safe, and cozy environment for everyone. And since I love art, and of course I’m never ever giving art up, maybe there could be like a gallery place as well in the cafe! Like an art cafe thingy

Yes!! That is actually what I've been seeing recently. Cafes in Korea and Asia with painting, drawing and sculpting component. There was a cafe here in Vancouver where it was a cafe at the entrance, and the rest of the building is a gallery. Tables were scattered around the place to sit and do work at. So you could be doing work beside a very intricate oil painting. It was a very different experience. The only gripe I had with that spot was that it felt like you had to be dead silent in there. I have a video coming up with different cafe concepts I've seen online to give inspiration to people of what's possible! Watch out for that :)

I've been pigging out on all your videos. I typically don't get enthralled in one persons YT series because they don't feed me the information I'm looking for, however you've fed med! I find myself watching your videos of information that I thought I already knew until I discover new material. One main thing I like is how your info is STRAIGHTFORWARD. My best friend and I have talked about opening a bakery for her and a cafe for me so we’d combine the two and I get to be my own barista/manager and we’d wake up early in the am and I can make her coffee while she starts the breads and cookies.

You have lots of time to work towards it! It won't be easy and you're going to fail. But it's part of the journey. It's like learning how to bike for the first time - super hard at first and you eventually figure it out. I am 20 and I am a first year University student. I don’t like studying as much and just want to work hard and push through to get my career. I always wanted to open a business and run a business and I love making coffee, tea and food. I also applied for various jobs with no experience and I struggle to find work as a student. I really want to begin my own restaurant and I want a coffee shop as well. This is my passion and I hope to begin it in a few years.
