I once worked for county government - there were way, way too many supervisors for the number of employees in my department.
At one point, layoffs began occurring due to a downturn in the housing market (our income would come from recording deeds and mortgages, as well as the doc stamps for them). Plenty of employees were laid off, but not one manager.
    Not one.

Pay people well and don't micromanage them.

So you're telling me that by cutting management, you can pay your employees more and give them a larger share of meaningful responsibility, and it improves moral? Who could have figured!

If you want loyal employees who go above their job duties, keep them Salary Captive.

Where I work, I have two immediate supervisors and I never see them. They leave me alone to do my thing. I'm happy. The job is done. They're happy. We only ever contact each other if there's a problem or a question.

In my experience, most supervisors and/or managers just make the job more stressful with their micromanaging and looking over your shoulder all the time. They basically get paid way more to do way less. It makes sense not to have any more than are absolutely needed and give that money to the workers.

"Only the money" Hahahaha!!! That's funny!!! YEAH, MAN! ONLY THE MONEY she needs to eat, pay the rent, LIVE!!! The name of the game is CAPITALISM, you know it???? Wanna have someone working for you?? Gotta pay them! Good paying good workers. That's basics.

It’s both they pay and the lack of micromanage here I think. But yes

Takes away the adversarial nature: Give people a fence and they’ll spend their time looking to get out.
Who would have thought if you give people a reason to stay, they’d not leave and would develop a passion for their work?
I think everyone knows on some level that this is how things should be done.

They all said it was more than they could get anywhere else.
If it's not good, everywhere else is worse.
