Alan Blyth : "Bien que les enregistrements en studio de Kathleen Ferrier pour DECCA nous en disent beaucoup sur elle en tant qu'artiste, et l'ont fait aimer de gens qui n'aurait jamais pu l'entendre en personne, il ne fait aucun doute dans mon esprit que - comme tant d'artistes - l'inspiration d'un public a ajouté ce petit quelque chose de plus à ses performances. Il est certain que ce récital d'Édimbourg se rapproche davantage du Ferrier dont je me souviens dans la salle de concert que la plupart de ce qu'elle a réalisé en studio.
Quelques semaines après avoir donné ce récital, Ferrier et Bruno Walter ont répété le même programme au Central Hall de Londres. J'étais présent à cette dernière occasion et je me souviens encore aujourd'hui de la vive impression qu'elle m'a faite. Lorsque la BBC a déterré la bande sur laquelle cet enregistrement a été réalisé, j'ai été ravi de constater que ma mémoire ne m'avait pas joué de tours : les interprétations, dont beaucoup ont été répétées en studio, étaient ici d'autant plus spontanées.
C'est peut-être dû au fait que la présence de Walter, pour Ferrier lui-même, dans le petit discours au début de cet enregistrement, rend un hommage sincère à son aide et conseiller au fil des ans. Walter, pour sa part, a souvent déclaré qu'il trouvait en Ferrier une réponse naturelle et rayonnante aux lieder, associée à ce qu'il appelait "son art sublime et sa nature aimante".

And here then ..... one of the most delirant and beautiful moment of music ever , by Johannes , composed in a tsunami of love frustration on his absolute GODDESS , Clara Schumann , this cannot be better .... a painful and vibrant lava of tortured and transcendental desire ..... love everywhere , on every wall , like blood , a testimony of eternal fidelity , eruptive , but kind and overheated at the same time ...... this is so full of desire .......... this is wild , and so fragile .... I would be a women , I would accept everything at the second ..... !!!!
I can add little to some of the comments already made. I will say that this is a seminal recording by great musicians and must be listened to. Again thank you for sharing.

45:45 Walter solo at the piano . This is like the Busch's playing the late Beethoven's Quartets or Sofronitzky by Scriabin .... this CANNOT be surpassed .....
And do you want to know why this is so beautiful ?
Because the way Walter is playing his piano expells and bans all convenient and comfortable manners .... no pianism , no phrasing at all , no technical sparkling , no hidden secrets .... only the TRUTH .
Just playing it . But in full beauty , as your whole life would depend on every note inclination ......
This is more than "piano playing" , much , much more ......

Total agreement. Something very special about Ferrier's singing. Walter knew how to play Lieder too; do you like the Fischer Deskau recordings?
While bowing to his immense talent we have trouble with Fischer Deskau in the lieder of Schubert. We prefer Hotter, Anders or Wunderlich.
Nobody beats Deskau. I lke lieder best sung by male voices
