Basement kitchens are where Italian families cook everyday meals but they also serve as auxiliary kitchen for large gatherings. The other things that basement kitchens are used for is for large messy jobs like canning tomatoes.
As we know, it wasn't until italian grandmothers existing that basements just spontaneous popped into reality. Yup. Only italian grandmothers, no way other cultures did this AT ALL.

I like that Sam goes “if you just tuned in…” at 4:28 as if people just have TH-cam on the tv or something and jump in to the middle of episodes. Clearly that harkens back to his tv experience. 😂
while I agree with what you’re putting down, I left the video to do work stuff right before he said this and I restarted watching right there, so it kinda fit because I had to remember what they were talking about before I stopped 😂
I normally do not comment on videos, but I had to for this video. I am going to make this with 2 of my grandbabies, 7 and 4 year olds, that I have for the summer. They love helping me make food, and I always let them make their own pizzas as it is their favorite food to eat, along with pasta and red sauce, chicken nuggets, french fries, etc, lol. The one thing they always have to have is ranch with almost everything, so I can't wait to try your recipe with them!
Love your channel! You and your sons make cooking so much fun. As a retired teacher your teaching method is spot on. Keep the students engaged and yet they are learning all the while having fun ❤ Thank You Sam and Your Sons for all the work that goes into these videos.
I hate when that happens (the drooling, I am retired). But I do have to worry about it. BTW, I think every one knows that 1 stick is a quarter pound of butter not half.
Yummy! You were right Sam….as usual! Many grandmothers had a kitchen on the main level for winter and a makeshift kitchen in the basement for summer before the AC systems came about.
I am going to say one thing you need to add some heat maybe with hot sauce and or jalapenos or something a bit more spicy is all I can say and maybe a pinch of dill just saying!!!
Pizza has been around for over a thousand years, and pizza as we know it has been around for several hundred. There were tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of variations before any of us were alive. Food evolves, cook and eat what makes you happy. In short, get over it and if you don’t like it don’t eat it, this is such a lame comment
Basement kitchen was also called the summer kitchen. You could cook down there and not heat up the house. You could also use it for big jobs like cooking and canning the tomato harvest in August.
My mom made mini versions of these in cup cake pans for Halloween last year and they were so good, a big version like this sounds awesome and never thought of pesto, can’t wait to try
Still love the show, I’ve spread the word, how I’m cooking such great meals! My grandkids are going to live this, Keep America Cooking Sam! Thank you too the behind the scenes guys!
My Grandma used the basement kitchen for canning and cooking during the summer to keep from getting the upstairs kitchen too hot. Back before AC. They had more space and wasn't taking up the dining table or laundry to hold food for large gatherings.
Ok Sam this has to be one of THE best super bowl party appetizers of all time. Thanks for sharing. Oh and great job Chancy on guessing the butter correctly 😉
I make a dessert version of this recipe using butter, dry instant pudding mix, & chopped chopped walnuts . Essentially made the same way and equally as delicious!
This was my Son's and his friends most requested item way back when. I found the recipe in a local paper, but with marinara not ranch. I'm gonna try that ranch dip soon, Thanks Guys!
Sam! It was awesome to meet you at Samburgers this past weekend. Thank you for taking a minute in your busy schedule to chat. You guys are the reason I don’t eat TV dinners!
That recipe is a BBQ time keeper. Serving this with some Prime Ribeye Steaks, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Broccoli Rabe. I love garlic! Thanks Sam! Congrats to the Knife Winner!
This was a mind blowing idea. I love monkey bread and can’t believe I’ve never thought of this. Definitely going to be making this today. Heading to the store now.
1:15 One stick of butter equals half a cup because butter was historically made/sold in one pound salted blocks. the 4 sticks in modern packaging are the butter blocks divided into quarters for easier use and refridgeration, it just so happens that a pound of butter equals 2 cups. Inshort, butter is sold by the pound not by the stick.
We just made this recipe. Save yourself a mess and possible fire in the oven, butter leaks out of the springform pan! Use a bundt pan instead.

Every Italian family I know has a basement kitchen 😂
@Mr.E.InThePNW LMAO....funniest comment of the week!!
I love it when everyone is in a good mood. Max and Chance were on it today. The microphone quality even seemed better.
Love the banter on grandma cooking in the basement! Thank you for the great recipes and entertaining videos!
Never heard of monkey bread pizza before, but that looks really good!
I have been watching yall for years!
You are a great cook and entertaining!
Keep it going 😊
That ranch looks amazing
Whenever a house has a basement kitchen, there is definitely an Italian Nona making Sunday gravy!!!
It's sauce
@@ODRM2022 My family is from Sicily, and as I got older I found that the Sicilians called it sauce and the mainland Italians called it gravy.
It's gravy if there's meat in it otherwise it's sause... my Moter is Sicilian and my Father is Calabrese
I love little pieces, what an awesome idea, thanks!!

That looks AMAZING!! Total toss up between making ranch or making a marinara sauce for the center dish. I'm not sure wither one would be wrong.
This suddenly got Goodfellas cooking in prison vibes. Just need Sam to slice the garlic with a razorblade like Paulie.
The laughter, the food… you guys are so fun to watch! And I’m gonna try this one!
Grandma basement kitchens kept the house cool during the summer. I'll definitely make this in the fall when the weather cools down
I LIVE by a good ranch... watching you put kewpie mayo in your ranch mixture just blew my mind & tastebuds away. YES!!
Pizza is becoming more and more popular, so it loses the unique identity of each country 😑😑😑

Thank you, sam.

And your ranch is to vouch for
I've been making it since the chicken bacon ranch on sourdough
