We had the 16V538 and later 16V4000 on our Patrol Boats. The last true MTU was the 16V538 in my opinion. Once Detroit bought it out they turned it into a gigantic LSX The 538 was a Swiss Watch comparitively.
It does sound rough, it was cold and running in half engine mode. The customer opted to replace all of the injectors at a later date while the engines were having some other repairs performed.
Nice engines. I've installed some of these and the 12V and 16V engines too.

Need to have an injector looked at on the port side engine.

One engine has an awfully lumpy idle and one injector knocks.
