These are very skilled workers at Torq Marine Diesel !! Amazing to watch the whole process and the extreme care taken in the rebuild. This is the way you want it done and you should not have any problems. Great job guys !!!
I worked with a crew that installed two, 16V396 TB?? 94 I think back in the day on a 160 foot boat. Really nice. Preservation problem prior to shipping from Germany caused issues... had to tear them down to the block in-situ prior to trials. Took a long time. Kurt was the tech from Germany. He would have had us rebuild the boat around his engines if he didn't like any aspect of the install. "This is crap" was his favorite phrase! Nice guy that was on his way home from China from a long term assignment there - very strict. We would piss him off by speaking in fractions and thousandths rather than millimeters - it was our revenge! Awesome engines.
Have been in the marine industry for forty plus years and very few people have any idea just how complicated and involved an in position rebuild is. How many noticed they had to roll the block 180° great job and vid
As a mechanical engineer here, why do apparently so many need full rebuilds? Have they suffered water damage, fire damage, neglect? These are engines designed to take 10000s of hours of use in their stride, I assume. Just interested
I worked as a diesel mechanic for 18 years, and although my specialization was not marine engines, I did participate in overhauling a few marine engines on boats throughout my career. Let me tell you, it was not a fun experience.
Roughly 3-400k each to get it to a zero hour rebuild. Assuming major items like crank shaft and camshaft do not have to be sent out for machining or replacement. That's when it gets expensive.
@@kokomo9764 I’ve seen one or two that have been totalled, piston crown departing from the piston body when they were using the two piece pistons, exhaust manifold lined with aluminium from melted pistons…. Horrendous damage, that was the 16v396 used as emergency fire pumps on the rigs, they need maintained religiously but they are beasts without a doubt

That's an amazing speed for a boat that size at 2,000 RPM's. Beautiful!!!

what a work of art! And these techs are so talented. Dang, that's a big cam and lifters!
yeah things really change alot when you go from personal miles driven to industrial hours of operation the wrist pins and bearings are huge too

That was very interesting to see as I have the exact same engines in my 2000 Viking 65’ 😊

Great video! What does a rebuild like this cost? labor? parts?
Frame and plate HE on engine, cool, never seen that before.
Very impressive.

damn, this is really good! 👊🔥⁉️
using the daisys 3.0 for sea trial?
How long does it take to finish this job? And how many people?
3 days max, 2 or 3 people. Assuming all parts are on hand.
It’s possible yes to do in 2/3 days, not Likely.
More like 2-3 weeks

Amazing! What’s the total cost per engine? Great content!
Back in the mid nineties one fuel pump, cost 60,000 GB pounds…… they have two of them so they are not cheap by any means

Then you have the customer saying why is the bill so high!!! Takes a lot of work to do a in frame
Se supone que le harán un rodaje de motor de bastantes horas para que no se rompa y no consuma aceite
❤
Some of those guys were in a hurry. Maybe the camera made them rush perhaps.
