The Zhentarim have always been so full of intrigue, but are there other factions in the Realms that you'd like to learn even more about? Thank you so much for your support. Without your patronage, these videos would not be possible: patreon.com/EdGreenwood
Hello sir , I want you to know I’ve enjoyed your novels from the 80’s to mid 2000’s your a great author ✍️ and what you create makes people happy , and I’d like to hear about order of the gauntlet. I’d like a new paladin in training character in a new novel if possible 😂
Thank you for touching on a member of the Zhentarim. I would like to see a video of what they, and more importantly the Church of Bane, are up to in the current year.
I recently started a new game with the party being zhentarims en Chult. I have not yet planned out everything but i was accounting bringing a Manshoon clone as an enemy of the party, that clone allied with giants to supplant and take over the Merchant Princes of Port Nyanzaru. You just brought me an interesting ally/adversary for the party. With Lady Tarktalon, I could foreshadow and hint at a clone's proximity. like "somehow we got the attention of a big shot of the Zhentarim, what should we do?". Anyway, great video, as always.
These videos are great! My only concern is that one day Ed will no longer be able to make them. We will miss out on so much information and spending time learning of what he created. Keep it up and thank you for the videos. So much info, so little time.
Serve whomever you serve, but do not deny your service. No one is truely free, but that isn't a crime. A power laid down isn't a power forgotten. A lovely tale.
What a character, certainly one of the greatest girlbosses of all time. Would love to learn more on the fate of the Fzoul children! Then again the less known, the better the campaign prompt!
What a fascinating life! I’d love to hear more about what became of her children and if they were ever able to reconcile given her seeming turning of a new leaf
1:43 "Muscle locking" is an incredibly powerful ability considering the heart is also a muscle (an idea also mentioned at 10:01) 🫀 5:32 "Alicia had wands surgically implanted within her body, and mindlinked to her so she could unleash them at will" Now that's a (hardcore) way of bypassing the need for holding wands I hadn't heard about 🪄 15:23 "There are many geases in the Realms, but like most free-willed individuals, I hate them all" Huh, I didn't even know "geas" was an actual word (it comes from the Irish "geis", meaning "injunction; taboo, prohibition, spell")! That's also the reason why I'd say enchantment is actually one of the most "evil" schools of magic (necromancy is the poster child of "evil magic", but objectively all it's doing is animating corpses, which is another form of animating objects).
I love these videos so much! One subject video I would love to see in the future is a history and current goal of the goddess Sune Firehair. I would like to know why she is so powerful and has been a key player in certain events. Her origin in the Netherese pantheon. Relationship with Selune, Llirra, and Tymora. Her Defeat of Shar during the Time of Troubles to rescue Sharess/Bast. Her aide to Corellon during the events of Marco Volo. Her part as the only member of the triumvirate of that imprisoned Cyric who did not diminish as did Lathander and Tyr. Her role in the Sundering defeating Shar and Cyric, helping Helm come back, and aiding Luthic and Grumbars forbidden love. What her place is in the pantheon. Was she just a being of righteous passion in the right place at the right time? Or is she far more shrewd and far seeing then the other gods realize to foresee and defeat so many evils.
I remember seeing her mentioned in one of the boxed sets. Its great to get to know her story and its great to see how the Lady of Mysteries secretly guides her wizards
Ed ur a god! Have you ever been apart of these fabled D&D games that apparently the writers and editors of D&D used to play back in the day? Did you play Elminster and Bob Salvatore play Cadderly with Elaine Cunningham playing Elaith Craulnober and Jeff Grubb DMing? Or did you all play new characters? And if so did those characters make it into the realms officially?
Hey Ed, have you ever considered taking the audio from your TH-cam videos and uploading it to podcast platforms? I would love to listen to you while I work!
It might be an alternative route to discovering the worlds you’ve built and capitalizing on it. I can’t imagine it would take too much effort I say this as someone who appreciates your work 🫶 I hope this doesn’t come across as rude or condescending
Okay Ed, I honestly take a lot of what you say on faith. So while I struggle to accept there is in fact a way to render Imrel Dtarvul in speech, I surrender to your take on the name 6:52 . But I'm calling you out on mispronouncing Quest at 14:44 .
@edgreenwoodofficial I have a question for you regarding Baneite worship, I was wondering if he was openly worshiped in temples on the surface of Toril in towns, or if it was more cults in shadows seeking his favor.
i have to say, i did not see this woman's life story ending where it did. these farm widows should start some kind of evil wizard rehabilitation program, their community seems to have golden age wonder woman paradise island levels of redemption abilities
In folklore from the real world, geas is often pronounced with a "sh" sound. Was there any specific reason you went with the "s" pronunciation instead?
Now it's done right as it is in a justification from a God to a mortal. GEAS would be a great DM spell. Know if I were a DM I would use an inventive trick like this Rogue stole a ruby out of a statue. And the stone has a natural geas to the road to get whom to return it. I think it'd be a religion skill check identify. But I'd usually use that kind of check as the higher difficulty.
I had never been able to figure it out. I thought it could have been pronounced like "gees" or "gaze". It's great to finally know! In my campaign a Lich put one of my players under a Geas to go collect dragon's blood for him within 2 weeks or "suffer the consequences".
The RPGA crew spewed forth worse names for the Realms than even RA Salvatore during the Living City (Raven's Bluff) era. That's where you can find real world names that completely destroy verisimilitude.
Always love names where rando letters and vowels are shoved together. Make it more fantasy than calling the hero "Douglas" the destroyer or lol 😂 let's name him Dougsierrilassillon of Zigzagzerzol 😅😂
The Brotherhood of the Zhentarim are a major mercenary faction for player characters to join in official 5e modules. The Zhents are less evil now much like the Harpers are less good and more of a spy network

Who lives in Alicia's abandoned compound in Zhentarim keep?
Or was it destroyed when the Zhentil Keep was attacked by the Shadovar?
your mom 😂

Loved the Zhentarim supplement that you produced not that long ago.

Man, Lady Darktalon would be a great villainess character in a manwha (Korean comic).

At last I know the canonical pronunciation of "Zhentarim".

I'm sold from the intro.

Great story time!
Since she's no longer Lawful Evil then what alignment is she now?
Try neutral evil
@@johnedwards5738 So now she's just evil for the lolz.
@@johnedwards5738 That's your opinion but really, what's her official alignment?

I love these lore-filled videos so much. Me and my group are always looking forward to them.
It's pronounced "geesh," like Sean Connery saying "geese."
Now it's done right as it is in a justification from a God to a mortal.
GEAS would be a great DM spell. Know if I were a DM I would use an inventive trick like this Rogue stole a ruby out of a statue. And the stone has a natural geas to the road to get whom to return it. Can we learn some more about the pereghost plz?
I've been saying 'geas' wrong for a long time. 😝
I had never been able to figure it out. I thought it could have been pronounced like "gees" or "gaze". It's great to finally know! In my campaign a Lich put one of my players under a Geas to go collect dragon's blood for him within 2 weeks or "suffer the consequences".
I understood that it was pronounced “gay-sh”
Gesh is the Gaelic pronunciation...but it's Ed's world so.... *shrug*
Are there any characters in Toril with truly exotic names... Like John Smith, Thomas Anderson, Bob Wilson or Mary Jones?
No.
My players name is Fanta Orange

a comment for the numbers brother
I thought the Zents were destroyed when the dumb keep fell on their heads.

The Zhents are less evil now much like the Harpers are less good and more of a spy network
so i need evil rating a deep spawn feed the hand of vecna
