    Yay!! Your back! Thanks for the great video. I had my third double jaw surgery in April ( first 2 were over 30 years ago) and have been having a hard time opening so I recently had a lavage to try to get the joint moving. Didn't really help so I'll probably need a lil more invasive surgery like the one you described with the camera. PT is helping but can't get the joint from deflecting to the left. Thank you for all you amazing OMFS do!! :)

      Generally speaking, OMFS has a low mortality rate. Also, Job satisfaction is high amongst OMF surgeons. In one survey, approximately 84% reported satisfaction with their career and 77% reported they would choose a career in OMFS again.

    • @Nicholas-ze5vv
      @Nicholas-ze5vv ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DonzellLampkins Which is kind of crazy considering almost 50%-75% of students switch their intended specialty in medical school, and OMF surgeons don't usually have that same ability, particularly when taking the sole dental degree route.

    My mom was diagnosed with tmq disorder years ago. We live in the Seattle area and have been looking into getting surgery because its debilitating her everyday life. We havnt found any surgeon that would take her case. Do you have any recommendations on how to go about finding doctors in other states? They are trying to sell her into getting these mouth guards that are in the thousands of dollars. Anyone who knows that when you are dealing with a debilitating disease you would do anything. But, im not convinced a mouth guard will do anything that will help. We have already tried other ones. Any info would be appreciated. 🙏

      It goes against HIPPA guidelines + patients must consent prior to any video being posted. And her institution would need to approve, too. It’s a blessing that her hospital approved her vlogging all that she has already. Many hospitals would not approve.

    Thank you for sharing. I had to give up my promising singing career because of TMJ problems and after patiently waiting through several years of splints that didn’t work, I am finally looking at getting my damaged discs replaced with fat grafts. Dr. Robah, I am having a hard time finding any videos or animations of how exactly this fat graft surgery works. I would really appreciate if you made one. Thank you.

    I need some advice. I'm a 20 y/o who chose a different career path before realizing this is what I wanted to do. I haven't felt passion for a career quite this strong before. I wouldn't consider myself especially smart in most ways, but I've proven to myself that I can work hard. I have specifically wanted to get an M.D./D.D.S. dual for a while now, but haven't even taken the SAT yet. Realistically, it feels too late to decide to become an OMFS, and I don't even know where to start; I don't want to give up on it though. But, 3 years out of high school, I don't even know how to take my first step.

    • @bruhhmomentumm
      @bruhhmomentumm ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unless you're ~50+, it's never too late. There's plenty of people starting dental school at age 30. I even know a resident at a 6 year OMFS program (the MD/DDS) who started at 31. He'll be 37 by the time he's done.

      Dentist do surgery for example wisdom teeth, implants, gum resections etc. Their degree is literally DDS doctor of dental surgery or DMD. However, she is a dual degree trained oral surgeon so she is kind of a mix of a physician and dentist even though some oral surgeons only have a dental degree

    I received a 6.5 hour long left side TMJ Replacement in 2017. I had severe bleeding during surgery which was finally stopped by applying pressure. However, while attempting to stop the uncontrollable bleeding the Vegus Nerve was pressed putting me into cardiac arrest x 2. The attending Physician was a lady, the head of the OMFS School at the State’s # 1 teaching medical school, who told me there were 6 Anesthesiologists assembled as my surgery progressed. Note: After that surgery I was diagnosed with a bleeding diathesis, which I was born with, and which is now treated by giving me “Factor” in my IV before, during and, if necessary afterwards. 🫤
