      Is this the criteria? To get a fellowship.
      And is this fellowship after completing undergrad? Or after OMFS MD program?

    Can someone explain to me whats the difference between an oral surgeon and oral maxillofacial surgeon?

    • @bzbzib
      @bzbzib 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't speak for the US, as the system there is a bit different. In most countries in EU, oral surgery is a specialization of dental medicine and involves pathology and it's treatment in the oral cavity. Maxillofacial is either a medical speciality or requires both degrees, again depending on country. Omfs treat pretty much everything in the face and neck- trauma, oncology, reconstruction, etc.

  • @AleD98380
    @AleD98380 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can a dentist (graduated in dental school) became a maxillofacial surgeon in USA? Not only an oral surgeon... in my country you need medial degree to became maxillofacial surgeon, dentists can only became oral surgeon...

    • @yatez97
      @yatez97 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes in fact only dentists become maxillofacial surgeons in the US. Complete the dental degree first, then apply and get into an OMFS residency. Like Dr. Hernandez mentioned, theres two pathways: a 4 year residency that does NOT include med school, and a 6 year residency that does.

    I have been reading that OMFS working in private practices make much more than those who work in hospitals. Like 87k a year in a hospital compared to 200k in private practice, which sounds insane to me compared to the many years it takes. Does anybody know why is this? Is it because they are in low demand in hospitals?

She’s a surgeon and I think as she is doing MD she will be going rounds in medicine and another also to see tmj clicking breath sounds blood pressure for a lot of reasons but usually surgeons don’t use steth since others around them like nursing staff do most of the other medical issues also the patients initially get stabilised only then surgeons will be called for major surgeries
