As someone who's owned a GS300 for over 3 years now can I tell you that I still love it & daily drive it with over 200k miles (327k+ km) on the clock & it runs amazingly well. Needs some work done but it's an old high mileage car. Wouldn't trade it away for anything. Super reliable & super comfortable cruiser. The 2JZ-GE VVT-i engine is buttery smooth & has never failed me once. Truly a great car that's highly slept on. Cheapest way into owning a 2JZ
They’ve taken the resonators, the cats are in the manifold on the 2JZ-GE 😂 They’ve literally just upgraded the exhaust for you. Some do have a secondary cat but it’s not needed to pass an MOT because of the front ones.

Not a 2JZ (there were 1JZs in Japan) but as far as a cool JDM car AND a Supra goes, you cannot beat the legendary 1986.5-1992 MK3 Supra. Not sure how many are in the UK for you guys, but it's become my favorite car. The looks are absolutely stunning inside and out, with some mods it handles AMAZING, RWD, the best seats ever made, custom parts scene, even though they have spiked in value they are still quite affordable, and most of all: It's a Supra. Never get tired of driving mine and I'll keep it as long as possible, that inline 6 is just amazing.

A lot of people don't know or understand there are 3 different 2JZ. 2JZ-GTE, thats the Twin-Turbo that will handle 800hp without opening the ebgine. And then x2 2JZ-GE. With VVT, and without. Without VVT it'll handle 600whp. Lexus IS300/GS300 got with VVT. Those will handle 350whp, max 400whp but on borrowed time. THE BLOCK will handle more, but the rotating assembly won't.
Yes this is the block that has the weaker connecting rods, but there are 4 2jzgte vvti 2jzgte non vvti 2jz ge vvi 2jz ge non vvti There are more versions somewhere but these are the main four
I talked my friend into buying a similarly tired GS300 last year right before gas tripled in price. (And I know it's still way cheaper here than over there but we weren't used to it... lol) He regrets the decision but I just hype up the 2JZ once a week for him and then he feels less sad about it. lolol. Thank you for adding to the 2JZ and specifically GS300 hype. Maybe this'll get him a month of relief.
Love me some LPG. These conversions were super common in Australia, and just about all taxis ran them until hybrids became common. My car was converted in 2007 and it still runs like brand new on LPG and petrol alike. You just need to run premium fuel to clean the injectors, as LPG doesn't have any cleaning agents, being just a gas

gs300 comes with a vvti ge block, the only version with weaker rods, most those engines can safely and reliably make with a turbo is about 350hp with the right tune
The secret to buying a 2JZ: just buy a naturally aspirated one. You may not have boost but mechanically tuning a 2JZ-GE or any other Toyota straight six becomes one of the most impressive powerplants you can have. Fantastic midrange, revvy as hell, and able to take hours upon hours of track use without any problems
You are spot on about that. It's why the SC300 is basically slept on even though it's more or less a lexus MKIV Supra. My Supra only has a 7M-GE in it, but I would feel like a tool if I swapped it out with a 2J-GE unless I absolutely had to. It's not a fast car, but I love the way the stock straight six in it sounds and the torque.
@@Juniper458 It's a pretty deep rabbit hole. Very few do it in the MK3 Supra community (or at least did) because the 7M-GTE (turbos) were so cheap just to swap out with. I have zero issue enjoying the car as-is though.

You need to get the cat on and do a long journey in it fill it up full tank of fuel and full tank of lpg and see how many miles you can do on both without stopping at the pump, before that best is fix the exasust, and service it cheak everything.

You would be amazed how much better the exhaust sounds with just the factory headers and resonators. I removed the rear mufflers on my GS over a year ago and custom made some rear pipes. These NA 2JZ’s can sound amazing with a little bit of work. Also from the exhaust sound of that car it sounds like it is in a limp mode. Typically you can hear the VVT-I kick in pretty aggressively, that did not sound like there was any VVT-I. These engines will turn off the VVT-I and pull a lot of power when there is any major transmission or engine control issues. Probably a VVT-I solenoid failure or a transmission solenoid/sensor failure.
You did great, barely avoiding the total senior citizen-mobile that would have been the other, "sensible" car... No man over 85 would drive arround in something sounding like that - proper job!

A lot of cars in my country use LPG save cost. It's actually not so healthy for your engine as it dries it up. Then comes the risk of the gas cylinder actually blowing up which would be......nasty.

I have an LPG conversion on my 1998 Ls400. I've done about 10k miles since feb when the fuel prices went nuts. The conversion has saved me a few grand in fuel already and paid for itself lol. Unfortunately lots of garages are phasing out LPG now. My closest LPG pump is 25 miles away. RIP...

The non-turbo VVT 2JZ has weaker connecting rods. They tend to leave the building around 450hp. Chuck some beefier rods in it and you're good to go.
I think the automatic gearbox breaks before the rods, right?
