      The Raffall currently shows the countdown as run out, in big red at the top of the page. I saw some comments of people thinking the contest is over.

      @@drewblessing8418 It says 0 because we don’t have a countdown. If you scroll down on the Raffall Website, it’s states that the winner will be announced when all tickets are sold. Therefor it’s impossible to have a countdown. Hope that explains it.

    Tristan given it looks like you have an AGM service battery if you replace it with a Lithium that would give you more capacity since you can drain it down more without doubling up. However you would have to check for your alternators and charger for Lithium compatibility.

    Bow thruster pulls high current from batteries in short bursts...not unlike starting the engines. You would be better off installing a dedicated bow thruster battery, a start type battery, close to the bow thruster to keep supply cables short and minimise voltage drop on the cables. House, or service battery, should be capable of relatively low (in comparison to start battery draw when engine is cranking) steady amp draw for long periods of time. Start battery needs to be capable of providing high current for short period...like what bow thruster requires. If you position bow thruster battery too far away and don’t provide big diameter cables, the high current draw will cause voltage drop in cable resulting in reduced voltage at motor. Also, dielectric grease should be applied to electrical connections at bow thruster motor to help ensure good electrical connection is maintained in harsh salt water environment. Since bow thruster will draw large current, it is extra important to ensure you do not get high resistance joint at the bow thruster connections which will result in large voltage drop, heat at the joint and extra stress on motor insulation system resulting from higher current draw due to reduced voltage at motor terminals.

    Great video. I may have missed it, is the new thruster 24v or 48v? Do yall have a setup on tender and mothership to provide shore power from AWOL to the chase boat when at anchor?

    • @SuperYachtCaptain
      @SuperYachtCaptain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      12v and yes we can connect t he shore power to AWOL

    • @glennedwards1449
      @glennedwards1449 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SuperYachtCaptain There was a recent interview by Sandy Munroe who was interviewing none other than Elon Musk and he mentioned that future Teslas may dump 12v entirely obviously they are only used for services like your yacht. But it was interesting how we never think about it and 12v is really an legacy and no real use for it apparently even Ethernet cables the stuff you do not think about and blithely clip in and out on its little plastic connecters uses 48 Volts!

    Loving the videos. I have a couple of questions about the chase boat please :)
    Why does a smaller boat like the chase boat need a bow thruster?
    Why does AWOL have a chase boat like the Axopar as compared to the much smaller tenders we see on shows like Below Deck?
    Thanks.

      37’ is not small...by definition it is yacht size. Since engines are close together steering a long boat with the engines is more difficult and takes a lot more throttle. Having a bow thruster helps a lot.

    Short question. What camera are you using?

  • @louisalexander8813
    @louisalexander8813 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was wondering why do you need such big batteries for the outboards? Surely they only need one between them as they are only really used to start the engines? That way you could use two of the batteries for services and one for the engines and then have a battery switch that allows the services to draw from the engine battery and the engines from the services battery should that be needed (ie one of the batteries die for some reason). Im sure theres a reason for the layout so if someone could explain it for me that would be great. thanks

    just one question ? who was responsible for the total failure of the original bow thruster ? boat manufacturer-axopar? crew of the chase boat ?thruster manufacturer-sleipner? i realise that you have connections with all of the possible culprits and have no wish to cast blame but by publishing this you have made a problem that could have been not only expensive but fatal to anyone onboard a form of informative entertainment and as such you may find that more than one of your viewers may ask the question. sorry to be negative but the dramatic musical bed whilst mundane mechanical work is carried out does not work for me it feels out of context !
