This worked! I had a jumping idle since last winter. This year it just got too annoying because it wouldn’t go away until I started driving for a while. Between a guy at a car meeting letting me know what was wrong and your instructions, I got it done in under an hour just taking my time and struggling a bit with that top hose. Thanks!
Thanks for this video very educational and straight to the point my 5th gen started idling at 1k then would bounce to 2k it's called a surge and I was doing my research and stumbled upon your video gonna take it off clean it up and I'll update this comment when the car is fixed !!

Let me know if this helps and if not(I hope it does) then you can watch my future video on how to replace your IACV.

Happy to help you solve your idle problem, save you money and save you time. If I ever drive my prelude to Texas I would definitely like to meet other Prelude owners and check out the car scene down there. Thanks for the invite. Keep working out you made a lot of progress. Thanks for the video. Unfortunately my 2.2L 1997 Prelude's IACV doesn't look anything like the IACV in this video. In fact I can't even track down a replacement IACV for my Prelude. I just had the engine rebuilt and it runs great except the idle which is rough and jumpy. Could be TPS or O2 sensors, but more likely the IACV. Getting a little freaked out by the fact that I can't find a replacement or locate a mechanic to clean my particular IACV.
They don't make replacement IACV for the 97,98,99,2000,2001 prelude's anymore. I got lucky I made this video when they were still available because I had another issue with the car and it's idle and I believed it was IACV and had to buy used one's because there were no new replacements. Later I found out it was not the IACV but even used they are getting very expensive. I wish you luck trying to fix the IACV for your car so you can enjoy your new engine build. If I can find anything that can help I'll comment it here.
Dude, thank you so incredibly much! I was at the gas station and it was idling funny, so I'm definitely going to do this. Also, would old spark plugs cause idling problems as well?
Just blow it out with an air hose if not too dirty. Don't have to use super caustic chemicals for every little thing. Not to mention those cleaners love to cause flash rusting and or make plastic connections brittle AF
What year is this prelude? I'm getting a 1990 prelude 4ws in mint shape 1 owner always garaged and never driven in winter. Only issue is this iacv issue with the idling up and down. Curious if that's the same valve in mine is all in case I needed to buy a new one or new seals. My 94 accord coupe does the same thing as well but I've just dealt with it as its intermittent. Great video! 👍
Thanks. This is a 2000 honda prelude. Congrats on buying a nice example of the honda prelude. I don't think the IAVC will be interchangeable because the 1990 honda prelude has a 2.0 L engine while the 2000 honda prelude has a 2.2 L engine, these engines are different. Also not sure if the mounting bolts will line up.
Hey bro when I replace the iacv would it be best to bleed it from the radiator or the little screw? And how long do I need it bleed it for? I'm afraid the bubbles would be so small I might miss it and not know when it's good to go 😅. Thanks for your help bro! 😊
I usually bleed the entire system. From what I remember the manual says to bleed the system until you see and hear the radiator fans come on. This should take about 15 minutes. If you have a radiator funnel kit it should help with bleeding in general and you can the bubbles more clearly. This is what I do when I bleed the system for any reason.
It's not necessary. After I cleaned mine I just put it back together and the car ran fine. It's good to also clean the fast idle valve to further clean the system and do more preventative maintenance.
It's happened to me sometimes and other times it has not spilled anything. I would say just to be ready for it but usually it's not much that it spills. If you do this right after having the car running then the chances are greater for a spill.
I had not really driven the car that much when I made the video. It was like that when I bought the car. Nice keeping the prelude that clean after so many miles.
Is this what you need? Let me know what you think and thanks again for reminding to check and clean this part. th-cam.com/video/FhrLBD_xUJA/w-d-xo.html
@@automotiveobsession7265 Dude, thank you so incredibly much! Thank you for responding so fast! I don't think I've ever had someone reply so quick. Thank you again, man! ✝️
No. The coolant should run through the IACV lines to help the valve work properly by raising the idle when the engine is cold and lowering it when the engine is warm. This is done by IACV when it measures the temperature of the coolant. The coolant should not just spew out of the tube.
You could be correct I'm not sure because I did not leak any coolant and did not have any air in the system after cleaning the IACV. I didn't bleed any air out of the system. I still appreciate the comment.
@@automotiveobsession7265 for me it was quite the oposite, it was only bouncing when warm, but I deleted the IACV and the FITV and now it doesn't bounce anymore, I get to adjust the idle rpm with the throttle body screw only

@@sawsinit544 It turned out that i had a vaccum leak from my manifold gasket. can you use throttle body cleaner instead of carb cleaner or is there a difference
Throttle body cleaner also helps remove carbon build up so yes you can use throttle body cleaner if that's what you have.
