Resetting MyKey with 1 key, must be remote start and push button ignition

- This is a quick walk-through on how to deactivate the my key when you only have one key. Your vehicle must have remote start, push button ignition on the dash and you'll need a code reader to reset a check engine light. This process was done on a 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium. It may work with other Ford vehicles, but I have not tried.

On a 2016 mustang it needs one little modification whenever it asked to restart the engine my engine was running but I had to tap my button super fast because if I let the engine die completely without hitting it before it died it would not trip the my key settings but I did it super fast the engine didn't get a chance to fully die before I tapped it and turned it right back on that trip to my key settings and I reset it works perfectly thank you a billion times so much

Just worked for me!!!!thank you so much brooo 2015 mustang. I just started car normally with brake, gave key to someone to walk away with, waited till they got decent distance, then cleared codes like twice, turned off car(it says restart now or get key) restart the car, boom menu was there. Cleared mykey. Been trying to find solution for like 8 months

2.Give key to someone and have them walk far away.
3. Clear codes like 3 times in a row.
4. Turn off car. It will say restart now or get key.
5.restart right after turning off in step 4
6. Menu should be there.

This worked on a 2018 Ecoboost, had to reset codes 2 times for the message “Restart Now or Key Needed” to pop up. Thank you has been bothering me for months.

Mykey is definitely a hassle. A set mines up by mistake. How can you set it up with 1 key but you need 2 keys to reset it 🤦🏾♂️

@@chynyacarroll4240 I had to buy a key fob online for like $70. Then I took it to the dealership to let them set it up for $90.
We’ve tried this 5 times on my 2014 Ford Explorer and it will not work. I have been able to simply bypass the mykey volume limit, by cranking my car then taking my key fob back inside coming back out and cutting my car off then back on, but I don’t want to have to do this every single time I drive somewhere. We’ve cleared the codes and gone by this video step by step. Is there anything else I can try?
@@ryannicole4396 a locksmith can probably hack into the system but it’s not 100% reliable best thing to do is buy a cheap key fob online and get someone to set it up

Can confirm this works on 15-17 Mustang GT (manual) as well, however the metal key isn’t needed.

@@markniblett4483 I don't know the steps to clear the MyKey on a 2017 Lincoln. All I can suggest is trying this procedure that works for the 2014 Fusion. Sorry I can't be more helpful

Tried dozens of times and gave up. Nothing worked. Tried 2 different code readers to clear the codes but they never would reset my cluster like yours did. Even tried clearing the codes multiples times on some attempts. Nothing would reset the dash. I drive a 2013 Lincoln mkz (basically a ford fusion) if anyone has any more advice
I tried it over and over on my 2011 Edge and couldn't bring up the menu to turn MyKey off. I have bought extra remotes from Ebay and Amazon thinking I will have to use Forscan to clean all keys them program new. But you need two remotes and if there not right your screwed. A idea how I can tell if the ones I purchased are the right ones or not??
Sorry this did not work for your Edge. As far as the remotes are concerned, they should have a FFC ID number. If they are the same as the remote you have, then they will work. Hope that helps.
Not that this will get a response, on a 3 year old video, but does anyone know if autozone would have that kind of tool?
AutoZone should have a code reader that will reset the codes. It does not have to be the same exact tool that I used. 👍🏻

I don't know how to get it to work in your situation. I have had luck with a 2010 Taurus, by wrapping the key in aluminum foil and turn the ignition on, the key was not recognized as a "My Key" and it let me reset all MY KEYS. Good luck.
Don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or what I cleared my check engine dtc codes and it beeps and everything still not working
I don't know what vehicle you have, but I know this works on a 2014 Fusion with push button and remote start. 🤷

@@stevocumberlandd5960 it should work on the 2013. Some people have said they had to reset the codes twice in a row, but I don't know if that will work for you or not. Wish I could be more help.

I'm not familiar with the process for the explorer. Do you have a fob and push button start? Or do you have a keyed ignition?

This will not work without resetting the codes. So to answer your question, no, you can't do this without a tool .
I cant do it without the scanner? I have only one key and no scanner that can erase the check engine light and i have the limited volume
I believe you need the scanner or any reset tool, so you can reset the dash. You do not have to use the exact scanner that I used.

That would need to be done at your local dealership.

Hi, would this disable all the restrictions (80mph, radio volume, seatbelt, etc.) or just the pop-up notifications?
All this does is reset the My Key, if you only have one key.
I cant even remote start my car from the inside. 😣
Check that the battery is good, and if that does not work, You may have to go to a dealer and have them reprogram the key.

I have a 2016 Mustang That has my key active and I went through the steps to try to get it off eyeball a blue drive off of Amazon erase the codes but it still pops up

You need a tool that will reset the engine codes. It does not have to be the SCT4 tool like I used.

I did not use a program. I used a SCT 4 programmer, but only used it as a code reader so I could reset codes. By resetting the codes / check engine light, it resets the cluster.
I’m having this same issue! I’m just not sure where to get the scanner to clear the codes? What is this and where do you get it?
The machine I used is a SCT X4 , it is a performance programmer. They sell them on the SCT website. You can also go to your local parts store and pick up a cheaper code reader. All you have to do with it is reset the codes.

The OBD2 scanner should work as long as it can clear the codes.
the my key setting do not show up after I take the key out of the can and restart it, do you know what I might be doing wrong?
I'm not sure, All I can suggest is watch the video step by step and duplicate what I did. Hope that helps.
I’m having the same issue, I bought the device just so that it can clear the code but my key doesn’t show up... I’ve been following the steps by steps for about 6 attempts already

It should work. A person by the name of Drew did it to his 2015 mustang. Read his comment and try it. I hope it works for you.

Read through the comments, there is a guy named Carlos who had a 2016 mustang, it didn't work for him. He had to get a Bluetooth scanner, and download the Ford app for him to be able to reset his mykey.
Does it work without a srt scanner because I tried this with a regular scanner and it didn’t work can you please help ?
It should work, all the scanner does is reset the check engine light / clear codes. Even if there are no codes showing, just use the scanner to reset them, that will reset the cluster.
@@hellraizer50tried 2 different scanners and they never reset the cluster. They cleared an O2 sensor code but no dash reset or anything like you got
@@tannible_lector what scanners are you using? I have the SCT like in the video, and a Snap on, they both make the cluster blink when resetting codes. 🤷

You should be able to clear codes even though there are no active codes. The scan tool you have should work, it does not have to be a SCT.
I have 2014 lincoln mkz followed all steps. My key still active. I've been trying everything. I can't afford to give a dealer 400 bucks...
Sorry it isn't working for the Lincoln. Maybe look into Forscan and see if that is able to help?
So when I go to clear the code, my scanner tells me there are no codes to clear. And I proceed with the step but it doesn’t reset the MyKey
When you clear the codes it will reset the cluster, you can see mine flicker when I clear the codes. After the dash is reset, you should be able to scroll through the settings and erase the mykey setting from the menu.

I have a obd 2 that can send clear command. And my dash never clicks or resets. The temperature goes to -39 but it doesn’t work. I have 2014 fusion titanium
The vehicle that I did this on is a 2014 Fusion Titanium also. It should work, it has always worked for me when following the steps.
@@hellraizer50have the Lincoln version of the same car. Never worked for me either. Used 2 different code readers to try clearing the codes and my dash would never click or reset either

Can the procedure you did of taking the key away from the car and everything else be done with the help of the forscan program instead of your video scanner?

The step where the key gets taken away is necessary so the car does not sense it. I'm not familiar with ForScan, I don't know if you can use that to reset the cases or not.. If you are using ForScan, you may be able to go in and disable the MY KEY settings without all the other steps

Sorry you are having no luck. If you have remote start, and push button start, it should work. Try it more than once, follow all the steps. It may not work the first time. I hope this helps.

Hello I’m hoping you’re able to help, but every time I click clear codes on my scanner it’s giving me an error that there’s no codes to clear. Am I just out of luck at this point?
I don't know what scanner you're using. The scanner I used will reset the codes even if there is none showing. I would try to use a different scanner or if worse comes to worse, unplug a spark plug wire so you get a check engine light then put the plug wire back on and then do all the steps and clear the codes. I hope this helps.

@@charliegoetia9765 the slot is in the center console. It's the same place you put the key fob when programming it to the car. I only use the slot in the video to make my fob a "my key" for the steps to remove the my key setting with only one fob.

@@basselmouchantat7273 you need a code scanner. I watched another video in which a guy used code scanner called elm obd2 and it worked for me. You can buy it from Amazon its only $30-40.
Yes, a code scanner is necessary. In the video I used my SCT4 programmer. It works as a scanner also.

I don't know what vehicle you have, but seems like the key has to further away from the vehicle. Hope this helps.

I can't get my remote start to even work
Check the batteries in the FOB. Other than that you'll have to get that working before attempting this.
They seem to be good. I can roll my windows up and down outside the car. The trunk button works also. When I try the remote start my horn blows and my fob flashes red 2 times

Not working for my 16 mustang, I only have 1 key and accidently set that my key bull crap 😁
I don't know if it will work, but, you can try wrapping the key with aluminum foil, then put the key in the ignition and turn it on. It may not recognize the mykey but let you access the option to remove all mykeys. That worked on a 2010 Taurus, it may work for you, I don't know.
@@hellraizer50 mine is push start, as soon as I do all your steps and my kid walks away.. I restart car with no key and I still get the my key on while car is started with no key and key is 20 feet away.
The Mustang may be different than the Fusion I was in. :(

I would guess that you don't have a mykey programmed. I don't know what your vehicle is? It may not be mykey capable? 🤷
