    Quick tip - I did this repair on my 2011 9-3 - there is a drain pipe directly above the UJ (joint/pivot) coming from the windscreen/wiper scuttle, over time water runs down this pipe and will drip on the UJ directly below, and wash off the grease and seize it, wearing it again.
    My solution was to create a bypass pipe, from the drain pipe to somewhere else 👍 seems to work well.

      Interesting, I did notice this pipe doing the job, and sounds like a great solution that will provide some longevity.

      Would it fit petrol engine 2.0 or there is a difference between cars diesel and petrol

      @@khaledal-badri3143 petrol and diesel have different Universal Joints but presume they are still in the same place below the scuttle hole drain hole, you would have to take a look

    I had the same problems, I thought it was the steering rack... Unfortunately I bought/replace brand new steering rack , until I got to realised it was the same problem you had on this video

      Thats a shame - I’ve seen the same happen to others even when taking to a garage so you’re not alone. I found out about it through advice from the saab owners club on Facebook. Its well worth being active in those groups !

    I was charged 375 pounds to have it replaced (in Denmark). It’s expensive to have 10 thumbs.

    Any idea if there's a similar joint in OG9-3, or is it a steering rack issue in the older model?

    Mine has this exact issue, 2x SAAB centres have said they cant find a fault.

      @ItsDanLatham  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its common knowledge by now, its the first thing people will suggest on the forums and owners clubs when you say steering issue. Crazy that specialists don’t know about it!

      @@ItsDanLatham agreed. I've got the V6 so limited access in the engine bay. Gonna get a local garage to fit a new one.

    Went to look at a 2010 93 today and test drove it - Noticed this with the steering, also the Service now light was on + The speedometer had a hole through it, for whatever reason?? Didn't take it - Dealer seemed dodgy.

    • @ItsDanLatham
      @ItsDanLatham  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The steering thing is a common issue and as you can see a relatively easy fix. On a cheaper car they probably wont bother servicing it, but that combined with the speedo thing would have put me off too. Join the facebook group saab 9-3 sales, you’ll find all the best cars on there as they’re usually enthusiast owned.

    Really good video, thanks.
    My Saab steering has gone very heavy all of a sudden, however it is tight turning the wheel and then goes loose, and then goes back tight. Do you think this could be the issue or is this looking more like power steering pump?

    • @ItsDanLatham
      @ItsDanLatham  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely the pump or fluid etc. The issue I had was very much mechanical and you couldnt feel any difference in the steering at all apart from the dead zone in the middle where it was loose.

      The sellers name was clearly visible in the video, it's 1apm, just go onto Ebay and click on 'advanced search', then 'search by seller' and type in 1apm. I now have a universal joint in watched items from them.

    • @ItsDanLatham

      A lot of the parts are the same. They’re all old enough now that theres not really a premium on saabs like there was from new.
