Yes plastic is made from oil, but it is possible to make plastic out of vegetables (such as soybeans). Plastic was around long before we started using oil to create it. Furthermore, using oil derived plastic from oil is a better use than burning it since it shoes can be worn over and over and possible recycled. Regarding a vegan diet, read the book 'The China Study' by Dr. Campbell. I am sure that most public libraries have it.
Natalie Portman always seemed like the type of person that would really stick to her ideals. I just never thought that with her Harvard University education she'd go & collaborate on a line of vegan shoes. Natalie Portman is beautiful too. Gotta love that smile. It melts brains.
Natalie Portman is a beautiful vegan goddess. She shines of her light of compassion and expanded awareness in a world full of people with limited awareness and restricted compassion. I can't commend Natalie enough for educating the public and promoting cruelty free alternatives!
I love her! It's rare to see a selfless actor nowadays. I love how she started a shoe line not for the sake of putting her name on a product, but to help those who also wear leatherless shoes! My only beef though, is that she advertised these as "affordable", and last time I checked, $200+ is not affordable for shoes! Maybe for some women it's worth it, but for me it's not. Either way, bravo Miss P!
Whole-heartadly agree. Animal products are biodegradable, plastic isn't. Once the shit's made, it won't go away. That being said, the production of animal produce should be highly regulated within strict ethical boundaries, which it sadly often isn't.
she is a beautifull actor, which coincides with her having a beautifull appearance, seeing that she demonstrated no acting in this video, i commented on her looks. Dont lecture me on her talents because i fully aware of her works, Leon consequently being my favorite film because of Natalie Portman.
Yeah I don't get that either. Cow like to be milked (Not factory milking-where the cows are hooked up to a machine but hand milked by a farmer.) Their teets get sore if you don't.
@leparditas There's a lot of confusion about this issue, and I constantly argue with people. Vegetarians don't eat any meat - no chicken, no fish. Some people say they're vegetarians but then I see them eating shrimp....arrgghghhh! Vegetarians don't eat seafood, period. However, they do eat eggs (there's debate about that too) and dairy. Vegans don't eat any animal by-products - no dairy, no eggs, no honey. Hope that helps! :-)
I really love her and admire her, but i could never be vegan. i tried vegitarian twice but didn't last for more than 3 weeks each time, sure it had some perks but my body was asking for more.
EVariation, a pound of lean meat contains ~600 calories. Fat meat, 2-3 times as much. A pound of green veggies contains what... 50-100? So calorie for calorie, the required resources to produce the foods are the same.
not all vegans go that far. veganism is very broad...notice she says she doesn't wear/eat anything made of/by animals. that's the generally excepted form of veganism. just because some vegans use the all-out crazy method, doesn't mean all of them have to.
Native Americans respectfully used all parts of the animal. The animals lived full lives till their hunted deaths- there was never abuse. Indians were prayerful, respectful, and honorable to the animals. In todays age of gluttonous meat eating and mass manufacturing of animal meat for $- there is no space for comfortable, happy farm animals. Her company is a move toward a compassionate solution. Extreme measures like this company are necessary until a middle ground is found.
"Ah, I'm sorry you can't afford to buy some wheat to feed your family, but I can sell my stock at a higher price to pig breeders." - European agriculture to African market
some people do it as a personal challenge, and its also sbeyond ththis animal cruelty thing, some people just have some mental boundaries within them (not to siggest she's crazy or something) i went vegan...but it only lasted a month...only because everyone was just use to buyn meat products and food was stokn up so i had to do something and buying special foods was a pain but it actually wasn't bad, but the cheese i missed too much.

LOL Reminds me of "Everything in this room is eatible. Even I'm eatible. But that is called cannibalism, my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies."
Not, not even close, that's not the guy at all, I'm talking about the one she dated, he was not a politician, neither a man of power, he was a musician.
If one wants to use fewer animal products out of personal preference, then that's fine. I admire that. But to use plastic products instead of animal products with the intent of being more environmentally friendly is a flawed concept, I'd say. Thoughts?
i hope we can all give up on the one natalie portman and end up with someone even lovelier, whoever that may be. Everybody on the internet, we all spend too much time in our own heads. keep your heads up motherfuckers, and smile in the morning.
Choosing not to use animal by-products of any kind is a very forward-thinking mindset & if you are so short-sighted & ignorant as to try and shun vegans and their ilk for pursuing this lifestyle then I do hope you can open your eyes some day. I don't feel slaughter for food is "cruelty to animals" but I do, to an extent, understand why some would choose this lifestyle. Really, Giggs310, don't speak of things you know nothing about.
10 cows feed more then 20 to 30 people. What is the time frame you are using here, feed them for 1 year or 6 months? The ten cows can be used throughout the whole year if slaughtered when needed. The corn is seasonal, but I guess it could be cooked and shucked and then frozen. It is said that "Vegetarian" is an american indian word for "Poor Hunter". Just kidding.
Hmm.. Well I was replying to puppet003 "I love animal's. They taste good!" followed by MikeLXXXVIII "so do you probably if spiced up right". I guess I did it wrong.
You know they people making those shoes probably eat animals. I guess she doesn't know that some of the components in the machines used to make those shoes are made from animal products. Some machines even use leather seals because petroleum based seals can damage the material during the manufacture process
I don't know why, but it seems like she was at a loss of words. Anybody else getting the feeling, with respect, that she didn't know what she was talking about? I just might have been an off night for her... idk.
Okay... animal friendly. Fine. But how much does processing all this synthetic stuff hurt the environment? I'm sure whoever sold her on the idea didn't tell her THAT.
People can do whatever they want, but I get fucking PISSED when people take the moral high ground for things that are TOTALLY ridiculous. I am all for animal rights, but not using animal products!? Really? The Native Americans used only animal products and they have more respect for animals than Natalie Portman ever will. Animal abuse disgusts me, and so does excess consumption of any product. Since I have something called perspective, I can still use animal products and feel fine about it.
THat would make sense if the act itself was inhumane ie milking the cow which they like. But to totally obstain from all dairy products when there are humane alternatives doesn't make sense. I'm not saying you should eat veal or fois gras which have no humane alternatives. Be a smarter consumer, and the milk industry will change. Nonconsumers can't change industry. Besides, humans need a variety of nutrients from a variety of sources to have a healthy diet. Don't limit yourself needlessly.
shite. i'll eat my beef, drink my milk, & proudly wear my 100% genuine leather jacket & shoes knowing that nothing was wasted of the cow that died for the money i paid. amen.
smart lady, elegant, beautiful, and great actress.

I always love her....Natalie is a very down to earth real genuine person that everyone of us should be!!! Well done girl!!!
I always love her, Natalie is a very down to earth real genuine person that all of us should be!!! Well done girl!!!
This is good Natalie. I would totally buy a gentleman line of shoes version of this.
Natalie Portman always seemed like the type of person that would really stick to her ideals. I just never thought that with her Harvard University education she'd go & collaborate on a line of vegan shoes.

Yes, you're definitely right there. Really, despite the completely different texture and aesthetic of fur and fabric. 'wathever'.
I love Natalie Portman. She's a great role model.
i feel you man...you are sooo right!! this is just a freaky fashion! you are not "in" if you are not one of them!
OMG shes so f*cking PRETTY!
Man she's gorgious. Gotta love Natalie Portman.
He is from Texas actually, but raised in Venezuela!
good thing she's doing something good.
Most beautiful people don't care about the environment, only about themselves.
I swear she is a goddess.
Drinking game everytime she says "Classic"!
Whole-heartadly agree. Animal products are biodegradable, plastic isn't. Once the shit's made, it won't go away. That being said, the production of animal produce should be highly regulated within strict ethical boundaries, which it sadly often isn't.
Excellent! I've been looking for vegan shoes! These look great but i'm sure way too pricey for my budget :(
she is a beautifull actor, which coincides with her having a beautifull appearance, seeing that she demonstrated no acting in this video, i commented on her looks. Dont lecture me on her talents because i fully aware of her works, Leon consequently being my favorite film because of Natalie Portman.
lol, no is Devendra Banhart who I was talking about. He is Colombian.
la mas hermosa de todas!

Yeah, you got it, Carmensita song, now I remember.
Now I know, that's why most of his music is in Spanish, I think he is the one that made Natalie a vegan.
You have no idea how hard I laughed after I read your comment.
=)
... she's amazing.
guuaaauuu.... Natalie que hermosa e inteligente

Can you put a translation in French, please?

Plastic soles are not bio degradable. She is a great actress.

Plastic is made out of oil which isn't harmful to the environment at all.
Well she is not vegetarian, but she goes against animal cruelty. She refuses to wear things made of animals. I very fond of her.
What's the name of that Colombian guy she dated for a while?
i think im in love
She's definitely a beauty. Damn.
some people do it as a personal challenge, and its also sbeyond ththis animal cruelty thing, some people just have some mental boundaries within them (not to siggest she's crazy or something) i went vegan...but it only lasted a month...only because everyone was just use to buyn meat products and food was stokn up so i had to do something and buying special foods was a pain but it actually wasn't bad, but the cheese i missed too much.
all proceeds going to charity + high end/expensive shoes = money for charity = good
Natalie, you are the most beautiful woman of the universe
when i meet the vegan woman of my dreams, (i wish it was natalie) i know where to get her shoes from. these are awesome.

simplemente....
Natalie.....
She si great...
devendra banhart?
She argues for a racially pure Jewish state and shares Alen Dershowitz's ideas. That is why the comment is fair.
The shop closed ... :(
the best looking woman ever!
LOL Reminds me of "Everything in this room is eatible. Even I'm eatible. But that is called cannibalism, my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies."

so do you probably if spiced up right

Yeah she is, she only stopped for the sake of her baby, after that she went right back, even had a vegan wedding.
@vcsjwu it closed? why?
i hope we can all give up on the one natalie portman and end up with someone even lovelier, whoever that may be. Everybody on the internet, we all spend too much time in our own heads.
keep your heads up motherfuckers, and smile in the morning.
smooth one ...

Gael Garcia Bernal?
He is Mexican!
It is clearly a print, not a fake fur.
uuuuuuu muy guapa
Don't worry about the thumbs down, I totally get you.

yay!
I wonder if any of her shoes or clothes she owns are leather?? Hmm..
sorry getting a bit defensive there! we both have something in common
I don't know why, but it seems like she was at a loss of words. Anybody else getting the feeling, with respect, that she didn't know what she was talking about? I just might have been an off night for her... idk.
I would like to become vegan. But i love chiken :S...i could try but i don't think i resist it for to long :S
Okay... animal friendly. Fine. But how much does processing all this synthetic stuff hurt the environment? I'm sure whoever sold her on the idea didn't tell her THAT.

@xxdiogenescynicxx I went from a meat-based diet to vegan and it was very easy as well!

I'd buy what ever she tried to sell to me.

nice one, well i can see trends appearing, shame it revolves around defending Natalie Portman! sad really!

No she's not. Childish argument.

OPAH!

She is so conservative...
