  • This is a video slideshow of the assembly of the 1/32 scale Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero by Hasegawa. It is mostly an "out-of-the-box" build with some small modifications. A new technique was used to simulate chipped paint by using a silver pencil.

Thank you for the comment and for watching the video. The model was fun to work on and makes a nice display next to the F6F-5 Hellcat. It really illustrates the difference in size of the two warbirds. Thank you once again for leaving a comment. Best wishes!

Wonderful vid! it was amazing to see the engine and cockpit! I am currently Doing a B-29 Superfortress now, and I had some probs with the misaligned fuselage and this helped quite a bit! (Im getting ready to prime it, and then give it a steel finish.) thank you for doing another vid you helped out quite a bit with the B-25 as well!

Thank you for watching the video and I am glad it was helpful. Good luck on the B-29, that is a nice build in any scale. You may want to give my video on bare metal finishes a look. It has some alternate ideas on how to achieve panel shading for bare metal. Thank you for the comment and best wishes!

Hi. Excellent build and very informative. I have just bought this kit - well the latest version I guess. Do you brush paint much or generally airbrush most parts? Also I’d love to know how you managed to do the worn through to the rivets detail. 🏴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Greetings, and thank you for your comment! I use a combination of airbrush and hand painting. Large surfaces, such as airframes, wings etc. are airbrushed 90% of the time. I will hand paint some camouflaged paint schemes depending on how complicated the masking will be. Smaller items are usually painted by hand. The worn through look was done with a silver pencil and dry brushing with silver paint. When dry brushing with silver, be sure your brush is "DRY". Silver tends to go places you may not want it it go if you have too much paint on the brush. To me, making realistic paint chips and worn panels has always been hit or miss. It is definitely an art in itself. I wish you the best of luck on your build! Thanks again for your comment and for watching the video. Best Wishes!
