    NOTE: I'm getting conflicting information, but it's true that companies can declare bankruptcy and still stay in business once their debts are resolved. Nearly all the info we're getting does seem to indicate that they can't stay in business under their current model though, so I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. It would be wonderful if Nintendo could bail them out or something.

      Although Mario Party’s drastic formula change was seemingly more in response of the constant critique the games had of being “rehashed versions of the last game with same exact formula just with aesthetic add ons”, hence why for instance Mario Party 5 exaggerated the randomness as well as overdoing the extra modes, and 6 and 7 used the Mic accessory as well as having each board with their own rules, it was a case of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. It was an attempt to change the formula for the better, but backfired. Although I didn’t like the car either, as a main mode it sucked, but, they could’ve kept the Bowser vs Mario team from 10 though, that was a legit good way to use the car as it gives everyone a reason to be moving together and they’re meant to cooperate rather than choke each other while all chained together.

      @GamingTV Got any proof backing up any of your speculation?
      No you don't, Nintendo tried something innovative after the Wii U.
      They didn't merge their handheld and console lines because of a lack of money.
      The Nintendo Switch has been such a big success in comparison to the damage they took during the Wii U era.

    Hey Arlo, so two quick things to note:
    When Hudson was acquired by Konami, Nintendo formed ND Cube comprised of former Hudson staff who worked on the Mario Party Games. It may be cheaper for Nintendo to build a new subsidiary from the ground up with Alpha Dream employees instead of paying off their debts
    Two:
    Alphadream has recently worked on a phone game, (I think in collaboration with Sony), and their ventures whether profitable or not are their responsibility.

      Correction about ND Cube: they were actually founded in 2000, long before Hudson went under. Also, Hudson was dissolved just one day before Mario Party 9's intial release, so it couldn't have been a factor in the decision to move development to ND Cube. That said, it’s true that a lot of former Hudson employees mvoed to ND Cube in 2010, which is probably why they were chosen to develop Mario Party games from that point on.

      Arlo said that the 3DS was a dying console when it was still swinging it's hardest in 2017 when Superstar Saga released. The Switch was hitting it's stride but the 3DS wasn't slowing down at all yet. It wasn't until later into 2018 that sales started to die down, and the Switch started to really pick up in sales.
      Both remakes sold poorly. I just highly doubt it had anything to do with them being on 3DS, Nintendo's largest, current install base at the time. There's still twice as many 3DS units out there as there are Switch units in 2019.

    EDIT: AlphaDream's website is down too. I doubt they'll be rescued.
    To all the folks saying "Why didn't they remake BIS on Switch?": they did not have the money to create HD assets. Also, BIS uses touch screen and mic far, far too often for it to work on Switch. It wouldn't be the same game without them. They knew what they were doing; it just did not work out well.
    I'm sad that another great spin-off series is biting the dust. This was very uncalled for. BIS is one of my favorite DS games and of all time (among the rather small collection I've played). I'll miss Yoko's OSTs the most.

    • @DeltathRiylaan
      @DeltathRiylaan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There's no good argument for why it couldn't be on Switch other than Nintendo wanted it on 3DS. There are plenty of games on Switch without HD assets, including similar ports like The Alliance Alive HD. And the argument for it needing the touch screen and mic is just nonsense. This has been slung around for virtually EVERY Wii U game that people claimed wouldn't make it to Switch, like Captain Toad, Mario Maker, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, even Splatoon. And yet they always find a way. It wouldn't have even been a challenge. And they could easily have used the touch screen during portable mode like all the rest.

      @KoenigKraehe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Deltath Riylaan Ninty wanted it on 3DS is the best argument, I agree actually. I keep forgetting that they had more plans for it.
      Saw a few screens of the game you've mentioned; it has a way higher resolution than (most parts of) the 3DS M&L games. Had they released BIS on Switch, with this same artystyle and at full price, I'm convinced many would have complained. I wonder if their plans of HD dev could have worked if they had not spent any time on BIS 3DS.
      Those games either had an easy solution (CTTT), or are widely considered to play worse without touch or a second screen (MM2, S2). Not to mention that MM2 still plays with touch and is the better way regardless. (I do not know enough about TMS to make an argument about it, sorry!) Also not all Wii U games can be ported. Where's that Pikmin 3 port? ;P
      But when it comes to BIS, more than a matter of "can they adapt this?", for me the question is: "Would it feel like the same game?" You can't convince me that the Giant Bowser battles would feel the same on Switch (and no touch) as they do on DS or 3DS. I believe this is something that the devs valued during development.

    • @KoenigKraehe
      @KoenigKraehe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @DeltathRiylaan
      @DeltathRiylaan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@KoenigKraehe The Switch HAS touch controls though. That's a big part of the point. Nintendo often makes games that play better with one control scheme or another and then give the option for either. You can't use touch controls to make in Mario Maker 2 when it's docked but to say you can't use touch is silly. Most people just make levels undocked and use a finger or stylus. If Bowser's Inside Story didn't feel as nice with standard controls to some people, they could simply undock the Switch.

      Frog God they could but you have to realize that Nintendo aren’t the risk takers they used to be and with a series that was going downhill it’s doubtful they will. I can see them reviving it in the future but I’d say it’s dead for now and as much as I love Mario and Luigi I would be ok with a bit of a break from the series come up with some fresh new ideas and focus on a real paper Mario sequel it’s time it’s been time.

    The remakes on the other hand were released WAY too late in the 3DS life and thus they suffered big time sales wise.

      As long as Miyamoto stays *far away* from developing the next M&L game like he did with Mario Odyssey, I think we should be ok. Seriously imagine if Miyamoto took over developing Odyssey & gave it the Sticker Star/Color Splash treatment by deciding to have all NPC be toads, have all the bosses be the koopalings only, have all enemies be enemies from the NSMB series, constantly pander on Mario 3 nostalgia & have Bowser turn giant for the millionth time.

    Man, Superstar Saga was one of my first and still one of my favorite Mario games. Sad to see that the team behind such a spectacular game is going under. A game that truly fits the 'Old but Gold' label.
    Hell, I still remember the battle theme vividly despite not playing for over a decade. I remember that stupid giant Piranha Plant causing me so much trouble and the relief I felt when I finally beat it. Fawfuls constant laughter, the Bean Kingdom boss, my uncomfortable first encounter with Birdy, The sheer excitement I felt when I got the fireball/electricity powers for M/L, etc. etc. (The more I think about it, the more memories come up so lets stop here lol)
    Point is, I loved this game and I felt that it loved me back. I think thats why its so ingrained in me. It gave me so many wonderful and awesome memories and moments that few games could match. I truly hope for the best for the AlphaDream team. And hope they can continue doing what they love, cause I certainly did.
