The crime rate in Canada right now is through the roof! I hope this video brings more awareness on the popular scams going on. Please share your experience or any ones you've heard of so we can all stay vigilant 👇🏽
I'm so sorry this happened to you! 😔🤕I hope the government cracks down on this. Unsuspecting people will fall for these scams easily. I can't believe that the counterfeit money is being advertised on FB too, that's crazy! 🤯 I'm someone who is trying to make a little extra cash by selling items so this video is extremely helpful and timely. For future, I will be saving all contact information of the person I am selling to (especially if it's on FB) but not sure how helpful that would be as people can be using aliases on Facebook - but even so, if the profile looks suspicious i.e. no photo, low activity, relatively new profile, then I won't sell to them. I'd also suggest sticking to apps that force users to verify their identity. Those platforms are less likely to be crawling with scammers.
I’m glad you found this useful. That’s why I made the video honestly. Another suggestion will be to check the profile of the person to see if it’s a relatively new account or older one. If it’s new then you should pay closer attention to them. The cops also mentioned they have a buy and sell point at the police station. This might be worth considering for high value items.
you have literally spoken on cyber-security on this post, am impressed how you spoke on possible mitigation control for each of this (personal identifiable Information, PII theft, phishing, skimmer, Data privacy). Am in the space of cybersecurity so am impressed
counterfeits are very common in Canada. Bring a blacklight, scratch it, or even compare your own in the future. Also, it is not a good idea to be meeting someone that knows where you live. Should meet at a nearby public area. And always make sure theres security camera.
Thank you. There was a security camera there but he was wearing a face cap. And since it’s an apartment with multiple inter connected buildings I figured it was okay
When my family and I came to Canada, we fell for the delivery scam because we were really expecting packages, as soon as we paid thank God it was just $1.50, but we had to block our Canadian ATM immediately. Also, we got a lot of phishing text messages, like 1hr after getting our numbers. Scam is so crazy in Canada, worst than back home.
It’s beyond me! Thanks for sharing and I’m glad you caught it quickly. I used to wonder how they got phone numbers especially if it was new but I later learned it was just permutation of random numbers.
My experience was through the fake brand ambassador programs. One hair brand reached out to me talking about me representing their brand and they will pay me bla bla bla and so on. Long and short, I’ve worked with the brand before so i have their unbeknownst to them. So i called them out on their bullsh*t and they blocked me.
Thank you so much for this Wizz, I’ve been a victim. I got scammed through text message telling me my scoatia bank card is been blocked and i should click a link. That was how i clicked and fill in my name and that was it. Reported to the bank, changed my card and we are still on the case. God help us all
Another one is the work from home and get 200-300dollars. Then they give you a task to click on products to boost sales apparently,,, at the end of it all they say that crypto is how they pay, and you have to deposit some money to buy crypto for your tasks,,, I ran like a mad woman. No one gets my hard earned money like that.
Indeed there is scam there, even in accommodation, this guy after paying, few days he was to pack in only to find out someone has already moved in.....he had to involve the police...dont know how it ended sha....the painful part is that earning this money is not easy and then loose it for someone else😢
Thank you whiz queen, have experienced the cheque scam when i came but fortunately for me i dectected so early. I love all the information you provide here, thryre super useful. How can i get in touch with you?
Another content creator also talked about how on same Facebook market place the guy snatched the iphone and ran off. It is unfortunate that Canada is yet to wake up with respect to handing down harsh sentences to deter such frauds or crime. Ummm, I shudder to think of where Canada is headed. Stay vigilant.
You see we thought about this that was why we asked to meet in the lobby of the building not outside where he could run off. Infact we tried to have him stand where the cctv footage was but he knew what he was doing cos he had a face cap on. This criminals have gotten so comfortable because there’s no punishment for them. The cops and govt are not doing anything about it cos it’s low priority for them. I’m afraid for what the future holds in Canada 😌
Never meet anyone at your home. Meet at a police station or a public place - Tim Hortons etc. Also, try to screenshot the profile before the sale in case anything goes wrong
Sadly eTransfer works as debit payment and there’s little the bank can do. You will have to get the police involved for them to try to take the money back of which by then it’s likely gone
A scamming (Hackers) organization in Ukraine admitted targeting Canadians because there're no laws against hackers in Canada. Our government doesn't invest against hackers, which is extremely scary.
Seriously!!! That’s insane oh no. This makes so much sense now cos I’ve hear scammers from the US move to Canada cos there is lesser jail time if caught. I hope our government does better soon. The crime rate is becoming unbearable 😌
@WhizQueen hey Trudeau mentioned publicly that it wasn't the government responsibility but to the canadians citizens to make sure you don't get scammed. So I don't see the government investing in it for a long time unless the banks print more money
Another of their strategy especially for new comers looking for a job, they will verbally give you a job offer and immediately ask for your SIN number, please DO NOT give anyone your SIN number without an offer letter and all necessary paperwork.
If you have the IMEI number you can literally blacklist it... You can also request the police to track it for you...... I mean they were many things you could have done but then again it is Canada.... Things more slow there......
I have the Imei and I provided it to the police. They did nothing. I called Apple and they said if you logged out of iCloud already they can’t help you with it
@@WhizQueen its actually called a counterfeit detector pen. It contains some iodine & reacts to the starch found in most types of paper. Genuine U.S. currency is printed on paper that does not have starch. Therefore, if the bill is genuine, the ink will turn yellow and if it's fake, the ink will turn black or dark blue. I want to believe the Canadian dollar will react same way or you can query google to see the reactions to various kinds of currency. Its very affordable & sold online. I knew about it from working at the bank.
Sistah, police services have a Buy and sell zone literally right in front of the police station. Their are also camera recording the zone 24/7, and they start recording the individuals even before they enter the parking lot. You're also suppose to check if the money is fake in the zone. No disrespect, it seems like you were being lazy. Next time go to a buying or selling zone ! th-cam.com/video/3twU832bDWs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vLPg0jlfm2pthTIV
Canada was never like this. The crime rate got worsened over the years. I never had to be overly cautious of safety or being scammed like that. We live, we learn

Just learnt a few things
No one is too smart and no place is too safe
Never you do transactions at your house. Set a public place

Even Tim Hortons does not accept $100 bills. Do not accept $100 bills in any cash transactions. As soon as you said $100 bill, I knew it was fake.
This is news to me woah 😮

I’ve learned now, Police station is better. Screenshotting the profile ahead is a good tip, I’ll start doing that now. Thank you!
Be warned of paying deposit to hold items on marketplace too
Hi Queen? How long it will take you to visit your home country after getting a job in Canada
Thanks love
For rent scams, what if you paid through e-transfer? Isn't it traceable?
Sadly eTransfer works as debit payment and there’s little the bank can do. You will have to get the police involved for them to try to take the money back of which by then it’s likely gone

Why didn't you snap these fake currencies and show them online to prevent others from the scam?
