The Classic Series are pretty good but the Vinteras have the edge, card bobbins on the pickups, better curves on the Strats and better sounds overall. I bought a Vintera 50s Tele and it’s great. I have the 72 Custom in CS and that’s great too. The only problem is that the wide range is a fake on both models and I might install one. Pau Ferro is the ultimate dealbreaker for me.
It's very easy to darken up the PF fretboard if the orange tone is putting you off. There is not a thing wrong with PF. It's a cross between ebony and rosewood.
I’ve had a classic Tele Custom black-on-black since the mid 2000’s & it’s been my go to ever since. I’ve found it to be very versatile & extremely playable.
Great playing. Enjoyed The Police cover. I'm a huge fan of both. Got an older '72 Custom with Bigsby. Just ordered the Sonic Blue, as it is now being cleared by Fender at 20% off. Thanks for posting! Kind regards.
Def feels like the Vintera has more bottom -- MAYBE a tad less brightness -- but I'm not sure if that is due to it actually being less bright or if it just sounds more rounded due to the fuller wound in the bottom end... Either way -- I dig the Vintera sound more.
Awesome Pauly🎸《☆》Nice comparo/demo Brother. I think the bridge pickup height could be raised on the Vintera to match the brightness of the Classic Tele✌😎☮
The classic series was discontinued quite a while back unless theres some used ones for sale somewhere? They tend to have your typical fender C style neck. So not as slim as a squire classic vibe or modern slim oval. But there never big, you would have to find a nocaster or baja to get a genuinely big neck from fender
I’m thinking of getting the classic vibe version of this but can’t decide if I should get the custom configuration as demoed here or the hh deluxe version. Any thoughts?
I suppose the best thing is if you can play both first and get the one that appeals to you. But if it was me, id prefer this version as im not really a big fan of HH on any fender type.
Well.. I thought they both sounded good and prior to some gain rather different. Liked your tiny uncle Neil effort, I wanted you to keep on going. 😎 The one thing you didn't make clear is the tonal options due to the knob selections that's far from a tele. I've gotta sunburst performer tele same pup configuration that I reckon would be better 70s style 4 knob option. I have an on again off again affair with it, cause I often think it's too dark or just not a useful combination together. Then when I return to it, I don't get what I was thinking. 🙄 However, my Troublemaker tele (MIJ) is always out, is definitely dark, but twin humbuckers work well and with a huge variety of tones (other than traditional tele twang🤔). Not to mention it's such a beautiful build and such a joy to play. I think if I had to pick I'd go the black as I just don't see the light blue as a 70s looking deluxe. Perhaps there was such a colour, to me it looks too modern. Yup, colour is important. 😄😄😄 Cheers Pauly. ✌️
Im in abit of a weird phase with my videos atm to be honest haha. Theres that many guitars to get through i haven't really settled on a format of how in depth. How much playing, how much showing controls etc, even showing the pots etc themselves. Ill figure it out. Thanks for watching as always 🤘
The Vintera wins on the bridge pickup tone, a tie / just different on the middle, but the CV wins for me on the neck pickup tone. I'd probably swop out the bridge pickup for something like a Lollar J-Street T, or Lollar Special T. Would also get the output volumes more closely matched to the wide range PAF neck pickup.
I think the older one sounds thin compared to the newer one, especially when there was gain. I'm thinking about a new one, in black with the maple neck.
Wow, that’s awesome!! A favorite band of mine too. May I please ask.. in that music video (Man or Mouse) is there anyway to know if his guitar is the Mexican or American made one? It’s been my dream to get his exact guitar from his video. Please let me know 🙏
Very hard to tell because the video is dark and only 480p - But I would guess it's likely he is using an original 70s one just because they could. Tracking down one of those older MIM reissues shouldn't be too difficult though
The older one has the fake wide range humbuckers....basically a standard humbucker padded out with loads of wax to fill the gap....the Vintera has far more realistic voicing and materials than the black one...the black one is pure smoke and mirrors...you can't get Cunife magnets now, so Tim Shaw completely revamped the wide range to get something similar, but nothing apart from the originals will sound quite right.
You can buy real CuNiFe WR now from Fender and other makers. They’re €200 and although I own a 2009 Custom I actually like it as it is and it’s awesome looking in sunburst but I couldn’t justify putting a €200 pup in a €500 guitar, so I’d rather sell it and buy a used American original or AVRI.
Great video as usual.. I was wondering if you could do a comparison of the Sterling by Music Man CT-30 Cutlass (HSS) and a Sterling by Music Man AX3S… I’m having a hard time deciding on which one to get.. I am really leading towards the CT-30 Thanks for your consideration Craig
thanks man i appreciate it, I havent got any SBMM in atm. But i have played them both quite abit. The Axis is a very comfy well thought out guitar despite looking.... weird lol. But as a strat guy mainly id go CT30. But SSS.
@@Craig_KCfan definitely prefer the SSS. If something is basically a strat i want to be a strat, SSS. If i want humbuckers on an S-Type. I look for Ibanez etc who offer loads and have better humbuckers usually too.
I have the Vintera in the black with the maple fretboard and I put a Fender cunife wide range humbucker in it after reading comments on a video that said that the pickup that comes in it isn’t a real wide range humbucker yata yata. I personally wasn’t the one who swapped them so it’s hard me for to even tell ya if it’s any better. I’m pretty sure it is but wish I could of heard the before and after back to back.
@@Paul-D Yeah, same here, but in terms of sound, when it comes to HH's, I stick with my LPs. However, am contemplating the Black HH tele ultra luxe for its versatility.
@@leoolivero963 for what its worth, i actually dont like the humbuckers most fenders have. The only exception being the wide range humbuckers. And even there worth double checking as on some models the widerange is just the cover with a normal one underneath.
@@Paul-D So it's not just me ;-) Thanks for the tip. I read Fender's statement with a grain of salt ;-) WRT the Ultra Luxe "...has Ultra Double Tap™pickups offer full, rich humbucking tones - and can be split using the S-1 switch to activate the Double Tap ™ technology, providing hot single-coil sounds for dynamic and versatile Fender tone." I have seen a few review vids and they all use mostly high gain. Hence, am looking forward to trying one out myself to see if I like the sound, but as you say, I doubt that they will match my Gibson burstbuckers or Greco Maxon pickups.
Great video. That's how a comparison should be done.
Both sound great but that blue is just beautiful man. Noice!
It is the looker of the 2 haha.
Great review! And can I say, I really enjoyed the song selection
thanks dude, I always get bit nervous about my old videos still being out there haha. We all keep learning and trying to be better!

The Vintera for the win in both looks and tone.
Monty Relic Wax is terrific!! I use it on every Vintera Pau Ferro I have!! 😀😀😀😀❤❤❤❤

Is the neck thick on the classic series?
I might order one but hoping the neck is slim

I was expecting them to be so close, but the Vintera totally kicks the Classic's a---.

I tried playing back a couple of times but couldn't get it. What did you use on the fingerboard?
I cant remember if it was the montys relic wax or just the crimson restorative. But was one or the other.
What's the song at the end????? Please help me find the name of this song!)

Is the neck a slim c on the black one ?
I would say it was fairly slim. Not quite as slim as a modern squire classic vibe but still nothing like an old tele
What was it you used on the Pau Ferro fretboard ? Monty’s rag wax or ?
It was indeed 🤘 a shit load of it lol
Hi, the neck profile on both is the C Shape, Modern C Shape or the Slim C Shape?
I wouldnt call them modern C as in slightly slimmer like a squier or something. A more usual fuller C proper fender carve
