      Instead of them actually trying to find a way to fix this problem, they try to make all these devices and gadgets and claim they work for profit.

    I hear the ringing no matter what. No amount of noise (or lack thereof) changes it in any way. It also varies wildly in "volume" and tone, and seems to be tied more to my stress levels than anything else. Sometimes it's a tinny high-pitched squeal, sometimes it sounds like one of those hearing-test tones, and sometimes it's barely noticeable and other times it almost drowns out everything briefly.
    And ever hearing test I've ever had demonstrates that I have no hearing loss at all.

    24 yrs on active duty and my tinnitus was so bad by the time I retired that I would get sudden dizzy spells or these flash migraines that would almost make me feel unbalanced but not quite vertigo. In 2022 the VA ran a number of tests on me and eventually issued me the Signia hearing aids. I wore them every single day, even when I was alone at home, and at first I felt as if everything was ‘way too’ loud and that itself annoyed me, but over time I guess my brain adopted and fast forward to today, I can’t go without them. On days I forget to put them on I do notice that my tinnitus isn’t as bad as it was before. So just a simple hearing aide is worth talking to your doctor about if you have severe or even just mild tinnitus that simply annoys you. Thankfully ya’lls tax dollars paid for my hearing aides so a BIG thanks to all tax payers :).

    • @ateachableheart2649

      You're lucky. The VA denied my benefits and said I wasn't losing my hearing but I am and have been. Here we are now a year later and I think I've finally figured out why I passed the hearing test. Turns out I have this thing where I hear things like my alarm clock even after I've shut if off. It's annoying because I keep getting up to shut it off because my ears still "hear" it. I think the same thing hppened to me in that audio booth.

      Hi people. I feel for you. My tinnitus came during the pandemic and I was in extreme stress when I got it. At first it was low and I was wondering what it was. But since anxiety is a disease my brain fixated on that ringing and the rest is history. I struggled for many months fighting the noise.
      My recommendation is to do whatever helps. I didn’t take meds but I probably should have. Talk to your doc.
      If the tinnitus is causing anxiety the anxiety has to be addressed. That’s issue number one. It’s not the tinnitus it’s the reaction to the noise. Imaging being next to a loud fan. After a couple of minutes your brain would tune it out because it doesn’t perceive it as a threat.
      However if your brain thought that fan noise was a problem which is what anxiety does then it would start worrying about that fan.
      There’s two different things I’ve tried.
      One if masking. Finding anything that will help you sleep. For me if I didn’t sleep well it cause more anxiety. Sleep was where my battles were and continue to be. You can try going to insight timer and doing different mediations, or using their white noises or their tinnitus retaining tones with the beeping noises. Those helped me much early on. Or buy a loud fan, water foundation, run a podcast to listen to or listen to music all night. Bottom line is that once you find anything that works you’ll feel so much better and will regain some of your control.
      The second option once you’re sleeping and living with it with masking is trying to lean into it. Listening to it and allowing your brain to see it’s not so dangerous so far. I worked with Dr. Gans and she helped me reminding me tinnitus is a paper tiger. It can’t harm us. It’s our interpretation of the noise that we have to deal with. So if you go to sleep with nothing in silence eventually you may be able to not need masking. I’ve done that before but I’m trying now to work my way back.
      Also try to do things you enjoy. Going out and talking with other people for me helped since my brain would be engaged.

      I'm only two weeks into having tinnitus in my left ear. The first week or so was suicidal inducing, so loud and constant anxiety. I have since noticed some lowering in the volume and it is even forgettable at times. Luckily this occurred as a result of an assault and brain injury by a adolescent psych patient where I work. So it's being covered under workers compensation, my doctor upon learning I have ADHD prescribed me Ritalin, and despite my initial fear of using it I found that it does indeed help with the perception of the loudness. I've also been prescribed gabapentin and thus far it's been able to help lower both the perception and loudness. I'm hopeful that this device is capable of being able to eliminate this issue. Just wanted to say thank you Dr. Cliff for sharing this information. There are so many people out here that are suffering from this debilitating mental torture. I have had this high pitched eeeeeeeeeee for over a year now and you are exactly right it is not in the ears. It is in the brain. I have learned to habituate to this to the best of my ability . Masking sounds and distractions to keep me busy has been the best remedy so far. Winding down and getting a good night's rest and sleep has been the most challenging thing so far. Anyways, so glad to hear of there being a possible cure. This is exciting! Thanks again for sharing. All the best to you and yours.

    I've had tinnitus for many years. People tell me to do things like meditation and relaxation techniques for me stress, but that's when it gets, or seems like the loudest. The only temporary fix I've had is going to the beach every week and hearing the ocean waves which is louder than my tinnitus but doesn't always cancel is out completely.

    I have had tinnitus since I was in college. It started when I attended rock concerts and then into the military where I had no ear protection when firing small arms and being around jet engine noise. I am now 73 years old, but it has been something that I have delt with over these years. For me, the sound is similar to a forest full of crickets. The only thing that has worked for me has been white noise. I tune a radio to and off channel FM and run it in the bedroom as I go to sleep.

    80-90% of individuals naturally habituate to tinnitus without the use of any device costing thousands of dollars. That usually happens within 12-18 months naturally. So when Lenire says that the vast majority of people experience benefit of using this device 12 months later, how many of them would have habituated regardless of the device? How does Lenire measure "improvement"? How much of it is placebo? The Lenire device has been available in Ireland, Germany and other European countries for years now. The amount of improvement was assessed by the tinnitus handicap score…the vast majority of scores did improve (why the high success rate) but the amount of improvement in the scores was minor improvement that is one’s tinnitus was slightly less bothersome. For a 3000 dollar expense I would like to see more not to mention many reported zero improvement with the device culminating in a large capital loss. Have you been vacc*nated w/ any of the cov*d shots by chance? They found a link between the shots & causing tinnutis. For people who already had it before the shots, the shots have made their tinnutis way worse. Doctors are studying the link/cause at Stanford, Harford, mayo clinic etc..they are pretty sure the C shots induce inflammation in the spinal cord, brain, and ears, causing the adverse event in some people. My mom is suffering severely and she never had tonnutis before the shots. Her specialists have told us it was caused by them, and for her to not get any more boosters. The more boosters you get, the worse the tinnutis can get. There's a man who was In his 60s who had the adverse event happen, causing horrible tinmutis, & he couldn't handle the mental trauma from it being so bad, and he unalived himself. I'm spreading the word bc my mom has expressed If hers doesn't get better that she can't handle this much longer. We learned that TMS treatments are helping people greatly reduce their symptoms and even cure It
      That's the next step for my mom. You can research all this yourself. I suggest you do If you have gotten any of the shots. If you havnt, I'm sorry, I know tinnutis can also be caused by hearing loss and it can be genetic. But yeah, don't search on Google, make sure you use bing search engine or a search engine that is not highly Censored.

    My tinnitus came on about twenty years ago when I was put on a beta blocker for tachycardia. I had an operation to improve it but the tablets left me with a ringing, hissing noise that has gradually got louder over the years. I now have some hearing loss too. I hope this new technology will help along with any others that are being developed but I fear they will be very expensive and stop many people from being able to benefit. I do find exercise helps as others have mentioned, and de stressing, and eating a low sugar diet. If I don’t do these things it gets worse. But going to the gym has helped, and I’ve learnt to live with it and accept it which I think you have to do, don’t fight it just try to stay calm. I mentioned this to my doctor and she looked at me blankly and didn’t seem to know about it. Most doctors don’t seem to be that interested in the side effect that drugs can cause you. I’m pretty sure that’s what caused mine, as it only started after I’d been on the tablets for several years. I find paracetamol and any pain killers make it worse, and if I’m not well with a bad cold or virus it gets worse. I’ve read pulsatile tinnitus can be caused by lack of iron, but you probably already know this. Also B12 can help as it’s beneficial to the nervous system. I have tried B12, but didn’t notice an improvement, but I might try it again. Hope you find something that helps.

    In some cases tinnitus occurs because of tension in the neck, throat, jaw, upper back and chest. It’s worth trying to stretch the muscles and see if there is a change in frequency if so you know what the cause is.

    • @tefkah
      @tefkah ปีที่แล้ว

      I can make my tinnitus much louder by tensing my neck, but the frequency does not change that much. do you know if that's any indication that it's bc of tension?

    • @elusive9240
      @elusive9240 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tefkah Well I cant tell for sure and I don’t want to make promises however in some cases it could be muscle tension. Muscle tension can create all sorts of problems like double chin, lazy eyes, joint issues, x/o legs, scoliosis, uneven hip, hammer toes, hollow back, text neck, vision problems and so on. The main concept here is that one muscle group is to far stretched and the other to shortened. If you can make it louder it’s worth investigating further and see if a consistent stretching routine of these areas make a difference, because it could be an indication of the myotatic reflex, which could create tension in that specific area. Its also worth noting that stretching improves blood circulation, which is needed for regeneration purposes.

    Not holding my breath. I get different tones (a very high pitched tone at the moment) in both years, about the last year. Quickly increasing hearing loss is genetic in my dad's family starting when we're about 40. Throw in that I grew up around guns and no one thought about hearing protection 30 years ago, loud music/bass as a teenager, inner ear issues as an adult, I'm not surprised by the outcome. ENT told me to simply get use to it, it comes with hearing loss and there's nothing to be done about it. This self reported clinical trial seems iffy to me, another thing to overcharge for that may or may not work for some people and the cost will probably be high. I've found the best defense against tinnitus is to stay busy. If my mind is really occupied, I don't really notice it. If I slow down or things get quiet, it's deafening.

I had read that their data wasn't all that great. Some patients also reported that their tinnitus got worse from using the Lenire device as well... maybe it was a very small number of patients reporting this?
    What about Dr. Susan Shore's auricle device? Is that something you would consider waiting for and trying? Seems like there's more solid data behind her research and clinical trials, no? Also sounds like her device is going through FDA approval and could be coming out in the near future as well.
    I'm also curious about Xen1101 which is apparently a much-improved version of Retigabine, which was taken off the market due to severe side effects. There seems to be optimism about Xen1101 potentially treating tinnitus for some patients since it targets the same potassium channels in the brain that impact tinnitus, as it does with epilepsy.

    I've had severe tinnitus for 20 or more years and wow, I have tried about 20 different things to help and every single one of them accomplished exactly zero. It is clearly incurable, not treatable and nothing at all works for it. It amazes me that people still pretend this new NEW treatment definitely works. Ridiculous, predatory.

    Dr. Cliff, I am extremely excited to hear this. I have very bad tinnitus and have been very depressed over no treatment for it. I know that some people have tinnitus as a result of natural hearing loss. However, I suffered physical damage from a diving accident do you know how many of the people treated successfully had physical damage? Just curious.

    • @melissaphotog
      @melissaphotog ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m going to chime in here in the hopes of helping you have hope. The physical damage has long since healed so the only reason the tinnitus continues is because the brain has created neural pathways and those pathways can be changed bc of brain plasticity which is what Lanier is doing. Also Look into the biopsychosocial cause and treatment of tinnitus.

    I found in my case, the ringing in the ears is caused by a toxic HVAC system. When I turn on my A/C I am pulling in the air from the two apartments above me. If, I don't turn on the air, the ringing is 75% less. It is horrible, the previous tenants were heavy smokers, the lady above me uses Fragrance plug-ins. It is extremely loud level of ringing in both ears, these techniques do nothing for me. I am being poisoned, by the running of the HVAC system. I asked the neighbor twice, above me to stop using the fragrance. She has not stopped, I can hardly function because the ringing is so loud. When I taped up all the vents, the ringing almost gone. Also, activated charcoal helps I have found.

    In the Uk i recently saw my ENT about my T, (and also a few months ago), had a chat with a 'specialist' and asked if there's anyone close/anything promising in terms of a cure/treatment and on both occasions they flat out said no nothing is close... then you search YT and find things like this device, and also the Susan Shore device which both sound promising. Why don't they mention this stuff? This is their world, they should be up to date with whats happening in the audiology community.

Some people stub their toe at night, and some people have compound fractures. Some people have bleeding gums, and some people have full blown abscesses. @@joeylodes I suffered my condition about a month ago due to an assault at work, as I work with mental health inpatient adolescents. So perhaps that is why my tinnitus was easier to deal with, medical costs and treatment are covered and I'm being taken care of financially. When it first started it was like a damn siren in my ear and caused such anxiety i sincerely considered suicide. Now after a few weeks I have spikes and I find that the anxiety has lessoned. Oddly enough, my physician is very sympathetic, and when I explained that it's so difficult to take my mind off of the ringing, because of my ADHD, he began treating my ADHD with Ritalin. It definitely gave me more focus to distract myself and help with the eventual habituation. He also prescribed a medication called Gabapentin and that's definitely helped to calm my nerves as well. I have prescription for valium but I refuse to take it more than once a day at most, and only when I've tried to sleep with every coping skill I can muster. I'm a deeply religious Catholic and I find that praying helps especially the rosery..I do hope you find peace..

Yes anti-biotics, I wish I knew that before taking them for like a week with like 1000 mg daily dosages. Anyways, hopefully this can trick the brain from letting go of the fantom noise, i.e. what the anti-biotics did of course is kill the hairs in the cochlea especially the once that stimulate high pitch sounds

    I was told that the major reason for tinnitus was loud sounds, like working in construction or going to concerts. It confused me, because I have never been in a loud environment - and at home I prefer silence. I have an anxiety disorder so I like to be able to hear if anything odd is happening in the house. For 25 years I have basically been in my house in total silence. Could this have caused my tinnitus?

      The nerves of the auditory system of the body are so extremely sensitive (as needed to perceive sound and particularly high frequencies thereof) that many things can damage them and cause tinnitus. Infections, cancers, autoimmune diseases, injuries, and many other things can cause tinnitus. It's a certainty you've experienced one or some of these things and that such caused your tinnitus, if you did not get it from exposure to loud noise. Also, some noises are so loud that they can permanently damage parts of the auditory system and cause tinnitus even if only exposed to the noise for mere seconds, and the tinnitus may not show up until weeks after exposure to the noise.
      The causes of tinnitus can be many and it can be difficult to identify and treat such. Sometimes, metabolites from infections circulate in the body and damage the auditory components, resulting in tinnitus. Other times, it can be antibodies produced by your body in response to a large number of things, and those antibodies damage those auditory components and result in tinnitus.
