Awesome video. Just picked up a 2021 e-tron and man I drive the speed limit and still the best I have seen is 2.7 mi/kWh. This is at 55 deg F and basically sea level. And the best charging speed I’ve seen is 127 kW at 39%. So your numbers are shockingly amazing. Hopefully as the weather improves my efficiency will too.
Great video! I am considering this car, but the range has been huge problem in my mind :D. You have proven that you can drive 450km with single charge . That is pretty impressive for this car.
I've had an E-tron for 5 weeks in the UK..Great car I previously had a Q8. Build quality and ride on E-tron is impressive. I've still got a bit of range fever as it seems that the public network in UK is not as good as US. However went on road trip to Arizona this year in petrol car and didn't see many EV charging stations ?? Went on longer trip this week planned charge and all 3 chargers not working!!!
Marcus, thanks for posting up your experience.. I recently traded my wife Tesla model X for the Audi eTron, she is in love with this car, the quality and ride comfort is second to none! I enjoy the raw power of the model X and charging experience when going on road trips, however we did a 750 mile road trip from NY to SC and it was much quicker in the eTron than our old Model X P100D I think they call it long range now anyways our experience thus far has been amazing truly wish Audi had this car out years ago .. before we got the model X .. I still drive a Tesla for my daily driver (model 3) for now hoping to trade it in for the new Mach E .. Tesla post good EPA numbers but real world doing 80-85MPH we never! get close to crazy high posted EPA numbers and in the eTron we get close to and in some case better than the EPA numbers .. anyways congratulations on the new ride we got identical spec .. BTW why did you drive so far to get yours? Is there no Audi dealers around you or closer?
There are Audi dealers, however there were only one or two e-trons on the lot and they weren’t willing to deal at all. I was already mentally prepared to drive out and pick up my Polestar 2 that I recently cancelled so I went out to California where dealers have dozens and are easy to deal with. I love hearing the experiences of others, it’s a great road tripper!
One other thing of you don't know... I know you prefer using maps in Carplay mode, but if you use the car's Navi it actually takes elevation changes into consideration and adjusts your displayed range accordingly. I think this is a very nice, useful feature and it's pretty spot on. Enter a destination some time and watch the range display decrease or increase depending on your destination 😬
Thanks for this. e-tron is underestimated. I own Tesla and e-tron Prestige, but e-tron... because of how quiet, smooth and comfortable it is, is our road tripper. My wife and I just did a 2,700mi round trip from SC to TX with no issues. 1.6hrs charging for every 9hrs of driving. The robust charging curve makes up for the short range, although we average 220-230mi per charge in warm temps. This would not have been possible as recently as June of 2020, but Electrify America in September started a massive campaign to upgrade all of their unreliable hardware which made all the difference in the world. On a side note, we have the 21" wheels which are nice, but I like your wheels and I bet they're more efficient than ours, so I may look into buying a set of those.
I just pulled the trigger on a 2021 E Tron Sportback. I was so nervous the 220-mile range would only be 170ish based on some of my friends' experience with their Teslas. Driving I-5 in Oregon bringing it home we got 2.4 - 2.7 miles per kW driving 75+ with the AC on. At this point, I couldn't be happier!
Actually, the 220-mile range would be more like 120-mile range because you won’t charge to 100% unless you want to sit at the charging station for another 20-30 minutes. 80-90% may be ideal, giving you roughly 190 miles. You will also not wait till you’re down to zero miles and will likely charge around 60-70 miles range left. Not to mention driving conditions and habits.
@@perry4053 That hasn't been my experience so far. I generally can plan my longer trips so I charge with about 30 miles left. The rate of charge does start to taper at 80% but at 90% the car is still charging at 75kW and only tapers to 50kW by the time I hit 100%.
E-tron is a fine machine. Love mine. The charging curve stays at 150 until 80%. Nice to buy a car from a company that makes cars with great fit and finish. I also find that the prediction on mileage is spot on when I drive the Audi.
Marcus - Thank you, so much, for making this vlog. I am in the market for a new vehicle and am interested in EVs. I wondered what it would be like to take a trip in one and you have shown me and others what it could be like. Again, thank you.

Nice video Marcus. Hope you enjoy your ETron. One thing to remember on charging is a car with a bigger range and a taller curve will always charge faster and take less time on a trip. Example if the two vehicles pull in at 8% and want to charge to 150 miles a 300 mile vehicle that can charge at 250kw and taper at 47% will be done and gone before a flatter curve vehicle at 150kw reaches the same range of 150 miles. Just differences. Like the white and tan color combo!!!
Not sold on these EV’s until they hit a minimum of 400 mile range. To many issues with short range mileage. Snow storms, rain storms. Really like to see how someone fares in those conditions
Getting 2.4 to 3.0 kWh per mile isn't too bad. All the gas versions of big SUVs don't get good gas mileage. Why would a big EV get good efficiency like a smaller lighter car? Great video. I appreciate the info.
This is a great and very helpful review. I was initially going to get an e-tron when it was first released, but they had the potential fire issue with the charging cables right in the beginning and put the sales on hold. So, I bought a Tesla Model 3 Long Range (315 miles). Now, two years later, I’m ready to try another EV. I agree with you totally that range is only one factor. I’ve noticed with my Tesla, when I go on long trips, I stop every 2-2.5 hours...that’s at most 165 miles. So, 220 miles is more than enough. And, the speed at which the e-tron charges does make it better than the Tesla in some ways. It was not often that my Tesla would charge at the top rate. It drops off that quickly, even though it preps the battery when you arrive. E-tron is #1 on my list having driven pretty much all of luxury competition...iPace, Taycan...I like both of them, but think the e-tron is the best overall. Tesla and Audi get their batteries from the same place so its all about management. Not that I have the money but if I did I would get the Audi hands down. Its normal, built to much higher standards, and has way more features. The Tesla has a lazy interior with all sorts of gimmicks and its falling apart from the factory. "Oh but the Tesla is faster". Well who cares its not a race car.
Whoa... did I see that correctly? $15 plus bucks for 120 miles of range? At 25 mpg, That's 6 gallons of gas, 2 bucks a gallon here... electric is more expensive than gas?
The EA Chargers are usually $.32/min for the faster chargers. It’s usually by the minute so the faster charging cars are relatively cheaper to charge. Audi gives you 1000 kWh of free charging and then you pay the EA member rate which at $.32/min x 30 min for a 150 kwh station is about 75 kWh for $9.60. At roughly 200 miles of range gained you are paying $0.048/mile or $.96/20 miles if you want to equate it to a 20 mpg gasoline car. It’s even cheaper if you charge at home.
Every EV car manufacturer presumes/predicts/estimates that almost ALL of their EV cars will be charged at home, overnight for probably 95% of the time for short trips! in this use case scenario an EV car will be much more economical to run in the long term, compared to ICE car becasue you get access to cheap electricty at home, especially off-peak whereas ICE ALWAYS has to fill up at a Service Station. If your use case is 90% of time spent long-distance driving then probably EV aint for you.
A car at this level takes premium gas. I live in Texas, which is probably the cheapest gas in the country and it’s at least $3.60 a gallon. I was recently in San Francisco and it’s close to $7 a gallon. Possibly the highest in the country along with New York. Where are you buying premium fuel for $2/gal??? it doesn’t exist in the US.

Its normal, built to much higher standards, and has way more features. The Tesla has a lazy interior with all sorts of gimmicks and its falling apart from the factory. "Oh but the Tesla is faster". Well who cares its not a race car.
lol if you were to do this now EA would either be full or broken...
Whoa... did I see that correctly?
@@DavidCornwell-p3h look at the date... it was 3 years ago, gas was $2.00... sadly not anymore!
:| .. I'd much rather use one pedal driving than fiddle with paddles to engage regeneration. ... Also.. ski-tron 5000?!!?
