    Awesom video, I have just purchased the SB-12 from HAFCO Brizzy and your video is invaluable for helping to set it up. I have run into the same issues that you have. Thanks a lot mate.

    Hi, I bought a Ledacraft saw through a business in Mt Gambier probably 10 to 12 years ago, it looks identical, they are a fabulous saw I have run loads of timber over mine, happy woodworking :P

    Thanks for your excellent video of your table saw build. I’m sure you helped anyone thinking of buying a table saw or about to construct one like yours. I wish that I had found out about the Hafco a couple of months ago when I bought a DeWalt 735XE. I would have liked a saw with the cast iron top but I thought that they were beyond my price level. As it turns out the DeWalt cost about the same as the Hafco. The DeWalt doesn’t have extension tables as it is meant to be portable. It has also only a 10” blade so it misses out over the 12” of the Hafco. However, having said all that, the DeWalt has some good standard features including a good rack and pinion fence track which locks at both sides. It also has a good riving knife which moves with the saw blade and is independent of the blade guard and anti-kickback teeth. I am building a cabinet for it with extension tables but I have to find a way to adjust the saw table height to perfectly match the extension. I’m working on that. Thanks again for your video - I have enjoyed looking at several of them and have subscribed to your channel. Regards from a fellow Ozzie.

    A story for you. I saw this video a couple of yrs ago and checked out the Hare & Forbes website for future reference. Well late last yr I was going to bite the bullet and upgrade from my POS Ryobi TS and did a bit of looking around. My requirements are it had to fit is a single car garage size shed and no 15amp power. I looked at this saw but the overall size was a bit bigger than the next saw up and as timing had it there was a sale on and the next up saw was just a bit more than the normal price for this saw so I picked it up. I found that H&F have a habit of not including all the features of a lesser model on the next one up so mine has a screwed down throat plate, a 25mm Arbor that doesn't take a dado set and it weighs a ton. I put it together on its side and ended up building a gantry out of stud and using a pulley set to get it upright. Anyhow it works a treat. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

    Looking at getting one as the solid surface is a big +. However getting it from the kerb to inside is going to be a real pain as I have a steep crappy concrete driveway.

    Great vid mate! What do you use to keep the unit clean mate in particular the top and fences? Also do you apply anything to keep the fence smoothly sliding?

      @DownUnderWoodWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. I have dust extraction connected to the saw so that helps a lot. i clean the cast iron with WD40 and a scourer whenever it needs it and I've used silicone spray on the fence guide bar.

    Great video, I wish I had of seen this when I bought the SB-12 about a year ago. Some questions for you. How have you found the fence? When you move it and then lock does it maintain it's parallel?. Mine doesn't, so I have to use a square every time, which is frustrating. Keen to hear what you've done to fix that.

    • @DownUnderWoodWorks
      @DownUnderWoodWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that mate. i don't have that problem with mine. i have made a habit of always pushing the fence locking handle hard up against the front rail before locking it down. try that and make sure you keep the front rail free of debris, that can throw it off too.

    Hi I was considering getting a similar saw from another place here in Brissy but after seeing this saw I am now considering it instead. Does your saw have the ability to run a dado stack? and how noisy is it? It looks pretty solid and the 3 hp motor is double what I was looking at. Looking forward to your answer, thanks mate.

    • @DownUnderWoodWorks
      @DownUnderWoodWorks  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Max, I would say yes to the dado stack because with a single blade mounted on the arbor there is 16mm of thread still exposed beyond that. As for the noise level its pretty good actually, possibly because its belt driven. I think most of the noise is the blade spinning through the air. I measured the saw at 88 decibels using an app on my iPhone. Overall I'm very happy with the saw.

    Hi DUWW. I just bough this exact saw and am in the process of assembly now. The manual is abysmal so without your video the job would be so much more difficult so thank you for making it. On question I have is regarding the dust extraction plate. There is absolutely no reference to it whatsoever in the manual and I notice that you left it until last thing to install. My initial thought is to install it before attaching the stand to the table as I presume its supposed to be installed in between the stand and the cabinet. Trouble is the holes don't even come close to matching up so I'm not sure if I'm correct as its just a guesstimate. Have you got any hints as to how and where its supposed to go?

    • @DownUnderWoodWorks
      @DownUnderWoodWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, i don't remember specifically why i did certain things or steps with my saw but what comes to mind with that plate is if you install it first will that block access to tightening up the screws that attach the base to the saw? I know with these mass produced machines that sometimes holes don't line up but we're makers so we make it fit, i would just redrill new holes.

    • @johnbrice2386
      @johnbrice2386 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DownUnderWoodWorks Thanks mate. I actually figured it out. I put the base plate up through the legs in the stand and put the screws in from underneath. Loosened up all the other bolts in the stand and manoeuvred everything into place to line up the holes before tightening up again. Worked fine and looks the goods. Thanks again for your reply.

    Jim M. Thanks for the video, it helped a lot. Just one question. The inner belt guard on my machine will not fit over the motor pulley. The motor pulley is 100mm diameter and the hole in the pulley cover bracket is 85mm. I have tried to take the pulley off, but the key is too tight and I can't get it off. I am thinking the pulley on my motor is the wrong one. What size is yours?.
    Cheers

      Hi Jim its sounds like that might be the case. unfortunately its very difficult for me to get the back of my saw to check. Is it possible to remove the guard or not put it on if its inside?

    Hi mate, what rip capacity would you get out of that saw? I'm looking at one for some cabinets I plan to make so would like a 700mm or so ripping width at least. If not that great have you come up with a solution to rip down wider pieces accurately? Thanks

    • @DownUnderWoodWorks
      @DownUnderWoodWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Geoff, I have about 550mm on the right side and about 600mm on the left. I think the front and rear fence rails can be installed off centre to give more capacity on one side than the other but haven’t tried or done that myself.

  • @motecreative
    @motecreative 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for these detailed videos! I am very close to picking one up second hand and am interested in what you think would be the best way to semi dismantle it to get it through a door. I need to get it through a 700mm opening. I am thinking I will need to take off the Fence, rails and extension leaves for the table. Is this correct? I am guessing it will be fiddly - but do-able? Is that right?

    • @DownUnderWoodWorks
      @DownUnderWoodWorks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may be able to leave the wings on and remove the base then turn it sideways but it will probably be too heavy that way. How you suggested is probably how i would have done it. Dismantling it will give you the opportunity to reassemble and adjust and tune it again.

    • @motecreative

      DownUnderWoodWorks great idea on the base. I went that way and removed the motor as well. With the help of a friend I was able to put it sideways through the door.

    I have a question for you regarding the V-belt on these saws. I have owned one for a few years and Only just got around to putting it together, in and out of hospital for years now, and I noticed the motor hanging plate had a tapped hole in a boss on the plate that looked like it was to put tension on the belt through putting force on the motor. I noticed you didn't do that so the set ups must not have that bolt, I just thought mine was missing so I bought a bolt and installed it. I wasn't happy with the belt tension without it and wondered how yours went with just motor tension and gravity giving the belt tension? It took me a long time to shim and align the motor anyway and the bolt tensioning things is pushing things out a little but it does give the belt better tension.

    • @DownUnderWoodWorks
      @DownUnderWoodWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Shaun, I don’t remember seeing or noticing that threaded hole. I have run my saw for the last 6 years with just gravity as the tensioner without any issue.

    • @hepburn118
      @hepburn118 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DownUnderWoodWorks Right, I will just do that then. My saw just has the hole in the mounting plate that actually hangs on the two shafts and it looked like a belt tensioning bolt would go there inn the boss and hole provided and tension against the motor windings radiating ribs.
      I have worked on many machines over the years where that is exactly what would happen (I'm a fitter/turner) and wondered if you had seen it. It didn't work well when I tried, tensioned very skewed, so I gave up. I had enough of a tough time shimming the motor so the pulley was square to the rest of the machine then the tensioning issues were really annoying me and I haven't even checked to see if the blade is square yet. Based On what I have experienced so far, I'm going to say it going to be miles out.

      @@DownUnderWoodWorks No worries, thanks. Not being anywhere near an expert, I just wanted to double check which way the blade went on (teeth facing towards me etc), how to 'lock' the turning mechanism so the blade could be tightened and exactly what held the blade on other than the obvious nut. My table did not have a blade to start with so nothing to copy. All sorted now though. Thanks again.

    Hi Downunder Woodworker,
    Thank u for this video, I bought the same saw and looked up your review video and set up video before buying. The instructions that come with the saw is pretty crap. But I was able to follow your video to set up the saw.
    But I need a favour the saw blade after set up is not 90 there is a bit of tilt about 2 to 3 mm and I just couldn’t figure out how to get the saw at 90. Do you have some tips on how to get straight. Look forward to hearing from you. Keep up the good work I’m learning a lot from your channel.

    • @DownUnderWoodWorks

      Navin, the blade tilt mechanism has a screw at the end of the travel that you can set for the blade to stop at 90. check that it isn't screwed in or out too far.

    • @DownUnderWoodWorks
      @DownUnderWoodWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@navinjordan It's been so long ago now I can't remember if I had any issues. I think it was more fiddly than problematic. I think its just a case of going back and forth adjusting the height of the rails so that the fence sits just above the table without rubbing along the whole length.
