If Link is 195 centimeters tall, how tall is Sidon by comparison? He must be like 3 meters at least.

A lot of the characters in the picture's height are exaggerated. Link is pretty short in game (and probably canonically). Anyways, apparently Sidon stands at around 6'9! (nice)

Its impressive data, but the height for the Zelda characters seems extremely off. Link (even as a teenager/adult) has always been fairly short compared to other characters (OOT Link being around 5'5 seems pretty accurate according to everything you see in the game and TP/BotW Link not being that much taller)
So either the data is off or everyone from the Zelda series are giants lol.

to be fair, it's entirely possible that everyone in loz Are taller than humans on average. they're hylians after all, which have always been visually similar to elves
I figure that in game having the distinct difference in heights between Link and someone else like Ganondorf makes sense and looks good, but flat on a wall as part of a mural or decoration it probably looked off to see Link look shorter than what people expect.
It's one thing to be accurate and another to be pleasing stylistically. I also thought Pikmin where supposed to be only inches tall, not over 1ft.
@@samwoodley1653 Yeah, I remember reading from an official source that Pikmin and the captains are canonically 1 centimeter tall, not exactly easy to spot on a big mural like this one is it.
I know for a fact that BotW Link is 1.60 meters.

BotW Link is definitely not that tall even the NPCs in the game are taller than him so if he is 6'5" they all must be giants. People in the community have measured his height and they found that he was 5'2" so he's either very short or very tall.
Nintendo should have kept the Pikmin small and hid them about all the other characters! A blue one peaking out of Ganondorf's armor. Another holding onto the hem of Peach's dress for dear life. That sort of thing. It woulda been cute and felt more accurate..
P.S. - There's NO WAY Link and Zelda are over 6 foot! (Though Twilight Princess' Zelda alway felt very tall to me.)
If you consider a few other characters, Kirby stands at around 2/3 of a foot, Pikachu stands at just 1', while Samus Aran stands at over 6'6", which if you compare this to her appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee, is actually taller than Zelda or Peach.
I dunno if basing this off a window decoration is the best idea, since you even pointed out that the Pikmin aren’t to scale, so who’s to say that’s the same with other characters? You may as well have just based it off of the heights in smash bros at that point.

The Tokyo Store banner was always funny to me because all the heights are obviously wrong lol. Quite a humorous and fun video because of that though!
Did you forget Koopa Troopa? I don't remember seeing him in the video. Although he _is_ driving a kart, so that might've made things too difficult to measure.
In a video by The Bread Pirate, he calculates BOTW Link to be 158cm, which is super short! And it makes sense if you compare Link to a lot of other characters and NPCs in the game. I think they scaled up the Zelda characters to look more natural alongside Mario characters, who have very different proportional styles.
A cool thing about Mario's height, is that, in a commercial for Mario Tennis Aces, with Rafael Nadal-- if you use pixel measurements to determine Mario's height based on Rafael's actual real world height... you also get around 155cm! Nintendo has been very consistent with Mario's height recently. I believe they even make him stand at 155-ish units in their game engines!
For BOTW Link, in the game he is 1.58m (5'2") tall

And by comparing the 3D models I found that Zelda is 1.66m (5'5")

@@sandcat2327A gerudo named Deltan in the English version of BOTW states that she is 8 feet tall.Since it's an in-game statement it is canon and doing quick calculations Link stands at a surprising 6'4" height canonically.

Toad is in smash but not as a playable fighter and it was rumored that Toad was meant to be a playable character ever since the days of melee, but that is false so toad is an attack used by peach as of smash ultimate

@@ThomasGameDocs How do you know that Princess Peach and Luigi are 5’6? (According to Wikipedia, Princess Peach was said to be slightly taller than Daisy and Luigi. They all look the same to me, though, and some sources like Sonic News Network would say that Peach is 6’5”, 17 years old (surely you would think she’s be even slightly older) and that like with other female Sonic characters, her weight is secret, yet they alongside Sega themselves wouldn’t mind the male Sonic characters’ weight being mentioned because they think women are the more sensitive gender)

Waluigi, at 1,405,362 feet tall.
There is no way that the Hero of the Wild is 195 cm tall. That must make everyone in BotW's Hyrule a giant since he's on the shorter side of the population's average height.
Olimar and pikmins' official heights as provided by the original Japanese booklet:
Olimar, top of head - 19 mm - 0,75 in
Olimar, top of helmet - 23 mm - 0,91 in
Olimar, top of antenna - 38-40 mm - 1,50-1,57 in
Pikmin, top of head - 13 mm - 0,51 in
Pikmin, base of leaf - 22 mm - 0,87 in
Pikmin, tip of leaf - ~27 mm - ~1,06 in
Due to how the antenna glows in the image, it's hard to determine exactly where the end is. At 38 mm the glow starts fading, suggesting that's the actual top of the "ball" that glows, and 40 mm is the end of the glow, but we can't count glow as being part of one's height? The leaf is also uncertain because it bends into the background and doesn't stand straight up. Pikmins are said to be 3 cm and Olimar to be 4 cm.

I’m thinking the lack of a Z-axis is to blame here. If Ganondorf was closer to the “camera” than Mario was then that’s why he’d appear taller. It’s not like the image you studied was a side by side mugshot of each character. They’re joyfully strolling along the window. If you could imagine seeing the parade from the front I don’t think you’d be seeing everyone in a straight line.
Thomas, in the Hyrule Historia, there's actually a somewhat official height chart made by Nintendo that I think was made during the early 90s. Mostly contains Zelda and a few Mario characters though and there's no unit of measurement. But it's something!
Keep in mind, Bowser and Ganandorf constantly change sizes.
Oh yeah. In Mario 64, Bowser looked about 9 feet tall. In Mario Sunshine, he was probably 40 feet tall! 😳
Pixel measurements are exceptionally difficult and have a pretty big margin of error. When I was trying to measure my character height in Elder Scrolls Online (a max-height Orc), I wasn't able to accurately do so until housing was introduced, and mods allowed me to figure out in-game height accurate to within 1 cm. This allowed me to determine accurately that orcs are 226 to 240 cm in height (or around 7'5" to 7'10.5") -- which is pretty tall, but I'm not sure was actually canon for that race. This led me to the conclusion that in-game scaling might be very accurate with the right tools, but may need to be scaled to fit the lore. If it's possible to do so, you might see if there are modding tools or in-emulator tools that can grant a similar in-game measurement for 3D models to work with. Also, there's a trend to make bad guys (especially bosses) significantly larger than the protagonist to make them easier to track and target on screen, which might skew some results (but may still be interesting to track).

There's _no way_ BotW Link is that tall. Just looking at him in comparison to other NPCs in that game should tell you that. The only people smaller than him are literal children. The lead character designers for him have said in interviews that they purposely made him a bit androgynous so if the player wanted to read him as female, they could (which explains the odd amount of hip his character model has). That androgyny would be lost at 6'5".
Is that legit? If that was truly the case he wouldn't have been shirtless so often or referred to as a male so often.
@@sunshineyrainbows13 Search "breath of the wild link androgynous" and you'll get several articles about it, including a quote from Ayonuma himself.
Edited to add: the debate about Link's gender after that first announcement trailer actually pleased the devs - including Ayonuma - quite a bit because they had purposely made him androgynous, so the debate showed them they had achieved it.
Question is: Is Rosalina the tallest? (At least as far as humanoids go.)

I think there was a height chart in Hyrule Historia showing how tall one of the iterations of Link was along with a few other characters, including Mario.

Yes, it's good that he uses metric as the basis, because the Nintendo developers are from Japan, and Japan is metric. Then also doing the conversion.
But it was jarring when he switched the order. Metric first because Japan is metric made sense, but then when he listed all the heights, it was metric second. Even though he is also a metric user.
If Link or Zelda ever come to our world, they'd be considered "giants" by normal human standards.

Some "methods" to find the heights of Nintendo characters have been used by TH-camr MatPat, from the Game Theorists. He used them to find heights of some characters, specifically looking at Super Smash Bros. Melee as reference.

I expected BotW Link to be right after Mario and was so surprised that he was over 6 feet, which I think is wrong since he's generally quite short on Zelda games, and usually being shorted even than Zelda. The Ganondorf was kind of expected as he's a giant. But of course, awesome video as usual!
No his approx seems quite legit actually cuz a gerudo states she is 8 feet tall and measuring Link next to one of her counterparts, Link is about 1.93 m tall (6'4").
He might be small in his world but what if hylians are just way above human average height ?
Don't assume and expect every game to fit our human averages.

I actually tried finding Link's height on my own a few years ago using Smash Ultimate (I know sizes get changed for that game but it was the best I had) and found BotW Link to actually be around 5'9"/175 cm

5'1" is almost an acceptable height for Mario. Taller than he looks like he ought to be in literally all games and adaptations, but much more reasonable than the alleged 5'10".
Really though, no, this mural can't be used to scale characters against each other. There's still no meaningful context it provides.

Biggoron, Doshin the Giant, Tiki Tong, Dungeon Man (as a chimera), Cursa (Rabbids), Andross (size probably varies), Guhnash (Fossil Fighters), Galaxy-Mode Rosalina.
if counting pokemon species, there'd probably be stuff like Wailord, Eternatus and Eternamax Eternatus. arguably stretched it a bit by adding characters that doesn't really do much like biggoron, have temporary forms (like rosalina), or are arguably non-sentinent. (Guhnash) 🤔

Also, like the Pikmin, I think many of the characters here might not be accurately portrayed in height, even though this is probably the easiest method of figuring out a height for all of them.
I didn’t expect Ganondorf to be the tallest because I didn’t know about the information and I haven’t played ocarina of time since 2019 on an emulator and the original on NES also on an emulator in 2020

I think this video would be been better framed as “How wacky are the heights in this window decoration” rather than trying to extrapolate official heights from it. It’s funny to see how off some heights are, but we shouldn’t take this as official, confirmed canon.
They should've done some sort of "magnifying glass" zoom in image to show the true height/size of Pikmin.

Even with the art you used, Link doesn't look so much taller than Peach, so I don't know how this added up the way it did. I also am not convinced Mario is actually what that "official" height was listed as years ago, possibly based on a marketing term of a statue being life-sized. If you look at Mario in Odyssey, he's waaaay shorter than the New Donkers who appear to be average real-life people. I would argue simply knocking a foot off all these numbers you came up with is highly more believable.
He should just have used ballon world distance, that shows that the new donkers are just extremely tall.
Whenever I check, BotW Link is incredibly short compared to the rest of the NPCs in BotW but the TW Link might be an accurate measure as he seems to be somewhat tall but I haven't played TW in so long anyways.
The result rings back to his early statement that the heights were difficult to determine. Something went wrong in determining those measurements. Maybe using Ganondorf's stated height would have been better.
Exactly my point, Mario doesn't have a fixed height, while Ganondorf seems to have a more canonical height.

But I do appreciate that you do use metric sources, because those are official. It's always sad to see people claim Kirby to be 8 inches when he's "about 20 cm".
But I have two critiques still, aside from the first about switching the order of units:
1. Using Mario has a reference when he varies in height. You should instead use the different characters with official consistent height, and then average out the result.
2. When simply measuring the height of a character walking, doesn't that affect their height? Aren't you shorter in the middle of a step?

No, Sonic is canonically 100 cm which is 3 feet 3.37 inches. I know it's a nitpick, but you're off by a centimetre. His official height is metric, because he's designed in Japan, a metric country with no association to English inches.
Inklings, at least the playable ones, are actually 5 feet exactly or maybe even shorter. Playable Inklings can jump 5 feet in the air, and you can jump over other inklings in the lobby, therefore making them 5 feet or shorter
Either the Zelda characters were exaggerated on that poster, or Hyrule is full of giants because Link is TINY compared to most other characters in BotW.
