    Hi Matt. I find your reviews very handy, always honest and you don't care about the manufacturer! My goal is to run an ultra of 100 km in 9:30 this year to be allowed for the 120 Km of Texel in 2021.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the kind words. I do try to care about the manufactures. I write software and I always wonder about the developers for these watches. For example, I'd love Polar to allow notifications during activities but I'm wondering if it's something hard for developers to do with their operating system or if it's just a bad judgement call by an executive? Either way, I don't like to completely bash any product knowing how much work it takes to bring something to market. On the other hand, I want you guys to know what the best products are in my opinion. And I hope that manufactures will watch and make adjustments if they're making bad judgements like the notification thing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @texelrunner
      @texelrunner 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mlegrand I know what you mean. I believe that development is being held back by the manufacturer. This to bring a 'newer' product to the market after a short period of time. In Software is so much possible.
      I also always hope that the manufacturer will watch and actually do something with it. Keep up the good work!!

    Great review Matt, these reviews are much more useful than just an unboxing. I do feel like HRV is something that I’m missing from my training. I couldn’t possibly learn how to work this I’m still struggling with the Wahoo so please don’t pick this comment 😂👍

    Awesome. Just high quality work. Smooth, excellent cadence and pace, and super clear info. Well done! (Other than listing last annoyance as terrible backlight on wrist raise). Thanks!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, I keep thinking of little annoyances that I wished I would have dropped in here. I'd love the ability to enable/disable notifications during activities. Come on Polar!!!

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mlegrand I do that with every video! "Ugh I forgot to say this, or why didn't I emphasize this further" - no idea why Polar hasn't added that! A lot have said the same. It's strange but I feel like they have rigidity on some of the dumbest things for some reason - like arbitrary items. Thanks!

    Great review! Good to hear some opinions and experience using it.
    My goal for 2021 is to get back to a more active lifestyle (not the fault of 2020, have strayed from the path for far longer unfortunately) - going to upgrade my M600 to a Vantage M at the end of the week. Will be doing a lot more biking, some swimming and hopefully I can run a bit again at some point; and it's all so I could have more stamina again while doing archery.
    Kinda shucks that Polar is so strict with it's sport profiles (no archery 🙄) that I was even checking out Garmin's offers, but there's something about Polar that keeps drawing me towards it!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I love Polar's watches but Garmin makes nice stuff also. I wonder what the Garmin Archery options are. 🤔 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    • @alliktaavo
      @alliktaavo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mlegrand As far as I could find/figure out: there isn't anything official, but there are a few apps on the IQ connect store for archery - no idea how well (or if there even is) any data from there is visible or analysable. And there also should be the ability to set custom names for profiles (which would be nice with Polar as well...kinda hard to distinguish 3 different "Other Indoor/Outdoor" activities 😂).
      A new Android Wear watch from Polar would be perfect for me; there's a lot newer hardware out now and there seems to be a growing interest in developing Wear finally...but this will probably only stay a dream unfortunately. And even if it were to come true at some point, I'd still want more different profiles (or the ability to add custom names at the very least).
      And no problem for the comment; thanks for reading through it! And thanks for a great video...I subscribed and will look through your previous videos tomorrow for more interesting stuff 🙂

Especially the point you made about things you are not so much into, that is very helpful to someone who wants the best new gadget for the activity they love but is on a bit of a budget. I don't need my watch to tell me when to exercise, neither do I want to pay a hundred bucks more for the privilege of being to able to pay with it! That makes no sense.
    Anyway, winning this watch would of course be the best option budget wise so... my goal for 2021: I have quite a few, but if I had to pick and name one here it is: To track my first triathlon, abroad (symbolic, because of what happened in 2020), with my new Polar Vantage V2. Black version, please. And happy new year!

    2021 goal in a word - consistency. Rather than focusing on just the swim... or FTP... or run splits etc etc etc - none of those matter without consistency in training. I need to find balance in work, play, family and training. 2021 = consistency. I wonder if the secret to consistency is hidden in having a coach or someone smarter than me to direct my training. Maybe a video topic in how do you achieve consistency in training?
    Great intro, quite like the music you are using and just your editing has come soooo far. As for watches you may have me convinced on the 945 over 745 but we shall see.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slowly convincing you of the 945 just in time for the 955 to come out! I might try a coach in 2021. I think that or maybe having a race that scares you will help with consistency.

    Goal would be to get +3000m in Cooper test, "one last time" - have realised that I am not getting any younger. Since my teens and competition days the distance has gone steadily down from about 3700m some 15 years ago. A couple of years ago I did 2900m without any specific speed training so with some speed training should be doable.

    I'm 57 and would love to bring my HM down from 94min to 90min but 1st I need to up my weekly km from 65 to 75 and eventually 80s. I use Garmin and been tempted to try Polar V2 but not sure worth the change. Its mainly polar flow vs connect I would like to know more about before I switch out my FR935. I had a fitness test and Garmin VO2 and lactate pace was very close. I wonder how Polar compares?

      That 935 is a fantastic watch. Rumor is that Garmin is going to release a 955 this spring. Could be interesting. Polar is good in different ways. I love their sleep tracking but if I could only choose one watch it'd be the 945 right now.

    Hello Monsieur LeGrand! All the best in New 2021. I should not have watched this video. I have just bought other device from Coros. But as I spent last four years with Polar, I was simply curious.
    I fully agree with you, that the price is slightly too high, but still in my opinion Polar creates really solid stuff. Or maybe I'm just sentimental :)
    Anyway the night mode, which measures the quality of our sleeping and recovery process is pretty intriguing. We underestimate it. Especially when we are young. A little bit later we start to understand the real meaning of recovery time.
    Regarding my plans and targets... Well, I would like to play a little bit with ultra trail distances. But first of all to keep on running! One more year withy this crazy addiction!

      Slawomir, I agree with you completely. I really like the sleep tracking on Polar's newer watches. I am going to talk about the Coros Pace 2 watch in the next week or two. It's an excellent value. And all of the Coros watches seem to have excellent battery life. So far, I'm really impressed. Ultra trail has always been fascinating to me also. If I don't win this watch (lol) do you think it's a viable option? The HRV, sleep and recovery features you mentioned seem to be a lot better than what I have on my Fenix 5. I think the Whoop straps are cool. It's good to have one number metric describing your recovery for the day. I don't think it really works well without the monthly fee. But a lot of these companies are incorporating the same HRV data that is used by the Whoop strap. Polar has lots of more affordable options like their Unite watch. I just don't love that one for triathlon and the raise to wake stuff.

      @@mlegrand Yeah, if it's cancelled I likely will do the "on-my-own", it's just (as you know) not the same, no traffic control, water hand-ups, etc, plus the lack of "flow" with others, etc. Did that at the end of 2019, the first year I said "I'm going to do a full marathon this year", because my training fell off in Q4 (that year I intended to pinnacle at the Dallas Marathon in December, but... life, ya know)... so even though I was totally undertrained, 12/31/19 I hit a local trail by my house, and hammered it out so I could accomplish the goal of "running a marathon" that year, LOL.
      I've never done more than a half (running event) in official/controlled conditions, so really hoping this happens (they've already determined it'll have staged starts and such, barring any pandemic set-backs, I'm thinking it's 50/50 at this point, it's not a huge event like Boston or something where it's impossible to control). I've had the Polar vv2 the week it was released and I have worn it everyday since then.
    I had a Fenix 6, but sold it for a Polar Vantage V2 because the GPS on the Fenix 6 was just rubbish. It was way off, ALL the time. The Polar GPS is spot on, its always just meters difference between it and my wife's Fenix 5. The sleep metrics are fantastic. Miles ahead of the Garmin. The heart tracking is about the same as the Fenix 6, which is good. Don't forget the Fenix 6 is double the price of this watch. I love the Relive feature too, love it! I also like the fact that Vo2max works even for easy runs. The Garmin marks you down big time if you do too many slow runs regardless how low your heart rate is. The polar doesn't have this limitation on estimating vo2max for aerobic runs.
    What I don't like: My #1 annoyance...No Gear Tracking.. Like seriously? this is such an easy thing to implement and many people have been asking for years for this feature. I do not know what the issue with Polar is on this. Battery only lasts like 4-5 days tops before charging. It does charge very fast however. No stride length feature. Like what? Steps is measured but not stride length?
    Some little gotchas not in the marketing blurb:
    The Strava segments feature needs you to be a paying subscriber to Strava.
    The recovery Pro feature doesn't work without a chest strap. It doesnt even work with their Polar OH1+ arm strap either. Annoying.
    Fitspark seems to be very unintelligent. It seems to just rotate round robin style through all the exercise types regardless if you do them or not. It doesn't seem to take into account what you did a few days before.
    It syncs with myfitnesspal, but doesn't sync your weight?
    In summary, if Polar fixed/implemented some of these simple software annoyances, I would be much happier and it would be a definite winner compared to say the Garmin 745 which is a plastic watch and also a little pricier than the Polar.
