I have been involved in crop insurance since 1977 and was President of a crop insurance company for 12 years - and it is always amazing to see how quickly weather events and damage can occur. It was good to see you get moisture - and remain hopeful that your crop will recover. I appreciate your sharing of your experiences - and as others have stated - God Bless!

Did you see any pattern or cycle in weather storms that were demaging or is it totally random? Br

    • @dennisdaggett2199
      @dennisdaggett2199 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It appears that weather patterns may be changing. Crop insurance rates are based on 30 years experience. The events of the past 5 years appear to show a change in weather events and their severity and frequency. You have probably experienced an increase in your insurance rates as this impact crosses lines of insurance. We are in interesting times.

I think there might have been some crossed wires in people's prayers as everyone was praying really hard for rain and what you got was "hard" rain...... i.e. hail! Glad your crops are getting some moisture anyway 😊👍

Thanks for another one of your videos. Interesting with the farm content. Thank you.
First. Thanks for the family vacation video. Looks like all had a great time. Appreciate the way you do things with the kids. Good teacher.
Glad you had a nice vacation. Ya!!!!!
Then farming. Well, sometimes you are at a loss of words. BUT so appreciate your uplifting attitude even after two hailstorms.
We can be thankful for the rain 🌧 moisture you got but the hail is hard on the positives. So sorry for the hail!!! But it appears not total destruction but rather a few paths so to speak. We always had that insurance thing also, darn it don’t and darn if you do. Having some insurance will definitely help.
Those were some huge hail stones-wow.
Thanks to you and Bob for driving us around to look at the crops. From what you said, yes damage to the crop but not as bad as originally thought. Glad about that.
The drone footage and music was great. To me it reflected your Farms and farming in America and the positives in what you do in your life’s.
The Welker family farm operation will continue and prosper in their home in America!!!!!
Sending prayers for more moisture and less hail. God watch over all of you.
You all take care and be safe.
Looking forward to the next video.

God bless our farmers. The transition of the joy of a well earned family vacation to the heartbreak of a hailstorm and taking it all in with a sense of grace. Sadly too many Americans have no clue how fragile our food supply is and how much we depend on famers every minute of every day.to take the risks to put food on our tables. So few comprehend that our wonderful nation is 72 hours away from a total collapse if our food supply chain is interrupted.

I was driving through Amarillo, TX a few years ago. A few miles east I ran into a hail storm, almost golf ball sized. My station wagon ended up looking like a golf ball before I could find an overpass to hide under. Estimate, $2,000 to 2,500 for paintless dent removal. I decided that if the dimples help golf balls to fly through the air that I would just leave the dimples in my car. Did my mileage improve, maybe, I like to think so.

My wife is petrified of adverse weather. In Saskatchewan we don’t get tornadoes anywhere as big or as often as in Texas, but even just a chance of one and she is freaked out. I watched one go through dad’s wheat field just north of the yard when I was a kid back in ‘88. Mind you, I was safely looking through the basement window.

Wow you guys have live in a beautiful country. So different to here in the uk which is beautiful too. Hope the hail didn’t wipe out too much of your crop. Always look forward to your videos, you guys are old school, as in making and repairing you own kit, your a clever family and I wish you all the best with this and future harvests. Love to see how you guys do things over there it’s completely different to how it’s done over here. I’ve often wondered why you all have those steel bins for your grain? We have building as grain stores and load out to trucks with a telehandler. We also put tramlines in when we plant for spraying and fertilising so not to run the crop over. I find it amazing how short your growing window is for what you call canola (oil seed rape or osr over here) it’s being planted now right behind the combine for next years crop yet over there you plant in the spring. Keep up the great work educating people around the world the work farmers do. It’s so important for the public to know where there food comes from and the effort put in. God bless guys 👏🏻

Hail seems to have somewhat of its own ebb and flow it seems. Some years, I get a couple quarters taken out followed by another couple quarters taken out when the next storm rolls through. Throw in a nearby tornado and then the anxiety really takes a hold. And some years, you just get those nice steady soaker rains and you almost forget what hail is. We’ve had a faitly hot summer in Saskatchewan this year so far. Usually, that means no rain but we’ve seem to be getting a lot of storms rolling through because of high humidity. I’ve been lucky and received no hail. Canola might have suffered some from heat during flowering, but the wheat, barley, oats and flax look quite good. I’ve been lucky enough to have cut and baled my hay with no rain in between. I’ve been wanting to do a few headland rounds on my barley and/or oats for greenfeed but I really don’t want rain on it once I cut it down. I think my window to start cutting is tomorrow. The rest of my barley and oats I’ll be combining.

So sad to see that however like you say, hopefully the moisture benefit outweighs the damage from hail.
I recall summer fallowing a 60 acre field just on the foothills of West butte on the other side of the line. After lunch I went back to the field to continue and heard the potential weather report of rain and large hail on the Shelby news.
I got 3 or 4 rounds done and you could see the Hills being blanketed with cloud cover. It was out of normal to see the cloud cover roll down the side of West Butte, you just knew something wasn’t right and fear set in. Only 1/8 mile from the house and as I pulled up to the steps all hell broke loose. Tool stone bruised to my head and back and as I entered the inside porch, that’s when the hail broke through the windows, bounced off the floor, broke the oven glass, the opposing wall, every and anything in its path. The trees were bare, not a leaf on them, it looked like a war zone.
100% on every acre that year-84 I believe. It takes years to determine everything that was lost. Injector lines, yard lights. Tons of fencing staples displaced, lost animals. It was an NBC experience I still dream of from time to time.
Thank God your Family was safe and tgat the crops look not too bad thus far.
Sorry to see that Welker; best of luck.

Question for you guys. In corn and soybeans getting alittle bit of hail (10 to 20% damage) can actually help the yield in the fall by stressing the plant slightly. Does that work with wheat and other pulse crops?

All you need is several more inches of moisture and winter wheat may have a good start . Then there is hope for a big crop without hail and better price is also a hope! Farming is mostly hope.

One way to look at the small hail is that it melts slow and soaks into the ground where as a heavy rain tends to run off before it soaks in.

That hail looks nasty. Could have been worse but still, it is bad enough. Hoping for good yields and great fields. No damage and great moisture content. Thanks for showing us all this.

One thing I enjoy is watching the thunder storms here in ND. Just don't like it when the great white harvester comes with it. My prayers are with you folks.

We need moisture: though preferably not in its solid, hard form. Very glad that the damage appears to be minimal.

God bless the Montana farmers. It’s almost not worth farming anymore. You have the high input costs and now the storm damages along with anything and everything to do with farming has gone up. It’s hard to plan ahead with that one pay check a year with the bad weather including the drought you guys have had. Wow is all I can say.

Looks like great family time on vacation, your kids are just adorable & a blessing!
I've been praying for gentle rain that lasts a day or two for you. We could use some on our crops (Central Indiana) as well as many fields across the country. Farming is not for the faint of heart! Enjoyed the drone footage, your editor does a fantastic job on editing also. Enjoy your family, harvest will be here before we know it. God's blessings on the Welker family.

I could tell by your face this is a tough one, it hurts and we hurt with you all. Look to our God son He is ready and willing in a time of need.
Admire how you kept your cool. Some would have blamed someone for this. But we know we can only thank Him for his mercies. They are new every morning.

I've been in your shoes seeing my crops getting hailed, but all farmers are the eternal optimists. God will provide!!

YT search Red Deer Hailstorm if you want to see how big hail can be in Canada and the damage it can do. A big storm hit Red Deer Alberta last week that had people fearing for their lives
