    Why did they chose channel gasses right behind a bolt, instead of pushing a piston on a bolt carrier?

      Great question! The M4's design using channel gases for the bolt carrier, rather than a direct piston push, is mainly for compactness and weight efficiency. This direct impingement system makes the rifle lighter and more streamlined, beneficial in combat scenarios. It also offers smoother recoil for better accuracy, though it does lead to more fouling in the receiver. Each design has its pros and cons, and the M4's reflects a balance of these factors.
