I just did mine with a new pair of Wahl color pro clippers and it came out pretty good. I didn't go wild though since this was my first try. I used the 6, 5 then finally a 4. Cleaned up around the ears and the back of my neck. I barely trimmed the top until I get more confidence.

Omar Mejbar I have only started looking at clippers in the last 2 hours or something because I realised I needed a trim and Coronavirus is preventing that. But from what I gather, “Pulling the taper lever up brings the top teeth closer, resulting in a closer cut. Pulling the lever back gives a slightly longer cut”. It’s for minute adjustments that a simple guard can’t offer

Ok so I'm glad I didn't drink before this. As far as I can tell he's right it is pretty easy. You don't have to do a shape up or a hard line at the bottom you can fade the zero into the .5 same as anything else. He is definitely right take your time and feel what you're doing more than trying to look.

I agree with James. It most likely won't come out perfect the first time, but you'll get the hang of how your hair grows and areas you might need to blend more or go higher on. Just keep it up and you won't be paying for another haircut ever again.
Heres a tip. Instead of using the hand-held mirror to look at the back, use the larger mirror instead. So you would turn so that your back is facing the large mirror and look at the handheld mirror while cutting the back.
Great job! I cut my own hair too. For the back, I turn my back towards the large mirror, using the hand mirror to view the larger’s reflection(larger view).

Thanks for sharing. Your videos are a great help. We are using them to teach my 14 year old daughter to cut my hair. I'm her dad and I work from home, so how my hair looks doesn't matter too much while she learns. The goal is to have her licensed & experienced cutting hair when she graduates high school. She can cut hair to pay her way through college and can always 'fall back' on cutting hair for money if she needs to later in life. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 😊

I just watched 6 or 7 videos before finding and watching yours. I've been cutting my own hair for years and I do a pretty good job. I wanted to watch a few of other peoples DIY videos to see how they do their own cuts. YOUR video is by the best that I've watched. It is clean and decisive and if I were just starting out it would be extremely helpful. I just wanted to say that...great job.
I like my barber's cut usually, but he can at times be a little uneven in his work. Also I can tell he's really just there to enjoy taking lots of our time talking to customers. So funny! The waiting for a cut was worse than paying which I don't mind.

As an introvert, i feel like a bumbly oaf whenever i try to talk to barbers, not sure why but i always feel super awkward having another person cut my hair. This video is such a life saver! now i can actually do my hair and not NEED hats afterwards. haha
Kaji chuu This is the problem with introverts. Unnecessary nervousness that they do nothing about. If you cant talk, show a picture of what you want. Take a deep breath and relax in the chair. I work in service and I can personally tell you that we don't dislike you just because you might be weird or something, you are our damn customer.
I bought a Norelco cordless and did this for the first time, 4/4/20, during the Covid outbreak. This tip gave me the confidence to try it and it came out fine. Could not believe it. The guy really helped me overcome a natural fear of messing up so I went right ahead and banged away at it. Great tip. And thanks.

I've been cutting my own hair since I was 13 after having 1 too many bad parental "cereal bowl" fade haircuts. I haven't been to a barber in decades. Watch as many videos as you can. Once you figure out the way your hair grows and understand your head shape you should be ok. Good luck to you all!

I have been cutting my own hair since I was 14. You save a lot of money and it is relatively easy. Only, the back of the head is a bit heavy but you get used to it. I can recommend it to everybody.
That makes three of us! It took me an hour to find somewhere where they still had clippers, most everywhere is all sold out! Going to try this next week and the worst it could turn out is I end up bald! Can anybody say Sinead O'Connor? Lol!! Good luck ladies!

I started cutting my own hair after I went in and told the guy to just trim it and give it some shape and he ended up just about cutting it all off and then he had the nerve to look at me and say “ I left it a little long so you could style it” never paying for a hair cut again.

Hahaha. Been there. I had a barber that gave me a mop look. The dude can't taper. He looked at me like he left an amazing haircut. Never went back to him. I found a solid barber and followed him for a few years to different shops, then he got too expensive and far. Now I cut my own hair.
I've been cutting my own hair for years and this guy is spot on. The only difference is I stop at the #3 on the sides/back and I use a custom ordered #12 (1.5in) on the top. I just got sick of wasting money on "professionals" doing an unprofessional job.
Brandon Hall, I am curious to try to cut my own hair, but have hair on top that I don't want shorter than say 2 inches long and on the back and sides about an inch long. I have curly hair. Do the guards on clippers guarantee that you will not cut your hair shorter than desired? Scissor the top? any thoughts?
@@danman5857 Well, I can only speak from personal experience. With that said, I've never had a clipper guard cut shorter than it was supposed to. I'm afraid I'm not much help in regard to the scissors though as I don't really use them aside from the hair around my ears. However, I have seen 2 inch clipper guards available on amazon so maybe that might work out for you. On a side note, I've found that sometimes hair has trouble reaching the clippers with some of the larger guards. If you end up having this issue, I would recommend leading the clippers with a comb directly in front of the guard. That way you comb against the direction of the hair which should lift the hair up and into the clippers as the hair falls back down. Hopefully that makes sense. Best of luck.
Just answer some questions then silently close your eyes. You're there for a haircut not to make friends ... And I'm pretty sure the barber dont care about having a relationship LOL that's why I go to different barbers and back to the same after a couple months so that its like whatever's 😂
After 4 months of no haircuts and watching the videos about 100 times I did it. Better than I thought it would be and I don't have to wear a cap. Trimming around the back and sides is definitely the hard part.

Best tutorial out there. Some others are too ambitious for beginners. I’ve tried to cut my hair maybe three times and it always came out bad. With your steps it looks fine. It’s not a clean barbershop fade by any means. But it looks a lot neater and trim and shaped. With practice I’m sure it’ll get better and better. Thanks!

I started with a 3 way mirror and a clippers and was giving myself either a very short cut or a very bad fade. This video was heaven sent, my cowlicks in the back didn't stand a chance and my fade looks pretty damn good. Many thanks for the tips!
I have been doing this for years, after my barber retired and I could not find another I was satisfied with. By now I have saved thousands of dollars in haircuts...even more so because I also cut my son's hair. Try it guys...you'll get the hang of it.

This is the best tutorial I’ve watched so far. Been watching different ones all week. This one is short with Lots of good tips. The simplest tip you gave is one I have not seen till now. When holding your hand mirror and clippers in separate hands, instead of moving clippers around your head, turn your head to the spot where clippers need to be. 🤯 such a simple tip that sounds obvious, yet the few times I have tried to cut my own hair, never occurred to me. Ha!
Once got my wife to do this with a number 3 all over, once it was done she removed the plastic length setter so she could tidy up the bottom, then she noticed a few longer hairs at the back of my head, so forgetting it was set for shaving your head she attacked the back of my head, I’ll never forget the noise as she cut a square out the back of my head.

Honestly can’t thank you enough. Not long cut my own hair. I used a 4 then a 3 at back and sides then . With the 3 attachment used a comb on the top and took the top away gradually until all the same length . my mum then tidied up the tricky bits round my ears and back of neck. Outstanding tutorial and I think I may do it myself all the time I’m genuinely that chuffed with it 👍👍👍

I bought a Norelco cordless and did this for the first time, 4/4/20, during the Covid outbreak. This tip gave me the confidence to try it and it came out fine. Could not believe it.

I've been cutting my own hair since I was 13 after having 1 too many bad parental "cereal bowl" fade haircuts. I haven't been to a barber in decades. Watch as many videos as you can. Once you figure out the way your hair grows and understand your head shape you should be ok. Good luck to you all!

I have been cutting my own hair since I was 14. You save a lot of money and it is relatively easy. Only, the back of the head is a bit heavy but you get used to it. I can recommend it to everybody.

I started cutting my own hair after I went in and told the guy to just trim it and give it some shape and he ended up just about cutting it all off and then he had the nerve to look at me and say “ I left it a little long so you could style it” never paying for a hair cut again.

Hahaha. Been there. I had a barber that gave me a mop look. The dude can't taper. He looked at me like he left an amazing haircut. Never went back to him. I found a solid barber and followed him for a few years to different shops, then he got too expensive and far. Now I cut my own hair.
This guy is a No:1 trainer barber or Prof. Barber, for first time self hair-cutting like me and videos are elegant with clear instructions!
I've been cutting my own hair for years and this guy is spot on. The only difference is I stop at the #3 on the sides/back and I use a custom ordered #12 (1.5in) on the top. I just got sick of wasting money on "professionals" doing an unprofessional job.

Brandon Hall, I am curious to try to cut my own hair, but have hair on top that I don't want shorter than say 2 inches long and on the back and sides about an inch long. I have curly hair. Do the guards on clippers guarantee that you will not cut your hair shorter than desired? Scissor the top? any thoughts?
@@danman5857 Well, I can only speak from personal experience. With that said, I've never had a clipper guard cut shorter than it was supposed to. I'm afraid I'm not much help in regard to the scissors though as I don't really use them aside from the hair around my ears. However, I have seen 2 inch clipper guards available on amazon so maybe that might work out for you.
On a side note, I've found that sometimes hair has trouble reaching the clippers with some of the larger guards. If you end up having this issue, I would recommend leading the clippers with a comb directly in front of the guard. That way you comb against the direction of the hair which should lift the hair up and into the clippers as the hair falls back down. Hopefully that makes sense. Best of luck.

After 4 months of no haircuts and watching the videos about 100 times I did it. Better than I thought it would be and I don't have to wear a cap. Trimming around the back and sides is definitely the hard part.

Best tutorial out there. Some others are too ambitious for beginners. I’ve tried to cut my hair maybe three times and it always came out bad. With your steps it looks fine. It’s not a clean barbershop fade by any means. But it looks a lot neater and trim and shaped. With practice I’m sure it’ll get better and better. Thanks!

I started with a 3 way mirror and a clippers and was giving myself either a very short cut or a very bad fade. This video was heaven sent, my cowlicks in the back didn't stand a chance and my fade looks pretty damn good. Many thanks for the tips!
I have been doing this for years, after my barber retired and I could not find another I was satisfied with. By now I have saved thousands of dollars in haircuts...even more so because I also cut my son's hair. Try it guys...you'll get the hang of it.

This is the best tutorial I’ve watched so far. Been watching different ones all week. This one is short with Lots of good tips. The simplest tip you gave is one I have not seen till now. When holding your hand mirror and clippers in separate hands, instead of moving clippers around your head, turn your head to the spot where clippers need to be. 🤯 such a simple tip that sounds obvious, yet the few times I have tried to cut my own hair, never occurred to me. Ha!
Once got my wife to do this with a number 3 all over, once it was done she removed the plastic length setter so she could tidy up the bottom, then she noticed a few longer hairs at the back of my head, so forgetting it was set for shaving your head she attacked the back of my head, I’ll never forget the noise as she cut a square out the back of my head.
First laugh out loud today!! I spent $20 for a Remington set. Exactly what a haircut costs. Pity my salon girl!

Honestly can’t thank you enough. Not long cut my own hair. I used a 4 then a 3 at back and sides then . With the 3 attachment used a comb on the top and took the top away gradually until all the same length . my mum then tidied up the tricky bits round my ears and back of neck. Outstanding tutorial and I think I may do it myself all the time I’m genuinely that chuffed with it 👍👍👍
