If you want to cut your own hair go for it, but what is it with these comments? A minute of silence for the restaurants because now people make their own food? Come on, get a grip.
I staretd to cut my own hair in my 20s as no Barber in my town had a clue, I'm now a qualified Barber and can cut my hair to perfection with a low fade better than most barbers can! So give it a go this is a great video and shows how to use all the combs down to zero and it's not too hard to master. I sometimes go to a barber just to try them out but everytime I come home I have to finish it off, I think they tend to rush!
Just gave myself a 2nd haircut using this method and I--NAILED IT! To further assist your success, I would recommend viewing some images of what you're looking for and then just trying to duplicate that look. I'm 63, with an appropriate receding hairline, and this method helped me nearly duplicate a style that's both "old school" and stylish. Choppy. Short. Tapered. Blended. I've already gotten a few compliments. Go figure--all these years I could have/should have been cutting my own hair. I'd agree with most who suggest, and does TFC, TAKE YOUR TIME! The 40-50 minutes will be well worth it, and the 2nd time around it does, indeed, get a bit easier relative to mirror images, cutting lines and, most importantly, when using them scissors to snip the top to desired length.
This is the best beginners' hair cutting tutorial on YT, and I've been through hundreds. He starts with a #4 straight up to blend the top, which anyone can do, and then slowly transitions down to a #1. My barber does the same. It is hard to mess up #2-4 since no skin is visible, just be careful with the smaller guards. Most other tutorials here have you starting from a bald line and working up, or playing with the taper lever 4-5 times during the fade (half way open, 3/4 open, etc.), or something else ridiculous.
@skOsH By all means if you have the experience you can definitely start from the bottom up. What tends to happen is people will take the initial guideline too far up already messing up the cut and its very hard to fix that. Its just easier to work from the top down, IMO.
I've been cutting my husbands hair for 26 years and he's always been happy with an all over number one or zero! He's wanted a fade for a wee while and I didn't have the confidence to do it until I watched your video. I did it yesterday and it looks great! Thank you so much for your help and education, much appreciated
This is really good, I followed his method during the first lockdown and after a few haircuts, I was confident enough to start skin fading from higher up. It takes a while but now its so much easier and I can get my own haircut done in 30-45 mins every 4 weeks
The best self-haircut video I've seen so far! I keep coming back just to help reinforce my memory on how to do this cut as I have similar hair as you! Great job and it's true that it gets a lot easier the more you do it with constant repetition.
I have the exact same type of hair and length. I previously tried with scissors and after 4-5 snips, I thought this was impossible, until I found this video. As a newb, it took me several hours,, however it got the job done. Looks great! No more hair dressers, barbers , or .salons! Thank you!!!
I recently started cutting my own hair, leaving annoying spots unhappy. Did my own felt good about it saved a lot but struggled with the back but got it done. These tips I will use and I thank you my guy! Yes, everyone take your time
Thank you so much. Just cut mine and it looks great. To anyone having problems with their cuts. Remember you can always take more off. So start long on your first go.
I've been cutting my own hair since lockdown, and now it's quite long on top I was nervous to take some clippers to it but got GREAT results with this tutorial. Thank you bro. I will say with Wahl that dropping from a closed 2 to a closed 1 guard is quite a drop in length, so get yourself a 1 and a half guard to fade the lines out if you're using Wahl clippers 👍
I've been cutting my own hair for years, but honestly it didn't look great. I had looked up videos to help before but decided to look again and glad I came across this one. Simply explained, adjustable to varying styles, and enough detail to feel confident trying these tips myself. You can't overestimate a useful video like this. Thanks for sharing!
I used this video and trimmed my friends hair. He said its the greatest haircut he's ever had. Im not bragging but I must say that I agree. It is astonishing. The best tip he gives is to take your time ! It took me about 40 minutes to cut it. Get the tools on the link , They are very high quality. Thanks !!
This is awesome! I thought this was too hard for me to ever do on my own, but this video made it easy. Now I can do most of it even without a mirror. Once you can do it yourself, your standards regarding your own hairstyle/grooming rise. I used to think it was normal to have the back shaped only when I get a haircut every 2 months. But now, I do it myself quite often, with the 'new' look available all the time. The standards have risen.
I’ve watched this tutorial the passed 3 nights rn I’m fresh out the shower after successfully completing this! It came out pretty clean was my first time ever hitting my hair by myself, I wasn’t thinking and accidentally dug into the 4 with a smaller guard and as I began to panic I just figure out how to blend out a line I had created. Over all this tutorial saved me 40 bucks I was about to spend 2morrow. Thank you big dawg.
Idk if you mentioned it at the end, but Wetting your hair first is a HUGE time saver as well. It also prevents a lot of snagging. Great stuff man. I remember watching a similar video when all the Covid stuff started happening. I didn't have money to pay someone and had a pair of clippers/trimmers just sitting in box unopened. Now I save regardless. Way too easy to make a nice cut.
good instructions. his emphasis on taking time is very important, especially when doing the final touches at the end. He emphasized that the direction in the mirror is opposite but keep that in mind when you are aligning the clipper head to match the hairline. on my first trim, i aligned and trimmed at the same time. problem was that as i rotated, it went in the opposite direction so i had to do it over.
This video has saved me hundreds of dollars from the barber during COVID. Ever since I learned this, I haven’t gone to the barber shop for more than 2 years!! Thanks !!
Cut my own hair last night damn I'm good I did a good job. It is therapeutic and cost saving. For those who have young children you save lot's of money with great hair cuts.
I just paid $50.00 for my last haircut. Been there twice before and never paid $50.00 those two times. Prices not posted, stereo blaring, couldn't understand a word the barber said. Might give this a try.
I paid barber over 30 years, after watched this video I don't need to visit Barber anymore, Your way very simple and easy ,now even better than barber after practices few time . very good video ,thank you .
You can do the entire side and back using the #4 only, not using the #3 or #2 or #1- that simplifies it a lot and prevents catastrophe. That's how I cut my hair for the first time 3 months ago, without having watched any video.
Wish I had done this during COVID! I got myself some Wahl Classic clippers, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Being able to keep my hair looking great all the time is a total game changer. Thanks so much for this video!

I just tried it and it looks great! Just some advice: - have someone help you with the back if you can. - you might need to push down the buzzer a little when you are approaching the top of your 4 region. Overall, I am super satisfied with the cut. It is 100% better than any haircut I have paid for. I feel that though it may be hard to learn to cut all types of hair, anyone can learn to cut their own hair decently. Thank you for this amazing tutorial. You just saved me a ton of money!
thanks so much for this man! was really nervous to do it myself for the first time, but it turned out surprisingly really well! anyone hesitating should just do it, this technique is great. cheers again!
Thank you bro!!! I started doing this due to Fn covid. And this has worked out SOOO much better than ANY barber ive ever had! i swear to God! TRUTH! my wife, her mother and all 3 of her sisters were all totally impressed. And these women would have NO problem telln me if it looked bad! Dude... i never really liked having to go get a hair cut EVER! if im honest plus its just another expense. But NOW!? not anymore. AND, might sound stupid, but, its been a self confidence booster too. I never thought i could something like this? Wrong! of course i could thanks to you. So again. Many thanks and God bless.
Great video! Excellent haircut! That's basically the way I cut my own hair. I've been doing it since the late 1970s. I figure I've saved at least $15,000.00 in today's dollars (figuring on a haircut every 3 weeks). I began cutting my own hair because I usually had to trim up a bit after getting a haircut. Finally, I said, "Why am I paying somebody to cut my hair when I have to cut it afterwards anyway." So, I haven't visited a barber since the early 1980s.
Another way I save money is when shaving. I use Dawn dishwashing/hand soap liquid, which is oily enough to give a smooth shave. I use quality shavers, like Gillette Mach 3 or Bic Hybrid 3, and get a month's shaves off a single cartridge without any nicks. No expensive shaving cream or gel for me.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I really appreciate it! I have been on TH-cam for the past hour trying to figure out how to cut my teenage son's hair and this is the best video I have come across. I have taken notes on what you said. I feel confident that I will do a great job based on the great tips you have provided. Thanks again!
thank you so much for this easy guide, i've tried semi-successfully to cut my hair a few times now, didn't realise i had additional add-ons on my clippers and butchered my doo with a poor fade between 16mm and 7mm, then i accidentally went the wrong way and it went 1mm on some parts, so now i'm all 1mm lol. I'm so glad i found my add-ons and this video, i'll be back on the self-haircut horse in about a month and a half, will rewatch this video again then, just wanted to share my story to anyone who'd bother to read it

@@DiscoStu950first time I cut my hair my clippers died every 5 minutes, so I had to give myself a haircut with only scissors like I was in the 1800s or something, it turned out great, I cut my hair for the second time a few days ago and got some new clippers and gave myself an even better haircut
@@Joemama6437 bought myself some clippers and never looked back. Now my haircuts are 8 or 9 out of 10 every time. Practice makes perfect 👍
I have been cutting my own hair for a couple of years and I can almost do the back part without a second mirror! it's kind of fun, plus it's something that will always be useful to you for the rest of your life, you can do your hair however you want and whenever, saving a trip to the barber and a little bit of money as well.

1 minute of silence for all the Broke barbers who keep losin clients to this tutorial. 🤫🤔
Pepito Clavo 1 clavito I learned to cut my hair because of this guy
al perez same
al perez me too actually :)
al perez I’ve been cutting my own for nearly a year. Watching ant the barber, this guy a few others. Don’t always get it perfect but it’s definetly worthy enough to not be ashamed of. Il never use a barber again. They always fucked me up
Pepito Clavo 1 clavito barbers are not going to lose clients because of this. Having your haircut is an experience and for a lot relaxing.
I sometimes go to a barber just to try them out but everytime
I come home I have to finish it off, I think they tend to rush!

Just eat tuna cans.. 😛
Agree totally with your observations! This guy nails it for the ordinary guy
I agree. It was simple to understand and he provided reasons for doing what he did. When I get my clippers today, this video is my guide.
"Hundreds" , you sure didn't want your hair fucked up lol!
@skOsH By all means if you have the experience you can definitely start from the bottom up. What tends to happen is people will take the initial guideline too far up already messing up the cut and its very hard to fix that. Its just easier to work from the top down, IMO.
@N M, good to know, i was wondering if I needed to look at other vids, I really liked this one. Thanks for the tip!!
After living in Florida for almost 5 years, I can't find one good person to cut my hair. So thank you for this video.

Did you cut your hair with this tutorial? How were the results?

Is this still working in 2021 or has this been patched? 🤔
Nice
Its patched I am bald now.

Thank you, just turned 40 and very happy to have cut my hair successfully for the first time!
good instructions. his emphasis on taking time is very important, especially when doing the final touches at the end. He emphasized that the direction in the mirror is opposite but keep that in mind when you are aligning the clipper head to match the hairline. on my first trim, i aligned and trimmed at the same time. problem was that as i rotated, it went in the opposite direction so i had to do it over.
Indeed great instructions
